The Inevitable 2022 Pros Switching Sponsors Thread

Typically, players changing sponsors will throw out a blurb acknowledging their time with their old sponsor, and maybe even a a quick thank you.

Cat didn't take a dig at Prodigy, but she didn't come out and thank them for their support over the years, either.

I agree people can infer what the want, but I think it's hard not take her wording, and complete omission of her previous sponsor as anything but 'They didn't have my back.'

You can't expect her to come right out and trash them.

I think it is public relations 101 to not mention your old sponsor when announcing your new sponsor. Her job is to bring attention to DGA. It'd be a blunder to mention a rival.

My takeaway from Prodigy's off-season is they decided to go all-in on KJUSA. When two more accomplished players (Dickerson and Cat) asked for the same thing, they said no. Those two then left for better deals.

Prodigy also kept Gannon Buhr, who probably has more potential than anybody out there. It takes him awhile to throw and putt but when he does it looks totally effortless. I think he'll become one of those 1050 guys in the next couple of years.

Dammit, Schusterick was so good. Sucks he got hurt.

I think his stepping away had less to do with his injury and more to do with his child. If you check his instagram you'll see that his child is basically constantly fighting for their life. The DG community has even pitched in to raise funds for medical treatment.

I have seen that. But he was out of elite company before his kid came along. The shoulder impingement wrecked him.

Yeah, but they probably barely have to pay him. He's like 16.

Gannon Buhr is absolutely an elite player in the coming years. He's practically built to whip discs and his form is already very tuned. Training and competing at an elite level through adolescence is going to take performance in this sport to a new level.

A Gannon Buhr that is filled out in the arms and shoulders and has a few years of grizzled high level tournament experience sounds like a *monster*

I dont agree with this at all. Huge blanket generalization. I've seen all kinds of people being into disc golf. I wouldnt draw parallels between personality = hobby with many other activities either.

Being fluent in creating social media content is also a generation/age thing. Kids "youtube" whatever these days. (7th most income from Youtube in 2021 was a 7 year old kid doing toy reviews for example)

Yes, it was an over generalization.
I know that personalities of disc golfers range from shy introverts to outgoing "look at me" types. But generally speaking I feel the majority of disc golfers are quiet types who do not feel comfortable in front of the camera and do not enjoy creating media content about themselves.

Of my 20-25 disc golfing friends I would say the majority are wallflowers.

Who's gonna be the first to strike it rich with a DG .jpeg, I mean NFT?

I heard on the radio that the antonio brown blowup NFT auctioned for $20k (6 etherium). Apparently it was a video shot by a fan. Not sure why it needed to be an "NFT" since it actually exists.

I believe "minting" it as an NFT tokenizes a receipt of ownership in the blockchain. It possesses zero utility.

Alexis Mandujano is joining the Discraft Elite Team for 2022. Her tour series disc will be the Scorch.

Bell won an NT in 2019; kinda waiting for some sort of follow-up to that. It seems like DGA got tired of waiting.

Marwede had 4 out of 5 t5 finishes; he was 5 out of 5 t10. That's cool and all, but he also finished 101 at Worlds and 58th at USDGC. The USDGC finish was after he had been on a tear for two months and people started talking him up as a contender, so pretty disappointing. He goes top 5 at USDGC and maybe I'd buy "marquee MPO name" right now; I'd have to go with "potentially a marquee MPO name if..." for now.

Marwede says he plays better in the woods than on open fields because he doesnt have top tier power.

I agree with your observation, especially about people who have been playing for a while.

I also think (and this is a generalization) that those who got into the sport after it had a big presence on the internet are more likely to be the outgoing type than those who found the sport when there were no easily-accessible videos of it to watch.

DGA is a Cali based company that has there discs manufactured by Discraft?

If I was the sponsor I would demand my pro did ALL the social media..

Hell...even the ppl that worked for me in the warehouse.

You are trying to sell a physical product.....it's a no-brainer and should be written into contracts.

I would def make the pro film a quarterly ITB. Not one at the beginning of the year, that gets released in october.
Hypothetically speaking, I would reject your sponsorship offer and get a better deal somewhere else.

Update on Nikko Locastro in terms of sponsorship: He finally updated his Instagram profile and took Westside off of it.
