[Innova] The mythical Innova ROC

A DX Ontario Cobra may be just what you're looking for.
I've found them to be a little shallow, but you may be right. Any other Frankenstein molds from Discmania or millennium that use Cobra mold parts that would be deeper?

Also are Ontario cobras the ones you would find on the shelves these days?

Anyone notice that the newer embossed DX Rancho Rocs don't have much fade at all? I have a decent stash of older KC/DX. They have noticeably more fade. I have a few embossed DX Rocs with a lot of dome & a few with only a small dome (I prefer these). Doesn't matter how much dome, they're all similar in flight. I only bought more DX because it's winter. I hope the newer KCs aren't like this come spring.

Shoot I guess I can't really cover my ears to the suggestions of the vroc at this point... Although what I'm really looking for is something with a little more lateral movement, with a nice flip up but also reliable, mellow forward fade.

Mcpro Roc3. You may not want to pay premium, but the flight you want is hard to find in any other roc. They start pretty strait stable and lose HSS quicker, drastically quicker in fact, then my DX rancho. At 7/10 I started really getting turn when thrown flat, and it's starting to hyzerflip to a slow mellow turnover. Still "stables up" but doesn't really fade.

In your experience, have you found the DX R3s to lose stability at a similar or faster rate?

Haven't thrown much of the roc3 in DX so my basis is pretty much off regular rocs I'm DX and the mcpro/glow plastic for Roc3. All I know is that where my 6/10 DX roc is almost dead strait with very little wiggle, the 7/10 McPro has a lot more turn and very little fade.

I quite like DX Roc3s. I am new enough to disc golf that the Roc3 has always been a thing to me, so shamefully, I have never thrown a Dx Roc. I think the Dx Roc3s hold their stability pretty well (better than I initially expected when I first bought one). I wanted a really understable Roc3 to replace my Tursas, but even the first one I bought is not there yet. I don't throw mids too much on my home course though, so that certainly has extended the life a bit.

FYI - I tried tossing a fresh R3 and a probably 6.5/10 DX Rancho in the dryer for an hour. My hypothesis was that if I could artificially knock a significant amount of stability of either of these, I would be satisfied in my quest for a roc that beats into the magic sweet spot quicker.

They came out somewhat scuffed, and it would seem that the R3 in particular had some areas around the rim that had been bonked the requisite amount to bend the PLH down slightly, which is what I was looking for.

Anyway, I took them out to the course and...
no apparent change in flight path. Straight to fade, like a slower, brand new Z buzz essentially. Not anywhere close to the flip up to forward fade I wanted. :wall:

I picked up a 171 gram rancho on a whim this weekend, which if I decide to go down the path of a cycle will be a welcome addition. I may also have to try a DX VRoc sometime as it sounds like a pretty legit mold. For now, however, I think I'll skip the rocs and roll with comets plus an overstable bookend.

You may want to throw in a Roc to throw every now and then to go between your Comets and whatever overstable mid you choose, especially since you already have some. But nothing wrong with having Comets be you primary mid, it seems to work for MJ.

Sorry if I missed it, but has anyone ordered any of the 09 usdgc rocs off dgustore? Do they have a nice shape to them?

I got a spirit and a Doss. They really didnt feel like a disc that has been sitting around for almost a decade. The feel that old champ discs get after a few years of sitting wasnt present with these, no oily residue, no chalky residue. They kinda felt like they were a recent run but I also dont have actual 09 rocs to compare them to. Both had more dome then I would have liked and I havent got to throw them yet because its Wisconsin. Both they will just sit on my roc shelf as back ups. For the price and how old they are you really cant go wrong an was kinda shocked that they didnt sell out right away. Im happy with my purchase but idk if they will get thrown or not.

One more question. How are the current dx rocs? I am at the point where I think I need to get a few more finally.

I was out at GGGT checking them out just after Christmas. The DX ones weren't anything great. Some of the rims were really plussey. The bottom stamped ones they had were awesome. I'm still kicking myself for not picking up one or two more.

I have a Champion Rancho Roc that I never throw because it's stupidly overstable. It feels like I'd have to be throwing my mids 400 feet to use this disc correctly. Got a new Star San Marino Roc though, and that disc is more my speed. It's very straight for my arm speed, and it holds a lot of different lines instead of just being a hard fade left every time.

But the new Star San Marino discs they're selling can't possibly be the same worn-out mold that Innova used way back in the day, right? Am I right in thinking that it's basically just a new Roc mold they made to imitate the old Roc mold they had back when they were based out of San Marino? Sorry if this is answered earlier in the thread, but I can't read through 142 pages of Roc history.

I have only thrown a few of them, but I felt like they were brick KC Pros. More less-glidey Gator than Roc. Once you knock some of the initial stability out of them, they get better. I'm personally more of an Ontario fan when it comes to the premium blends (I know KC is premium plastic, but I still think of it more as baseline).

I don't work for Innova so this is speculation, but if they were worn out, I imagine they recut the Sanny (and Ontario) molds for the recent runs. If they recut the Beast mold to its original specs, I'm sure they have specs for all their molds so they can be easily replaced.
