[MVP] MVP Disc Sports (Part VI)

In Simons honour I'm going to give the "Spin is the comet of putters" thread a bump :D :D :p and I will finally throw my new L2 Servo tomorrow.

Might even pull out my tourney winning proton Anode, Kaiserflippin got my soft proton purple one.. Good discs, great times, awesome rounds. Haven't thrown them for years, I picked my putter and I will die by it.

If Simon really pushes he might be able to putt a streamline putter..... But he's not going to.. He'd have to be dumb and really bummed on gyro and neither of those are going to happen. As a total science experiment this will be a very interesting watch, I'll be interested so see the journey.

What does happen when a dudes never really thrown them? Enter test subject "S" , with no previous experience with the most unique mold on the market and hot off a great season. How will he adapt? Will he also suddenly go oops too far? :D you know like.. Damn 100' past!!

I threw a PD, FD (Hawkeye) and Hex today, in honor of Simon plus they're always in my bag.

The Spin is gross, no way he'll putt with them.

im sure he will have his own gyro putter made

Judging by the length of the censored part, it seems like they are making: MVP's first gyro X, 12 speed driver

If it's Simon's first mold, that's the only way I can think of it as a triple first.

So the universe came together for me yesterday, talked to a friend who called while he was in a PIAS (that I didn't know was up here).. Anyhow he snagged me a circuit challenge rhythm 171g at the same time I was bidding on an L2 171 both domey. So I've backed up my favourite.

Upon reflection erknjerk might be right about replacing my lighter teslas with a heavy rhythm, wind will be a factor.

He might have been throwing the Beam in that video.

If he stays round finger I'm pro team Ion...I tried so hard to like the Anode years ago but they just weren't for me.

In the long run I realized I'm square fingered like a normal person:) My pinky would get stuck in the curve upon release sometimes, but more importantly I disliked FH with it. I felt like I'd unintentionally alter the release angle and encourage OAT more often than with traditional inner rims FH.

In Simon's honor, I will be substituting a few of my normal discs with some gyro stuff during my morning round tomorrow.

I will be removing my Hatchet/Escape/Felon trio and substituting in a Insanity/Tesla/Fireball combo in their place.

I will be playing a familiar course and I'm guessing the substitution is neither going to help or hurt my score. Also, I've thrown and bagged the Insanity and Fireball but have never tried the Tesla so that should be fun.

Back in the summer it was the Virus that booted the Hatchet out of my bag, and a month later out went the Heat.

Saw the interview with Simon on the Nick and Matt show last night. It was a solid watch. Here's a few key points
-he can't discuss the contract
-he did say it would have had to be substantial to get him to leave DM
-Jussi is still a friend and it had nothing to do with his decision
-he likened the switch to the honeymoon phase of a relationship, he's not worried about the new plastic he's got 4 weeks to figure it out. He's solid on everything except a distance driver slot. He thinks his bag will likely change.
-he still has not played a round with his new bag. Crappy weather
-DM owns a portion of his old logo which he doesn't want, he wants to rebrand and start fresh
-he is looking forward to proving/disproving gyro advantages

They had an ad on there for trydiscs.com it's comparison software with a nice search for finding discs like moving a bag from DM to MVP. Simon was going to check it out and wished he knew sooner.

Anyone else notice the DM liquidation going on in the BST pages? Looks like many of em have dropped 25% in value already.

I took out my servo and got a round in with it and my heavy spin... could have used something more middle of the road. Tried the Envy/Crave for a glow round later same problem, well a lot of first available trees got in my way too :D

Simon was very emotional throughout that excellent interview.

It was most excellent indeed! Just a real dude. He kept saying he's not worried about new discs .. But I get the impression he is, who wouldn't be?... I think he's portraying confidence more for himself than anyone else. He knows he will figure it out and he will, he's top level and I don't think he really cares about plastic. One brand is as good as the next was what I got out of it, it didn't sound like he had much of a chance to throw anything prior to signing. It was the new opportunities that was the motivator not the awesomeness of gyro. He also said hes going to do whatever "they" want :D .. He's a professional through and through.

Also sounded like if someone else had approached with a similar offer it could have happened, timing is key. I guess we owe Steve Dodge a thankyou card :)

I'm not huge on watching a lot of Discgolf podcasts but it held my attention solid for the first hour and a half. Then I had to flip burgers :D. Really excited for his media presence with my brand. I've watched him on and off with his more amazing videos, but I love watching someone throw "my discs" way better than me. It will be great to see him do some "new" release testing on video, I'm looking forward to that.

I'm just looking forward to some monthly MVP video content again.

I didn't realize how much of a 'feels' guy Simon is. Very clear in the last few videos he's put out. If he's also as 'feely' a guy with discs, he is going to struggle for a bit to figure them out. The danger is getting frustrated, and at a low point, getting nostalgic and reminiscing about should-woulda-coulda… which could put him in a deep rut. Of course that's worst case, and at his level, any problems he has will be mental, not physical.

Yeah I'm kinda curious about the bag transition as well. I know very little about his DM bag and I'm a little concerned about his C2 and longshot putting. IME MVP doesn't float quite the same in the understable department. The Spin is great but it doesn't grab enough air up short, the glitch grabs air but doesn't have the same shaping ability, the anode is straight to a fade. I think he has the best 3 options for him if neutral is his thing.... But I think the putter and DD will be his first order of business in the custom disc line. Some kind of hybrid of those three with a feel he can get behind. (I'm basing this all off someone saying P1X somewhere :) )

Maybe there'll be fission Spins or heavy glitches coming, maybe? Haha.

Who am I, but I doubt switching discs will be a huge issue. I've *never* thrown a Prodigy disc before (hater) but I bet it wouldn't take me too long to get a feel for a Prodigy-only bag with my career/livelihood on the line. He has the ability to throw 24/7 more or less so now that the announcement is out in the open he can bring a stack of any mold wherever he likes. Hell I bet people would happily help him fetch all of the fieldwork shots for a day unpaid lol

If you're an amateur car guy and all you've raced with is your hooked up GTI, sure it might be a big difference switching to a Mustang or S13. Give Ken Block (RIP!) an afternoon with any race capable vehicle on the planet and he'll be able to drive it well.

Simon has always been more about having fun on the course and putting on a show for the fans and less concerned about winning. While I doubt he'll struggle figuring out his new bag, he's probably getting guaranteed money so even if he isn't scoring well I don't think it's going to bother him much.

Not a Glitch guy myself but looking forward to a Glitch only round in his channel at one of those short courses he always seems to make videos at.

This has been the Proxy for me. As long as I give it good rotation, the only variable is me picking the apex: it's going to hold the arc. The Eclipse will fight out after 50 or so, and I'm wondering if that might be Simon's happy medium between the Neutron Proxy and Envy in the first video.
