North Carolina Courses

Castle Hayne is one of the Top 3 Best courses in the eastern part of NC (east of I-95). It's arguably the best "flat" course in NC (even though it has small elevation changes it can't help being nearing the coast). If you only have time for 1 course make sure to go there! Just be aware that it can hold water so be advised if it has rained much in the previous 10 days.

Trinity in Carolina Beach is a great par 2 course at a brewery with 2 fun 9s. If people drink beer that would give them something to do.

Joe Eakes in Kure Beach has a great beach vibe with lots of sand, dunes, and scrubby beach type trees and foliage.

Even Harbor United Methodist Church is a pretty nice church course with a little bit of water and some challenge.

The DGCR ratings are quite accurate in the Wilmington area.

Castle Hayne absolutely the top of the list.
Joe Eakes is a number 2. I'm not a huge fan of the course in competition, but for a casual round is really cool.

And on the way to Joe Eakes stop at Good Hops. 9 holes at a brewery. So much fun and GREAT beer.

Hoping for good weather. And yes, I recall that area is EXTREMELY flat for miles and miles.

If it's been a few years since you've played there, I would definitely recommend checking out the redesigned layout. It plays a lot differently that the original 2012 layout with the longs being a legitimately hard course now. Some of the new long, wooded holes are extremely punishing- though still fair.
 
Heading to Charlotte really soon for an early Christmas with the in-laws. The closest courses to the house appear to be the Renaissance complex. I'm also eyeing Ft Mill and hoping to stumble my way around Winthrop while also doing some informal house hunting. Should be hella fun!

Just made a trip there in November. Didn't do any house hunting but did manage to play some courses.

Went to Winthrop mostly just to see it in person. Whatever directions Udisc was trying to give me got me very close but when they wanted me to turn into a parking lot there was a closed and locked gate. Went around a couple of blocks to an area where I could view some of the course but never could figure out an alternate place to park if I actually wanted to play it.

Just be aware Winthrop is a lot different when the USDGC is not there.

No ropes and baskets are not always in the correct locations

Joe Eakes is a rare course where if your disc goes into the trees, there is a better than average chance it will stay up in the trees.

If you're near Renaissance, I recommend maybe hitting Plantation Ruins at Winget Park. Super-fun, not real long, technical. Very pretty and interesting piece of land.

It doesn't get anywhere near the love it should. I haven't checked the reviews in here lately, so not sure how it's rated. But it's one of my absolute favorites for a fun round that doesn't beat you down, physically. You can go really low if you're hitting fairways; or you can end up well over par if not.

It's my home course, but I'm being as unbiased as I can be. I've been playing in CLT for decades, and I get tired of hearing dismissive comments about it. If you want to air out 400-foot drives, then no - it's not where you want to be. But if you want to play some fun-ass GOLF, it's a blast. (And I'm only mentioning it because of the proximity to Renny, etc. If you were further north, I'd say, "Go to Bradford! Go to Brackett's! Go to Stumpy!")

Plantation Ruins was on my list when I visited the area but it was one course that I didn't have time to play. Pretty sure I put it on my list because it looked like a fun course and I'll make sure to hit it up if I'm in the area again.

I ended up at Renny and played the red course which was hella fun! As a bonus, my new brother-in-law tagged along and is now addicted to the game after only one round. He got a couple of pars and promised to practice up so he can kick my ass next time. I'll be sending him some discs out of my stash and link him to this site and some YT tutorials.

I also did a drive-by of Winthrop, but there just wasn't enough time to go stumble about. We really liked the Fort Mill area and will definitely consider it a place to retire to.

Played Arrowhead yesterday morning. I would play that course regularly if I was local. It is mostly pitch and putt. Good elevation use for a short course. Ace run opportunities. If it's open, easily finish under an hour., but it's popular so backup is likely.

Probably won't make Castle Haynes due to schedule conflicts.
 
Looks like a new course popped up near CLT since I last played regularly. Torma Town. Excited to check it out!

They recently added some B pins to this course. Not every hole has two pin placements, but they all have new baskets.

Once I get my new camera setup I'd like to make a video. New benches, bridges and other details - locals sure put in a lot of work here over the years.

#3 has a new pin placement about 25' to the left of the original.

#12 B pin is about 60' deeper into the woods, making the second shot much trickier.

#14 B pin is much longer, maybe 100-120' further out. I used to try to go for birdie with a BH roller on the old pin - on the new one I'm going for two long flicks then hoping to sink a putt for birdie.

Not sure if more are planned but it's cool seeing them mix it up.

Also if anyone else here is into skateboarding, they built a pretty cool little skatepark next to hole 2's basket at Renski.
 
..... but, I'm playing Armfield tomorrow morning. Time allowing I can run by Dobson on the way home. Mebbe. ����
