What Are The Most Brutal Courses?

Leviathan is tough, but Idlewild is indeed the toughest course out of 50 that I've played.

Ranking:

Idlewild
Leviathan
Oshtemo (longs)
Kimball Pines
Meyer Broadway Original

Hudson Mills Monster Course in Ann Arbor is one of the harder courses that comes to mind for me personally.

Flyboy Aviation in Whitesburg GA. Private course, make an appointment.

The 27 hole layout will take roughly 6 hours to complete:
Flyboyee

Now thats more like it par 101 and 14000' with no Ski Hills... Brutal

Although the par 7 1600' hole is odd. just make it 2 holes. Par 7....

Mike, you should come over the Pittsburgh area and play Deer Lakes. I see you have played Moraine before and Deer Lakes is Moraine's roided up big brother. Trying to play both of them in one day will wipe you out. Also as previously mentioned The Black Course in Moundsville WV is a beast.

Its a runway.

The 18 hole signature layout shortens it to a long par 5.

Oh and your "average" player takes a circle 9 to a triple circle 13 on it, only folks like Phil Arthur, Climo, Avery, and Feldberg can par or birdie it.

Diamond X is another brutal one, especially to climb I hear. Just look at the photos!

Well I would have told you to play Nockamixon but I was trying to keep it close to Ohio.......If your ever that far East I would recomend these ego killers

The Black Course, WV
Orange Crush, WV
Monster at Fighting Creek, VA
Idlewild, KY
Nockamixon SP, PA
Iron Hill, Delaware
Quakers Challenge, PA
Moraine STate Park,PA
Deer Lakes State Park, PA

I would rank Iron Hill and Nockamixon as the most difficult on that list with Nockamixon being the most beautiful of that list as well. All of those courses are brutal and truly punish errant throws with certain bogey but play fair if your a 900+ type.

Well Orange Crush is defintely the most brutal physically and difficulty wise...trust me on that

Although I don't have much experience in the Midwest being from CO, I did get the opportunity to play the 1st Class Challenge this year, and would have to say that Big Creek in the Des Moines area, as well as Pickard can be quite challenging and 2 completely different style courses. Off the fairway at Big Creek and you generally just have to hope you get back on the fairway.

Toughest course in Oregon - Hagg Lake

If you'd like another ridiculously-hard course in Oregon, try Pass Creek Park. Actually, I really wouldn't recommend it, as it has virtually no tee markings at all, and only poles for targets. But it's a 9-hole course with 7 water hazard holes. Five holes play over a little lake, with one of the poles being on a tiny island in the middle of it, and another two holes are bounded by a swift-moving river. Also, swimming or wading into the lake isn't allowed.. but even on land you sometimes feel like you're swimming in goose poo there..
