This post is not definately NOT intended to be super serious or anything.

For some reason, when someone refers to disc golf as "frolf", it bugs me. Disc golf is ok, frisbee golf is ok, frolf makes me want to punch things. Dont know the source of this or why I feel this way but I do. Anyone else have thoughts on the topic?

Imagine if water polo was called waolo or street hockey was stockey. "Frolf" sounds just as silly to me.

a topic we can 100% agree on! lol

It drives me nuts. Even frisbee golf bugs me now. Its been along time since its been refered to as that, and we arent playing with frisbees. I have a golf bag with my disc 'clubs' in it with different discs for different circumstances. Not just a damn bag full of frisbees.

the actual 'frolf' term is the worst though.

Frisbee golf doesnt bother me, but it is misleading to those unfamiliar with the sport.

If I throw a frisbee hard and it hits you, You might turn to me and laugh.

If I throw my driver at you hard an it hits you, you might turn to me and say "I am bleeding severely and I need stitches"

I snapped a pic the other night of a driver embedded into the side of a tree lol

Someone should start a list of terms that should never be used again on this website.

FROLF

Male Prostitutes

I'm imagining a dyed disc with a basket on it with one of those old school directional signs with arrows pointing all different directions

<- Male prostitutes .5 mi
--> Frolf .25 mi
^ Stoners with crack .98 mi

etc

It doesn't offend me but it does tell me that whomever is saying it has a limited knowledge of disc golf or that they're trying to be 'hip'. I don't like using the term "frisbee" but most people don't know what you're doing unless you tell them it's frisbee golf. Frisbees to me are toys used to play catch.

I've always been annoyed by the term, except on that episode of The Office, the greatest show ever, when Andy Bernard said: "I started the main frisbee golf club at Cornell. I live to frolf!" That was priceless. And probably the highest-profile pop culture reference to the sport to date.

On a side note, if it makes you feel better about our sport's kid-brother relationship with the old ball & club game, just start calling it "ballf." I forget where I first saw that -- maybe it was here on DGCR -- but hey, I like the sound of it.

talking about what a sport should be referred to, try talking about "extreme in-line skating"...ahha

first theres "rollerblading" which was because the company "rollerblade" invented the term (just like frisbee)

then people starting saying "inline skating" but you had to distinguish between the guys with tights at the recreational parks, the dudes playing hockey, and the guys doing "freestyle"..haha which came from every other sport in the world.

so then the guys skating half pipes and street called it "aggressive inline skating" which was retarded and after that they just call it "rolling" now which is way too cool for school...haha

i spent probably 10 years grinding rails and making my own skate videos and everytime someone asked me what I did for fun I couldnt explain a goddamn thing...haha

I'd like to add gay orgies and blowjobs to that list of terms that shouldn't be used on this website.

I agree.

Don't ask don't tell.

Don't shed light on what goes on in the underground world of FROLF.

I wish normal people had never discovered this game.

I don't like it but it doesn't really bother me. Frisbee golf does not bother me at all because when I began playing that was what we played with,an actual frisbee. I didn't even hear the term Disc golf until about 9 years ago which was also the 1st time I ever saw a basket. Real frisbees and objects back in the day. People also have some idea what frisbee golf might be but not Disc.

I do not call it frolf. It's just a word not in my vocabulary. However some of my friends do call it frolf. Doesn't bother me the slightest though. As long as were all talking about the same game.

there was a Seinfeld reference in once in 'The Summer of George' - here's the script http://www.seinology.com/scripts/script-156.shtml

its usually the people that dont know what DG is that call it frolf, and for that i cant get mad. Sometimes if you say Disc golf to someone and they have no clue - you've got to say "Frisbee Golf" and they sort of get it. but anyone that's has a legit interest for at least a day picks up Disc Golf right away.

tho all of my friends call it hippygolf cause it rolls off the tongue easier

can we add "drug testing" to the list?

I like Hippygolf. Frolf just sounds stupid. To me Frisbee is to Flying disc what Kleenex is to facial tissue. I interchange disc and frisbee all the time and I'm not going to stop so there. :D
