Is this a real shot???

I've heard it called a basketball shot.

I use it in place of a turbo putt for short putts under 10'.

zero utility, its just a gimme he decided to showboat on. I knew a guy that would flip up his disc with his left hand and spike it into the basket with his right on gimmes. It just makes you look baller.

Lol, I always heard it referred to as a basketball putt. I use it sometimes in casual rounds for like 10' and in. It's fairly accurate, but impossible to get 20'+ feet with.

OK, there isn't a shot in the world with zero utility if you practice it all the time. But if you haven't, why not learn to turbo put instead? Turbo putting is way more high percentage to the average person.

We call it the "hippie flip"

I spent hours and hours until I "Hippie Fliped" a 360 Kickflip on Skate a few years ago. haha.. I finally got it but what a waste of time!

The shot in the video would be useful maybe once or twice a year IMO.. BUT it would be nice to be able to do it when you needed to.

I am told that people like to throw them because it minimizes the effect that the wind has, but I have never quite figured out how you are supposed to throw them more than 5' or so with any kind of accuracy.

Yikes, thats just asking for trouble. I have had some 5' putts get blown directly back out of dead chains. The disc almost always lands flat to the chains and it sets up a sail begging to be blown.

I have to disagree.

If you're close to the basket, and have obstacles preventing you from shooting straight at the basket, it's a good up and over shot.

nothing a turbo or (ultimate) scoober can't do equally as well with more consistency

i kept getting on a card with this guy who would turbo putt flipping the disc end over end from inside 15 ft like a slam dunk. he was definitely showing off, and at a tourny of all places. i never wish for people to miss, but this guy was a complete doucher who thought his sh*t didnt stink. after seeing about 20 of those i would have liked to see him facemask and shart himself simultaneously.

More opinions stated as fact but I'll bite:

Let me start by listing my my criteria for using the shot in question. The direct putt line is blocked from eye level down and the shot is within 10'.

I'm not saying the turbo putt isn't as functional but in my experiences the amount of spin needed for an accurate turbo putt causes more inconsistency in the chains than the hippie flip at short distances. If I could guarantee to myself that I would always hit strong side on a blind up and over shot then I would go with the turbo. Since that doesn't happen I've become proficient with basketball style.

Outside of 10' the hippie flip is garbage and will start moving to the right for me.

Niche shot: yes
Worthless: no*

I'd throw a tomahawk aiming to have the disc hit the chains upside down over the hippy flip in that situation. I'm calling it worthless.
