i used a soft apx putter for a long time. i saw that my friends both had an aviar and it was a much harder disc. both of their discs had the same logo on it, i looked it up and it was a dx aviar. i ordered one right away as i wanted a harder disc for putting.

it showed up and it is Considerably more soft than their dx aviars. it's harder than the apx soft putter... but not by much.

what happend?

Innova happened.

I have ordered 60 avairs in 2 batches for clinics and the first batch was very hard like you describe, the second batch was like the one you got.

If you like the mega stiff, check out a kc pro, they are always stiff...but they are the driver mold, which has a bead.

Ok, complete newb question here, but WTH is a bead on a disc? I hear people say that this disc is beaded, and this disc isn't, but I have no idea what that means.

There's a little added plastic on the rim. This makes the disc a little slower and more stable.

Ok, so I'm sitting here holding my Stalker, and my AvengerSS, and it looks to me like the Stalker has a bead on it, and the AvengerSS does not.

Thanks! ... one of those that was bugging me, but I didn't want to ask .. lol

you throw a buzzz. hold a buzzz up to a wasp. that little "ball" on the bottom of the wasp's rim is the bead.

like the stalker has a bead but it is pretty subtle. Also as for the aviars I've had most DX be fine. However sometimes apparently they'll run the DX stamp on RPro plastic. I have on of those, pretty cool disc but I don't use it anymore. Also yes, innova happens to be inconsistent from time to time, at all of their factories.

I use to kinda look down on Innova for that, but the I said something once around the guy from Sun King Disc, Mike I think... very cool guy, but when I mentioned something about Innova's quality he said this "Yeah they've been known for that. But you try running 3 factories is different environments with their production level and see how smooth things go." Kinda shut me up, but mostly got me to realize Innova does churn out discs fairly well. Look at Gateway though, they have half the product line, 1/3 the production size, and look at how inconsistent they are. Nice discs, just irregular.

Brall,
Most of the stores that you call will find you what you need.
Look up the phone number and give them a call and ask them if they have a stiff DX Aviar. They can look and pick one out for you based on your preferences.
MarshallStreetDiscGolf.com and others will do this. I do not know the phone number, but it is on their website.

You can go to Innova's website and click on the different Aviars, work the little 3d disc image around, and you'll see the differences in the rims and beads of the various Aviars.

To fill my redundancy needs, I have 4 KC Pro Aviars. I practice with all 4 (beats going and getting it after every one or two throws), carry two, one for putting only inside the circle, and the most used/worn one for driving, approaches, and other longer shots. All 4 seem to be the stiffest putters that I've found.
