Simon's Q&A in advance of Dynamic Discs Open Coverage (CBSSports Network)

Makes a lot of sense with the financials of the top guys or brands if you will.

Their yearly contract/salary, bonuses for finishes and media coverage, signature disc sales and perhaps per diem or entry fee allocation/reimbursement.

I'm sure that adds up for a few big names, that might not win every tournament, but do have large social media followings and regular coverage on our disc golf media.

Simon understands it's about marketing... primarily the game, and to a lesser extent himself.

I'm not going to say he doesn't work at it, because he does. But he does so in such a natural, spontaneous way, it doesn't seem like work.

I can't imagine Discmania without him, or Eagle, for that matter. Plus they're a ton of fun to watch together.

I can be wrong but I think Simon is an intelligent person, but he doesn't understand any **** more than anybody else. He's talented, entertaining and I'm glad we can witness him in our micro reality.

I like Simon too.

I'm not really a fan of "I don't try super hard because it's not worth trying super hard" as an attitude though. I just think he doesn't want to try super hard. Which is totally fine too

I've always thought of Simon as a Pro on auto-drive. He's good enough to play at the top level, but it seems like he really just enjoys playing disc golf. If the results come then so be it, if not he's still going to have a good time. I used to race bicycles with guys like that...super talented athletes who cared more about the fun of racing than the results.

That interview kind of confirms what I've always thought about Simon, and why I like him so much.

I love Simon and I love Simon content, be it his or something that features him. However, that interview sits very wrong with me. I find it borderline disrespectful towards the accomplishments of those that have a more competitive attitude.

Hmm the music annoyed me, and that never happens. . sounds a broken to slow taperecorder

Hated that, too. Like playing a 45rpm record without the adapter.

I agree that he talks like he's just having fun, but then you listen to him talk about watching the replay and thinking about strategy--the edge is in there. I don't think he will ever lose his fun nature, but I could see him becoming more focused and strategic on course.

Of course he's been doing this a long time. He seems to enjoy himself and spoke about ideas he has for expanding his brand/social media presence.

Not every culture is obsessed with being number one. Given that Simon isn't from the US, which seems like one of the most competitively driven countries, I'd cut him a break.

Have you considered that he's more competitive against himself, than against others?

I feel like your comment is borderline disrespectful towards people who would rather be competitive with themselves.
