2022 USADGC

We (A3) have a handful of club members playing this weekend, so I would like to see them do well. Pulling for Chris Kerns though.

I am thinking about wandering out there with the wife and dog this afternoon to watch and stop up to tournament central and say hello to a few folks. Better get on my honey do list now, huh?

I am rooting for a few folks... Three Toledo area guys, one of whom is a Toledo/SE Michigan guy.

Trevor McBee and Logan Burrow are both Toledo community members. McBee starting off today slow with a bogey on hole 1 just now... Burrow starting off weird with a 2 on 1 and a 7 on 2. Both were +5 yesterday. Above rating for both of them, though I think they're both capable of better on Toboggan - they have the tools.

I could actually say the same about the third guy - Robert Belair. He shot a +1, which was over 30 points above his rating, but I firmly believe he's just a tiny bit of tournament comfort/consistency away from 990+ being simply *his current level.* Last year I thought he might arrive at the 980+ this year, and I hope he can show that skill level for 3 rounds this weekend.

Belair is the #1 guy on the UT Rockets team that I help coach/advise. He lives up near Willow Metropark which is more Detroit area, and I think ru4por would know exactly what I mean when I say that tight layout supports the build of skilled players. Robert, in addition to playing a lot of strong rounds on Willow's long tees can get out and throw nice under-control power shots with a Luna out near 400'.

He just turned 20 I believe, and I think he's a 1020+ capable player, if he wants to be that one day.

I caddied for him Friday, we have been friends since 2005. Good times. Course looks great, glad I got to see the new holes and changes before I play it in a few weeks. Fun card, we had Jonathan Borzick on the card who I see is in 5th right now, his forehand distance and accuracy were really impressive to see up close in person. Easily 430 or so off the tee. Very laid back attitude on the course as well

Sounds like a good time. Give me a shout when you are getting out to play the big course.

Chris is good guy. Too often, the top players in our area show little interest in giving back to the golf community, they benefit from. Chris is one of the exceptions.

I'm kayaking tomorrow morning, but I might stop by the course tomorrow afternoon.

Boy, I would like to find out who is paying for the massive upgrades in this course. I am happy to see work ongoing, to polish this diamond into one of the premier venues in the country, but I am concerned at the possible forgone cost. I fear the MetroPark system is funding the work, on the back of P2P money from their 7 other courses. With the building of retaining walls, water management systems and new tee pads, the expenditure on infrastructure for Toboggan, far exceeds any efforts on the totality of the other courses. I mean, Toboggan is really only available for casual play for about 6 weeks or so. I know the funding is not from clubs....that really leaves DGPT, PDGA or the parks.

i hate when cities put all their eggs in one basket

Nate Heinold took over DGLO last year and if memory serves he/Discraft did a lot of the redesign and new holes. Perhaps that group is still backing renovations for the big pro tournament.

I am pretty confident of whom is making the decisions, the real question is whom is paying.

Interesting, I thought this thread would have some discussion about the step putt controversy

I am not sure I saw any controversy.

I tried posting the PDGA tournament coverage, but I don't seem to be able to figure out how to do so.

my understanding is the majority of the drama was stirred up on facebook, although I'm not sure what page/group that was on (other than the two links I posted above)

Thanks rob. I have not watched the final round yet. I will watch it and come back for controversy talk, lol. Got to stay in my bubble for a few more hours. :p

OOF. The rules need to be altered to make putting violations clear and simple to call when they happen. I understand completely not calling them on the scene in person, so I'm not faulting ANY official. Putting needs to be adjusted so that we aren't dealing with such a struggle on the borderline cases.

1000% agreed. as far as I can tell, the following are both true:
the guy committed two foot faults
his cardmates were right in NOT calling the foot faults, as they did not CLEARLY occur

It was the PDGA facebook account; they posted the video and the comments went nuclear instantly.

But everyone is already saying it, the problem is the rule. It's very close, but there's no clear and convincing evidence to me that this is a stance violation even after slowing it down. I'm also not 100% sure that it's not a stance violation. If you slow down video and can't tell, how are you supposed to call that live? Especially since we are not actually trained on where to be looking and how to tell that live. Basically you have a rule we are totally unprepared to enforce during competition.
