[Vibram] Vibram Disc Golf Thread

Hey Steve, is it possible to make soft chunk discs ?

In theory, yes. We are holding off on making any more X-Link Soft until the Fall though. If you wanted to place a custom order, we could make it out of X-Link Soft and you could tell us what colors to make the chunks out of.

Just got to throw a round with the proto Trek. My thoughts so far:

Suuuuuper straight for 95% of the flight with a nice, relatively small fade at the end.
The grip is really good. I wasn't sure how X-Link material would feel coming out of the hand on a full rip, but I gotta say I'm a believer.
Hit a hardwood at full speed. No evidence on the disc. Plus it didn't shoot off in another direction, just kind of dropped and landed 5' from the tree.

It seems promising, so I'm keeping it in the bag to get more familiar with the thing.

Keep in mind I don't have the biggest gun in the world. I'm still cleaning up my form (close to no OAT left), and the 175 is a little heavier than I'm used to in drivers. I'm sure it will be a little understable for better players, but for me it serves its purpose. I'll most likely pick up lighter one when it goes into production.

Thanks again, Steve.

Thanks, your review sounds like we hit the mark we were aiming for and your arm sounds comparable to mine. I've got a couple of the Treks in my bag as my goto driver and I use the Ascent for headwind or right to left shots.

Steve, if it makes any difference on being able to be a tester, I haven't thrown any Vibram yet. I'd love to be able to, though!

Just so everyone knows, we are full up on tester spots. Any future testers will be given away at Vibram Demos. One of the door prizes at each of these events will be a Vibram Tester spot (the other door prize is a proto Trek.)

......sweet i have been only innova for 5 years now......i just got to figure out there different plastics.....how do they compare to the innova.....? do they have a DX...pro...star....????

All of Vibram's disc materials are cross-linked (best memory), vulcanized (best resistance to extreme heat and cold), rubber based (best grip/durability combo) X-Link. We are confident that we've found the best combination of grip and durability and we'll make sure to stay there.

X-Link Soft - crazy floppy and crazy grippy
X-Link - comparable in durometer to Pro or Elite X (but tons more durable)
X-Link Firm - nice and hard, beats in to a nice grip

Bouncy

Hit a hardwood at full speed. No evidence on the disc. Plus it didn't shoot off in another direction, just kind of dropped and landed 5' from the tree.

My experience with the Ascent at full speed was a lot different.. "Pinball" was the word that came to mind, but it manged to bounce closer so it wasn't a direct hit, but it came off at near the same speed as it hit. my guess was it went between 50 and 75 from the tree.. now if I could get my "banks" right it would be like shooting pool. But as Raptor pointed out no damage to the disc, all the damage that has occurred has been from hitting the ground and "gripping"

I really love that X-Link just drops dead. Sure, if you just skim the side of a tree it's going to bounce around but because it's softer like FLX or R-Pro (No, it's certainly not the same as those) I find that I hit a tree and the disc drops so I love that we're starting to see drivers. I can't wait for the Ibex. I'd love a Ridge or VP that would glide a little more.

Steve, thanks so much for taking my grow the sport idea and turning it into FREE PLASTIC!!

Doesn't get much better than that! Love the feel and will be the envy of tomorrow's Ript bag tag round at Century Park around 10:30 if anyone is interested...

I thought I read somewhere that because it is rubber not plastic these can re-form-- due to postman negligence may be required of my brand new Trek-- but this thread is up to almost 150 pages, and I gave up after two dozen.

Please inform if so and by what method, or if anyone else could contribute?

that may work, but Steve had told me to put it top side down on a flat surface and put some weight on it (mare sure that it covers the area of the rim). A large book worked the best for me when I had a warped one.

you probably have much newer information that me then, this was something he told me like a year ago and it took a few days to get it back to flat, this sounds like a few minutes.

You can pretty much do anything (or nothing) to it and it will go back to shape. We discovered the impressive memory of the disc when Bob Graham left a warped Summit on his table and the next morning it was "healed".

The microwave just speeds up the process.

Note: I now avoid putting heavy books on them because I accidentally concaved the top of one that way.

Well Steve, its official.
July 9th we will be having what will probably be the first PDGA sanctioned 150 class tournament in the U.S.
I have pretty much all the discs I need already, except a good 150 class putter.

I really really need a 159.9 gram Ridge.
I have a 163, so I know you can fudge a couple more grams somewhere, maybe shave down the backside of the logo or something.

Not so concerned with the firmness, but please dont make me play with an Aviar.

Has the 150 class designation as a whole been updated to include 159,9g discs? When I read about it I got the impression that only Japan Open had allowed the 159,9g discs, moving away from the 150 class rules.

EDIT: Found this, but I'm still kinda torn, since they mention that "for the 2010 Japan Open", not that it's an overall update to the rule.

hmmm I have been waiting for one of these in the US. I would really like to see more. I just started playing 150 class for fun this year but I have found that I am really good at it. Just a trick though practice putting a lot with the 150 class putter before playing a tournament, they react a little different in the chains. If I could make it I would really like to make the trip to play in this tournament.

This tourney is not going to be on a short pitch n putt course, just for kids and noobs, but will be played on the 7070' par 60 Seatac DGC.
The idea of 159.9 was so some of the sweetest new discs made for the J.O./A.O. competions would be allowed, like the new Star Destroyers and Katanas.

Ascents ? Can you get some nice stable/overstable Ascents down under 160 grams Steve ?
