Discmania splits with Innova

The Exodus is not the FD mold, it is the Eagle-L mold

I agree, I didn't say same, I said similar. I don't throw FDs but if I did that is one of the discs you can actually find that I would consider.

Some of the others may be the exact same though, I can't tell a difference between the Max/Slab/PD3 at all.

Since we're all wildly speculating I'll give my best guess, and some portions I'm not quite sure on.

I think at this point we've beat it into the ground enough…when somebody else produces your discs you're at their mercy for stock. Typically you go this route as a small company in order to avoid the up front costs of molding equipment. The problem now is DM is large enough where the production demands are a hindrance, and although Innova is getting paid to manufacture those discs they're eating up runtime in the factory. That runtime could be used making Innova discs which obviously they make more on.

The knee jerk response would be for them to turn to Latitude and Yikun and just have them pumping out a bunch of new molds, but that doesn't really address the underlying problem. You're still relying on others to provide your inventory. They might have the capacity at this point in time, but I don't think DM wants to get burned like that again.

The cryptic Originals hoodie wasn't just a coincidence. And I think the post a week or so ago clarifying who owns the molds and naming rights seemed a bit odd, especially since at that point the June 21 announcement date had already been mentioned. I don't think DM buying the mold pieces would ever be on the table, but I could see some type of "rental" agreement being arranged. Think of it as a licensing deal for the mold pieces, and DM can run production on the OG molds as they see fit. They get what they want, and in turn pay a buck a disc or something like that to Innova pretty much forever. Innova is happy because it's a consistent revenue stream and at that point they aren't doing any work. They've been on the other side of that when they were paying KC a quarter a disc or whatever he was getting back in the day. They know it adds up over time.

No clue if that would entail them being able to piggy back off of bulk plastic orders or being on their own for plastic blends. Any new molds would be produced through Evolution and Active.

I think the biggest issue with that theory would be Innova allowing those mold pieces out of their own building. But if you're getting a royalty for each disc sold a giant lump of cash could help you change your mind. So they are saying goodbye to Innova, but not completely.

For all any of us know this could've been the plan the entire time. Just like everything else injection molding equipment might be impossible to snag as a consequence of Covid. The perceived idea that Innova wasn't playing ball might really have been an agreed upon date where they would start doing things on their own, they weren't ready, and the production time was given to Infinite instead.

Of course the easy guess is they're done and over with, and we have to come up with a witty name for Trilogy+1. DM has always been about the hype, and there's some weird stuff across all of the communications, so I think it will be something that catches everybody off guard.

You are talking about things like the Firebird wing and the Destroyer wing; no way Innova lets those out of the factory on a licensing deal. Next thing you know, Jussi shows up to get them with a bread truck and history repeats*...

*no one knows what I'm talking about.

Yeah, that's the obvious hangup but possibly DM ponied up the cash for equipment that will sit in the factory so the pieces don't travel anywhere?

A complete breakup just seems fishy given everything.

somewhat related

why did eagles recent "documentary" of "an eagles trail" seem so ****ing weird with the father complex which was eerily similar to pp odd father complex

is this a dg thing or a dg documentary thing or what is going on here

Maybe Innova decided that Discmania should go in with L64 and Yikun?

Maybe Infinite ponied up more dough then Discmania was paying, plus Discmania was actively searching out other partners to make discs (probably cheaper) and has done so unsuccessfully to be honest (sales wise).

All speculation of course, I'm just trying to make some sense of what happened.

Think about this way too, Discmania was and is just a marketing company mostly. They don't make any or sell "that many" discs, yes I know they have a website and warehouse. Compared to Infinite I believe that is who is picking up Innova molds.

Infinite now cuts out the middle man and both Innova and Infinite take up the profit. Infinite is selling Alpacas like crazy, same with Emperors (rebadged DD3/Destroyer?) etc.

We haven't seen an FD or PD yet though.

So just maybe Discmania simply couldn't or wouldn't pony up what Infinite was willing to pay. Speculation again! :D

To dispell some of the speculation:

If Innova does indeed own the mold pieces, there's ZERO chance they are renting them out.
Discmania would have to buy them outright, which is probably even less likely.

Also, if Innova actually owns the molds, they also likely own the specs for the mold, which Discmania may or may not have been privy to. That would make cloning a mold pretty tough. Look how many manufacturers have tried to clone some other rather popular discs and just can't get it right. That's what Discmania would be trying to do.
