I saw a guy with an iPad 2 on the course...

So, I saw this guy actually hauling an iPad 2 with him. So, I asked him what it was for. He said he uses it to keep score, take photos, look up the maps from this site (which he was not a member of, booooo!), weather, and anything else that might come up.

I asked him if it is an over-stable beast and he did not find that funny at all. Some people have no sense of humor.

Anyway, so I noticed he also had an iPhone as well. Do you think it makes sense to haul that iPad 2 around knowing it could easily break regardless of the case you have it in and dealing with such a bulky item?

I am inclined to think this overkill and showing off. (That rat bastard got one and I'm still looking for one.) LOL

He's shooting a mouse with an elephant gun. A current smart phone should cover all his bases much more cheaply and safely than his iPad. What a tool.

definitely just attached to his toy and showing it off. he didn't want you to make a joke, he wanted to taste your sweet sweet tears of jealousy.

I'm like the ultimate gadget nerd, but there's no WAY I'd haul a brand new iPad 2 onto a disc golf course. I use my Android phone to keep score and take pictures when I'm out, and I've used it before to pull up course maps, but that's it.

I need on to run my weekly series. My old eyes were failing me last night doing the scores and trying to read scorecards as the daylight was fading. I think i'm going to pick one up.

there's a radio show that comes here late night in which they always have the same "guest" on and they change his name every show and he always becomes this guy who is doing something really stupid, insane or offensive so people who have never heard the show call in and freak out on the guy.

About a month ago the guy said he was a school teacher and he made his students throw in money so he could buy the new iPad 2 to replace his current iPad. Basically he was acting like he needed the iPad 2 to teach his kids better than he could with the iPad 1 but at the same time he kept talking about all the stuff he was doing outside of school with his iPad and that he needed the iPad 2 to do even more **** outside of the class.

So people called in and were freaking out about him making kids pay for his new iPad and he just kept saying his life would be better with an iPad 2 and the kids should be happy to pay for it. It was awesome.

I have never used one but I don't get the point of an iPad. They just look big and stupid to me. I would rather just get a small laptop than deal with that thing.

I'd guess he was trying to use it to justify the cost more than showing off. There are a lot better places to show off an iPad than a disc golf course.

He should have just tagged along with you rather than pull that iPad out to look up maps. Human contact is dwindling thanks to new technology (smartphones in particular). Plus its not everyone against everyone in golf, its everyone versus the course.

I always thought it would make more sense for the iPad to come out first and THEN the smaller version being the iPhone. Just a thought

I was having the same thoughts. I didn't want to have to try and find some Xcel compatible software for the Iphone/Ipad. The smaller laptops have 4-5 hours battery life and the Ipad2 has 10hrs. Then I got a new stereo installed in my truck that is IPhone/IPad app compatible. Pandora, movies, music, and even Nav apps show up on the screen. It is suddenly becoming appealing.

People like that guy are one of two reasons why I've never bought anything made by Apple. The other is Apple's incessant need to start their product's names with a lowercase 'i'.

One of the main reasons I play disc golf is to get away from those types of items. I bring my cell phone with me but usually keep it in my car, carrying an ipad with seems overkill and lame.

Apple actually released a set of office programs for the iPad that are compatible with word, excel and powerpoint. I saw it on iTunesU, so I'm not sure if you have to be a student or not.

My one gripe with the iPad is that they do not have an HDMI output, but then the tablets that do have the outputs (HTC Flyer, Motorola ZOOM) are about twice the price of the iPad, so...
