Big Money Skins

It would be so incredible if Cale wound up winning it all this weekend... I think thats gonna be my big rooting interest. LFG Cale!
It makes you wonder what the plan was there. Was everyone supposed to report scores and only Cale's card set it up properly? This one set of results sitting out there is weird.

Since that page is private, please keep us updated. There is 0 info coming from Eagles Crossing at all, total crickets.

So, theoretically about 35 points is expected score for 1050 player?

If they use proper Gold pars, and if the players are playing 1050 golf, then, yeah.

Who knows what pars they'll use when they play the red or white tees? Perhaps they'll use soft pars to pump up excitement. I also haven't figured out how this points system is Skins.

I think the bigger point is that because scoring two-better-than expected is so rare (and three-better-than-expected has never been seen in competition) it will still come down to whoever gets the most one-better-than-expected scores without getting too many one-worse-than expected scores.

Just like normal.

Being that I'm a "I found out Climo won Worlds again six weeks after the event when Disc Golf World News finally showed up in my mailbox" generation of disc golfer, the angst I'm seeing over not having results from a round that presumably still has golfers on the course is kinda entertaining.

I think they gave up on complaining; they hung with it for about an hour but since no one had any information there wasn't much to talk about. I think all the St. Louis/Gateway people who might know something are out there at the course, anyway. Great day for golf; 80 degrees, 13 MPH wind.

...it seems like they have a higher profile now hosting skins matches than they would as simply being a stop on the tour. This seems like a nice sweet-spot between "wanting to be their own tour" and "not wanting to do the work of being their own tour". They're mentioned a lot throughout the year, plenty of advertising for their pay-to-play course, etc. Hosting big money events 2-3 times a year keeps them relevant all year long without the need to even entangle themselves with the DGPT or PDGA.

Agree with all of this, especially the bolded.

And taking it a step further, Eagles Crossing is actually riding a lot of coattails in their marketing. And by "their marketing" I mean sponsoring the GK Pro Skins... not sure I've seen any other marketing for EC?

Funny to see folks in here theorizing about a separate tour, when the actual strategy is to shadow the DGPT and produce a side show non- sanctioned series of matches.

(By which I mean pay GK Pro to produce them.)

((Which GK Pro was already doing, now they just put an Eagles Crossing sticker on it.))

(((And the GK Skins was already heavily dependent on the infrastructure of the DGPT -- The courses, and all the touring pros already hanging around practicing those courses.)))

So peeling back that Russian nesting doll, EC is really just branding content that's closely adjacent to the DGPT. And that's not a criticism; I like the GK Pro Skins videos, and I'm glad they've got a sponsor with deep pockets. But it's logistically a very, very long way from cultivating your own spin-off side tour.

The first 2 rounds aren't. The last 2 rounds are. Although I do think the first 2 rounds more accurately reflect a skins mentality than simple "score in relation to par" scoring does. It encourages big go-for-it shots that might normally win a skin, and doesn't penalize bogeys when your big attempts fail. I believe Saturday afternoon and the Sunday round are pure skins games within the 4somes though.

Oh, any "theorizing" going on here re: a separate tour was me joking around about Davey Mac's "tour" from 20 years ago.

A tour would be something somebody with disc golf connections might want to do. It would be an idea that would try to promote the sport. Philip Samuels doesn't even play disc golf. He doesn't want to promote disc golf and have anything to do with events on other courses. He has a toy in a really expensive disc golf course and he wants recognition for his course. He wants a big event.

How he does that really kinda depends. Will "Big Money Skins" be a repeating franchise that attracts all the big players and brings the recognition he wants to his course? Maybe. It's what he's doing now, anyway.

Yeah, just echoes. I'm sure they'll do better. Of course, that's as low as a bar can be set.

I am not sure which bar is actually lower...
The ADGT or the guy that wanted to try a series down in your neck of the woods (SE USA)...
that guy was pretty was really blasted for thinking he could shpw up to just run big events and make money doing it.

I'll tell you what. I have an offer for all of you.

Tomorrow, we will be running the First Annual DGCR No Money Geezer Skins. The stroke play event, will be held at one of the nation's premier venues....Toboggan. Participants, all DGCR members, are slated to be The Shide, BogeyNoMore, ru4por and Mtrcty5. If you want to paypal me 5 bucks, i will guarantee a personal synopsis of the morning's shenanigans. Given how far outside of the skillset, of the foursome, the course actually plays, it should provide for some very funny, albeit sad, moments. For an extra 5 bucks, we can email you a picture of four worn out old guys, taken after the round, treating ailments....likely with beer.

I figure, this is more info that available for the bigmoney event, will be held at a equal, if not better, venue, easier scoring and you will still NOT be able to see any of the action, nor view live scoring.

I would, but not enough hype to be worthwhile.

Sounds like fun!

I'll give you $5 for any of my plastic you all find there. There's so much there I'm surprised the EPA or Park Dept hasn't fined me yet.

Hint-they won't be where good shots that JUST missed the fairway would be.

Or perhaps, you could team up and play David's team event next year.
