Would you pay for live coverage now?

Based on the potential the USDGC showed us, I would have easily paid $5.00 - $10.00 for a 3 day pass to watch the USDGC coverage live. I was wondering if anyone else would have paid for it and if so....how much?

$0. The exact same money I pay the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, PGA, Nascar, FIFA, UFC and dozens of other fledgling sports just like ours, some of which I probably don't know exist.

Exactly.
Like or not, watching live is not something i want to pay for. Especially when there's Jomez.
Not being cheap, just not interested in all day coverage.

I would be willing to pay for live coverage.
But, if the provider wants me to pay very much for it, then it would need to become much more polished/better quality than what live coverage looks like right now.

I have paid to watch live disc golf coverage. Disc Golf Planet covered, I believe, the 2012 and 2013 Worlds on a pay-per-view basis. I think they had a deal where if you paid early, you got the whole week for $5 or something, but I'd have paid their $2-3 a day rate if I had to. And the coverage then was nothing compared to what we have now. 240p, maybe 480p if they were in a good spot for signal, lots of lag, but still worth it. With what they're putting out now, it would be a no brainer to pay for it.

Even though all the content providers have patreon accounts and they make some money from them, I still think they're not monetizing their work properly. Jomez and CCDG should be reserving their next day turnaround coverage for their patreon supporters. If you're not paying for it, you shouldn't get the opportunity to watch yesterday's round today. Make folks wait a week or so for free content. Same principle for live.

Saw the title of the thread and instantly thought the same thing. I did it before for less quality. Why the heck would I not do it now.

No, but I have neither the time nor the patience to watch a ~4 hours of tv/computer.
The beauty of Jomez & CCDG is that I can (usually) watch the whole (post-produced) tournament in 4 hours over the course of the week.

As much as I enjoy disc golf, I'm not sure it is entertaining enough to warrant a 4-hour time slot on any network (cable or internet). I agree with JC17393 on the suggestion for Jomez & CCDG. There is a far bigger market (IMO) for post-produced highlight rounds that skip the walking between holes, waiting, pre-shot routines, etc.

If my choices were live coverage or wait a week for post-produced (for non-patreons), I'd wait for a week. The only annoying thing about it would be the spoilers around here. I wish more people would understand that some of us don't have the luxury of being able to watch the coverage the second it comes out. On a typical DGPT event, I'm usually just finishing watching round 1 when people are starting new threads on here congratulating the winners...

First world problem for sure, but still annoying...

Yes, but only because there's so many no-ses.

Above, someone wrote they wouldn't pay to watch FIFA cause it was a minor sport. Um, me neither, because FIFA isn't a sport, it's a governing body. In fact, it's the governing body of the most popular most profitable sport in the world.

DiscFifty, I have to admit, I wasn't sure if you meant walk up live or video live? Video, yes. There's this quaint old fashioned thing called attention span. It was all the vogue before video games and social media. Mine allows me to enjoy such things, and I feel sorry for those born without it. As for walk up live, yes, if it's close. A day walking around in a park like setting, gossiping with other fans and watching play, is great and I'm willing to pay a few bucks.

Even free, I don't think I'd watch week-old footage. That's pretty much a non-starter for me.

I don't mind contributing to Patreon for Jomez/CCDG, though.

I did when Crazy John was annoying everybody with his irreverence. I still would today. I also have more discs than I'll ever throw so buying one less that weekend doesn't hurt me one bit.

I don't see the point in paying/charging to watch an event. I don't pay to watch CBS/NBC/ABC/FOX right now as it is, or any other sports/channels for that matter. People pay to watch others play video games and some of them make mega bank on that, which I'm not certain as I've never done it but I believe you can watch them for free.

I'm more willing to give a donation (and have) or a patreon donation than I am to be forced to watch any coverage.

Careful, there a big difference between a limited attention span and a willingness to prioritize watching video over family time, work stuff, course maintenance, playing, etc.

I can make time to watch a 30-minute recap of R1F9 over lunch at work. But, I can think of at least a dozen things that are a better use of my time than watching tv for 4 hours...

No, I wouldn't pay for live coverage because i don't want to spend the time and am just not a big fan of live coverage.

I would/do pay for a post production because i can watch when i have time and binge an entire tournament in Monday night when i have time. Jomez/CCDG provide a quality product I am willing to contribute to.

I pay now, but want something extra for not being a freeloader. So I enter official drawings, raffles, super chat, etcetera with the major providers.

No, I'm not interested in live coverage. The product is not compelling enough for me to spend my whole afternoon on it. I do contribute to the post-produced coverage and very much enjoy watching the 30-minute segments at my convenience whether that be later today or sometime next month.

I watch live because I love the sport of disc golf. Sometimes the quality could be better but I'm thankful for what we get. To be honest it's no different than taking time out of your day and watching your favorite sporting team play.

Unless you're watching those stations via an antenna, you're paying to watch their broadcasts. If you're paying for cable or satellite, nothing you're watching is free. Is it cheaper to pay X amount for 1000 channels than to pay per broadcast? Of course, but it still isn't free.
