I'm done returning discs

The local course near me has a drop box for found discs. The course "elders" deal with all that. Unclaimed discs are sold and the money goes to course maintenance.

If a disc is unmarked...its mine.

If it has contact info i reach out several times...if no response...its mine.

If i get in contact with you, YOU have to come get your disc. If you fail to do so in a month...its mine

This is my modus operandi. I would definitely never drive an hour to return a disc.

Yeah, none of the course I know have drop boxes. I've never seen one in over 40 courses around here.

Saw one of these lock boxes that looked really well built. My buddy got excited and took a couple pictures to share with our local club. Then we noticed the broken lock.

A couple courses around here have a drop box. I usually check them, and if I see a disc with a name and number, I'll fire a text telling the people that they have a disc in the drop box and asking if they would prefer me take it to the local shop. So far, everyone has replied with a yes.

Quite a bummer....not the first drop box that I've heard or seen where they've been broken into.

Real simple over here. I'll text the number on the found disc as soon as I find it:

"found your disc at X course. I'm here for another X minutes. hide it or hold it?"

The impetus is now on the original owner. If they say hide, I'll stash it somewhere and take a pic where it's hiding. If they say hold, the disc will sit in my trunk until they eventually track me down. If they don't reply, I'll keep it or give it away.

I understand the OP's struggle here. I seemingly find and return others' discs way more than I get back my lost discs. However, we gotta keep up the good fight to be decent disc golfers. I've lost some dearly loved discs in my day and if/when someone sent me the above text, I'd be ecstatic to make it as easy as possible for the finder to get it back to me (and always offer a disc or $ for their trouble).

I like the idea of course drop boxes... of course I know there are the unscrupulous that would take advantage.... and others who would use it correctly.

I haven't lost a disc and had anyone call about it, but when it finally happens. I will make sure if I get it back it is at the utmost convenience of the finder. I'm not going to expect or ask them to go out of their way at all. If they offered to or really helped me out, there would be a Whataburger gift card involved when I met them.

I'd hate to see how you treat the people that do you wrong!:p

Found a disc today, texted a photo with picture.

Said the disc is being left with on-site pro-shop.

Received a response in minutes with a thank you.

If there was not a pro-shop, the disc would have been left under one of the courses several garbage cans with a follow-up photo and directions of where the disc was being left.

Easy Peasy...

"Returning" discs is easy if done properly...

We had a funny today. A lost disc was posted, the OP said he found it and it has a phone number on it. "Tell me (the OP) what the number is and I'll (the OP) get it back to you"...

"It was just like the one you posted.... only different."

ive never had a disc returned but when you throw PRE FLIGHT NUMBER gyro dawgs like me you have to expect people to want them in their own bag.

This weekend I got two responses from my "Hey lose a (fill in the blank)" texts. First one asks can you hide it some where? I say sure and go back Monday morning and send him a picture of it in it's hiding place. Texted him Wednesday night, have you gotten it yet? No I'm busy. Disc two, I drive to his local course, not were I found it, and leave it in a mutually acceptable spot. Text him, did you get your disc? No, not yet. I would have gladly held on to them till it convent for both of us.

Why do I put forth this much time and effort and go though this stress and aggravation?

I text once then bag it, give it away, or eventually sell it in a lot of other high speed crap I can't throw......

The days of COVID have taught me a simple axiom.....if it ain't mine, don't touch it.

I pick up discs. Like most, if there is a number, they get a text. I'll stash it somewhere in the course.

No ink, toss it in the bag. Throw it. Gift it.

Not malicious, but not an extensive effort either.
