The Inevitable 2023 Pros Switching Sponsors Thread

I'd love to see him as the first Axiom sponsored player in MPO. Doesn't impact the bag at all, necessarily, but it would give them James at the head of one and Simon at the head of another. I do think (this is assuming that MVPs the move, which I believe it is) that his social media will be the key, next step in the company's development. It'll be transformative regardless, but if they give him the keys to the fun visual brand, it's just that much more fuel into the furnace.

If indeed Simon gets connected with MVP, it may involve more than money such as marketing partner/ownership stakes in MVP and/or Maple Hill, and even the BIRDIE game as longer-term security for his family as he settles into living in the U.S. and Massachusetts in particular.

I was thinking the same thing... the next level of his career may mean less playing and more stakes in the company. Something that means less travel and more family time. Course design/tournament organizing/clinics etc.. things that build a longer term plan rather than just playing and selling plastic. I'd wonder how much stake MVP would give up in their company?

Does make me wonder about some of the outlier companies, they have less to lose by offering him the reigns to build a company even if they gave him a high 49% share partnership the odds of him doubling or tripling their popularity would be good. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.

My best guess, as I've said before, is that Simon went for the guaranteed salary.
Again, my best guess is that DM could not or would not give him a guaranteed salary to match his other offer.

Except Simon said Discmania offered him the world, but he wanted a change.

This is my point, stated better.
Simon wants security for his family and better "brand" control.
Something like what PM got, maybe.
Guaranteed money, his own line of discs and more control of his brand.
Like PM, it wasn't initially about the total money, but about building the brand.

so did the chance that Brodie will go to Discmania go up? . . social media is his thing. . but VERY hard to see Brodie and Eagle "klick" in the same way

I don't think I ever have seen any rumors placing Brodie with Discmania. I do have seen some mentioning Buhr/Babcock to Discmania and Simon to MVP. But I've now also read a few people saying they don't think Buhr to Discmania won't go through because Prodigy won't let go of Buhr, which sounds reasonable.

No such thing.

I understand that they haven't done it yet. Might even be a company policy or guidance that funnels everyone into the MVP tent although I've never seen that expressed publicly.

But I'd still like to see it. And I still think that it's a positive multiplier to maximize the social media opportunity if you're making a first order connection to the strongest visual ID in the brand family.

If MVP's making a significant commitment to Simon, then "that doesn't exist" while factual may not give either party the best chance at maximizing their benefit to each other.

He's going to be competitive. Hell, he'd be competitive wherever he lands now that he's healthy. I'm genuinely excited to see whether his physical gifts as a thrower can highlight/unlock the physics underlying the whole Gyro push.

Tournament results and business impact are intertwined. If he's on his game, it's another positive multiplier. But it's not something he or the company can influence by thoughtful strategy.

Not trying to win you over. You've dismissed it out of hand, which is fine. I know that you have a relationship with the company and will be more familiar with the operational philosophy than I am. They haven't done it yet. They may not do it now. Doesn't make it a trash idea.

You could be right. Simon made it sound like Discmania at least matched whatever the offer was, but Simon made the decision to follow his heart… which makes it *sound like* the contract money wasn't the issue/reason/determination.

First time I've ever seen that sentence. Marlette, Mi. is out in thumb country.

Granted, I know very little about the geography of Michigan, but I do spy with my little eye that the place has an airport. Imagine the possibilities:

Son: What is that, hovering over the airport?
Father: What do you think it is, son?
Son: Meth smugglers in a helicopter?
Father: No.
Son: One of MVP's airships, bringing in that radioactive plastic that glows so brightly?
Father: No.
Son: Superman...?
Father: No, son. That is millionaire and disc golf celebrity Simon Lizotte, in his flying car. Because it is so fast, he is bound by law to land at the airport.
Son: OK... But why is his flying car so much faster than other flying cars?
Father: Through the wonders of Gyro-X technology, son.
Son: Wooow...

Well I guess it's my lucky day, all my various forms of expertise are in play. I'm a licensed commercial pilot. (Source: look me up by name here: https://amsrvs.registry.faa.gov/airmeninquiry/Main.aspx)

It's not that kind of airport. It's two sub-4000 asphalt strips and a gas truck full of 100LL for little piston airplanes.

Marlette, MI isn't the middle of nowhere, but you can definitely see it from there.:D

If the Doombird 4's go on sale Monday I'd expect we'll see a formal announcement by Simon and the new sponsor on Tuesday.

100% the new sponsor needs to include a Simon trick shot in their video, totally missing the opportunity if they don't.

So at this point is it ok to ask:

Has Discmania peaked?

Agree. Classy videos from both Simon and Discmania. Simon wanted something new, and he'll have that opportunity now. The exit says a LOT about Discmania and Simon.

In a world full of drama and stupid, I'm glad both exhibited classiness in saying goodbye. Kind of sad knowing that the relationship between the two was more like family, knowing it makes things even more difficult. Regardless, it was a proper sendoff. I can imagine, however, that Simon may do something with them again in the future.

As far as speculation goes, I imagine it's MVP. When he hoisted the MVP trophy in the montage seemed like a nod and a wink to where he will be at, according to my conspiracy theory.

I agree, as far as conspiracy theory's I was watching a YouTube vid and the guy was going through rumours. One of the pics from MVP had 4 discs on top of a red mvp basket, the only mold readable was envy but the colors matched Simon's jersey, dark green and blue rims stacked up in a 4 bar pattern.

Edit timed out.. It was MVP's Happy New Year post. "It will be a big year..." or something like that. The discs were stacked yellow, green and blue (with a red core showing on bottom). Same colour/style as Simons jersey

They're gonna get acquired by L64.
