[Innova] Katana vs. Vulcan

I'm looking for a new understable distance driver, particularly one with a good right turn so I don't have to use side-arm shots and so that I can get more distance. My question is which disc should be easier to throw for distance and keep straight if need be.

Katana: 13, 5, -3, 3
Vulcan: 13, 5, -4, 2

And if anyone has advice to throw these I'd appreciate that too.

isn't Frank Delicious from Raleigh?

he'd be able to give you excellent advice on which of those to throw

presumably you throw far

Just by basing it on the numbers, it would seem that the Vulcan would be easier to throw. I've never thrown a Vulcan, but I do own a Katana. I choose not to throw it since I can get better, more consistent results from slower discs.

How far do you throw? I'm not sure you should be throwing anything that fast if you're that new to dg... tell me and I'll advise you.

how far are you realistically throwing right now

katana will boom if you just stand and swing your arm, if u put it on a hyzer it will flip up and go forever.

Havnt thrown the Vulcan yet, I have three on the way. I throw the Katana pretty good so im hoping for gooder with the Vulcan.

Live long and prosper.

I played a round with one of our local pros today and he brought out his new Vulcan. From what I had been hearing on this site wasn't expecting much, but the dude put it up on a hyzer popped flat almost immediately turned right glided a ways then faded back just slightly. It looked like a super beat Katana right out of the box. He said he will use it for super anny's (annys over 425'), I don't have that kind of control so it won't be in my bag, but it was cool to see.

How far are you throwing that Katana? If you are not throwing it at least 300ft +, you need a slower disc. I would get a Stingray or Sidewinder for those shots. I use a Roadrunner for long understable drives, and for shorter understable shots I use a beat in Star Coyote.

I have found a beat in Leopard will turn over nicely also.

Roadrunner: 9, 5, -4 , 1

Speed 13s are meant for those who throw considerably further than 300'. If you're not there yet, you can still throw them, and they will get you a small amount of extra distance, but you'll sacrifice accuracy, consistency, and valuable experience.

don't throw anything above speed 10ish until you can hit probably about 350 consistently (and accuratly would help) with fairway drivers. I started out doing that crap with a wraith for about 250 feet sidearm flex-shots then i got to this site and saw the light.

I was just at PIA ----- picking up an 11x eagle-x and a full color elitez Reaper HAHA from the used bin -- and went to check out the Vulcan.

That thing has the stupidest dome!!!

HEY INNOVA....WHAT'S WITH ALL THE DOMEY DISCS!!!!! UGH!!!

That's all I can say about the Vulcan at this time.......

Yeah, I can throw about 300 feet these days and I don't need a 13 speed driver.

I can throw about around 400 feet consistantly. I still throw speed 9 Valks as one of my main drivers. Wraith and Destroyers are about as fast as I go. Slower drivers are far more accurate. Keep that philosophy.

If I jump on a Vulcan. It'll be for a roller.

I throw over 400 and I never go faster than a Surge. I've never thrown a Katana or a Vulcan though. I guess I'm pretty happy with my distance and don't feel like trying to buy any more.

I throw about 350 or so and usually use the Valk, Viking, and Wraith as my main drivers, recently I picked up a 165 Pro Katana and found it easy to throw long and straight, kind of like a longer Valk. I'm looking forward to checking out the Vulcan, although I'm sure I'll only use both for long, open drives. If you're pretty new to the sport and want a disc to go right, check out a lightweight DX Sidewinder or a Roadrunner.
