Your PDGA 'tax' dollars at work (now hijack free)

How are they exploiting me if:
1) I am giving them my money?
2) if they are doing their job?

If I felt I was being exploited I would:
1) Not re-join
2) Vote for someone else

You have all the right to do those things.

Until now did you know you were being exploited? So if it turns out it was more than just "a few drinks"; would you change your stance? But, how does doing they're job warrant budgeting in these leisures. Necessity is the key, that's what they budget in. The rest they should pay for, as leisures are often mistaken for rights or necessity these days.

#1 - Common sense dictates that since they on the BoD it is nothing at all like some random guy borrowing your money, drinking on your dime and claiming he's attempting to better the sport.

#2 - You've demonstrated that you are willing to manipulate and stretch what has actually happened in order to further your point of view and attempt to manipulate others into believing it (with your outrageous analogy).

You're holding the BOD in some high regard, they're basically people drinking alcohol discussing how to better a fringe sport with membership fee's. What's common sense going to dictate, and what's my agenda I've so clearly illustrated?

How are they not someone borrowing money to discuss a fringe sport? Common sense me that. Fact; they're taking fee's from PDGA. Second fact; they're discussing how to better a fringe sport. Outrageous as you think that claim might be, I don't see me twisting it or manipulating anything for my "agenda".

Just like many organizations allow the BofD a meal allowance during their "summits" meetings, or whatever you'd like to call them. I'm sure no one will consider that concept ridiculous, "feed volunteers!! Bullcrap!". Set the meal allowance at some reasonable number, not filet but not your parents when your 12 giving you that 4$ limit at fast food. At that point they can use that money at their meal as they please. If they decide to get some ribs and a coke fine, or if they burger down so they can pay for a tall microbrew too then let that be their decision. Alcohol doesn't need to be a separate decision.

On the other hand at any conferences we have we always get sponsored by a beer company or liquor rep and so that is covered.

GCR, that generally is the best solution. It covers necessity. If they don't want to eat, and get all boozed up instead. But, really a big liquor tab is a bit different than a food tab. But, the way this is setup just seems suspicious, and often reminds me of big company working it's miracles with tax payers dollars.

Umm...I have stated several times that I do not feel I am being exploited.

How about this:

Nike expresses "interest" and is "thinking" about a 100k per year for 10 year deal for sponsoring the PDGA World championships by Nike so they BoD sets up a multi thousand dollar dinner for their execs with an open bar and expensive multimedia presentations.

Whether or not the deal goes through is that ok?

Alright let's break it down.

Random guy:

has no real pull
has no real involvement
cannot make real decisions
doesn't really care about the sport

BoD member:

makes real decisions that affect the sport every day
is and has been involved in the sport for some time
Obviously cares about the sport otherwise wouldn't be involved

Now you are starting to alter your earlier statement in light of a valid argument being opposite of it since suddenly the "random guy" borrowing money to drink with his buddies has disappeared and you are strictly stating that they are "borrowing money" and that disc golf is a "fringe sport".

I will continue to lay this out for you as long as I have time... but I do have a paper to write soon. Anyone here an education major in college?

Puh-lease! Sound logic and good common sense have no place here. This is witch hunt, remember? You forgot the only obvious answer which is:

3) ...Whine, bitch, moan, whine, bitch, moan, on the internet, which is cheap and easy, but somehow the corrupt incumbents keep their seats, and everyone plunks down another $50-75 the following year for another spoonful of PDGA medicine...

I think my opinion hinges on what exactly they're ordering.

Here are some examples.

Not acceptable: Low-end lagers, Jägermeister, Zima
Acceptable: Scotch (single or blended), IPAs, Malt Liquor (provided that one 40 oz bottle is duct taped to each hand in an Edward Fortyhands fashion

The random guy phrase was in light of the fringe sport reference. As they're known to us, but are essentially nothing special in the world of "sports". But, I digress on that as I see the point of the actual "random guy" not having a say; that's valid.

But, Disc golf is a fringe sport however you want to debate it. It's not widely known or popularly accepted. While there are Pro's in this fringe sport, and some might sit on the BOD; they're just normal people like anyone else. So while you hold the BOD on some high regards they're essentially friends (random guys) hanging out drinking discussing a fringe sport. This is hardly the point of the discussion I was making, outrageous as it might sound.

Perfectly fine, as long as they're not relying on everyone's fee's to support their leisures during their volunteer jobs. Necessity doesn't include their leisures.

Re-posted from up-thread:

How about some perks for those of us who have been in the trenches (City Commission meetings, Parks Dept. meetings, club meetings, one-on-one with shovels or buckets mixing concrete {that includes cement}) doing the grunt work of getting the courses installed and maintained?

"WHERE'S MY FREE DRINKS?"

Don't ever think that the pDGA BOD is coming to your town to help you mix concrete.

1) At a local level, there is no need for a travel, hotel, and meals budget.

2) From my limited experience, and single local area, I have seen the same problem at a local level. Several people stepping up and volunteering in a thank-less job, while many people sit on the sidelines, show up to an event/park they put nothing into, only to come back to a message board to moan and complain about what the people running the event/park did wrong. I think the answer is to find a way to give perks/thanks to those who step up on a local level, not to take away the perks/thanks at the national level.

I don't really care about this whole thread but this is the dumbest argument ever. Just because a person didn't help/volunteer/plan an event doesn't mean they don't have a right to complain about it.

Very true. However, IMO, there are proper ways to provide constructive feedback. In my area, I see moaning and complaining on message boards, not constructive feedback. Furthermore, I see a lot of complaining about issues that are beyond the clearly defined mission statement of certain organizations. In cases like that you have two choices, shut up, or start your own organization that fits a different set of needs.

I don't think talking about what constitutes constructive feedback in this thread would really be a thread drift.
