Review by lammersk in course Eagle's Nest DGC

3.00 star(s) Improved Easy to get to if you are around Kingsport and you want to try out disc golf. ***(2017) Someone put the effort in to put numbers on the pins and paint each basket a bright, easy to spot yellow. It has really improved the course.*** 1. No signs showing the layout of a hole. 2. No signs...

Review by lammersk in course Steele Creek DGC

3.00 star(s) Wish There Were 18 This is the most wide open of the courses in the Kingsport-Johnson City-Bristol area. However, the baskets are placed so that you are not often just shooting across a straight grassy field. There are almost always trees or hills or rough close enough to make some control...

Review by lammersk in course Sawmills Veterans Park - Original

1.50 star(s) Spray & Pray Really good tees. I really started to dislike this course at pin 5. Shooting over a ravine with no real fairway and praying that your disc bounces off a tree in the right direction does not make a good pin. Then we came to 7 and realized that we were supposed to throw over the tees...

Review by lammersk in course Timmons Park

3.00 star(s) Great Little Course Timmons is a small municipal park where someone put some thought and effort into making an above average course. While there are no spectacular, "signature" pins, there are also no bad ones. I like the neon green pins with blue baskets and bands; they may look a little tacky...

So, how did you play today?

I was out at Warriors Path today and only two pins went badly: 5 and 6. Of course, saying they went badly is a bit like saying Pearl Harbor went badly for the US Navy. These are mirror fairways - 5 shooting up a hill with various tree obstacles and 6 shooting down the same hill. Each has trees...

    [Innova] Polecat

Keeping that Ion Yeah, I noticed that when I threw them both into the chains the Polecat had a tendency to bounce off of them if it hit them flat or even flatish while the Ion would slip sideways inside and catch more chains. It never bounced far enough to leave the basket, but it made me wary.

    [Innova] Polecat

Okay, so yesterday I'm in the midst of the trauma of replacing my beloved Rivers with Witnesses or possibly Diamonds (if the Frost plastic keeps throwing as well as it did today) because I have improved just barely enough that these discs are starting to consistently outperforming the Rivers. I...

Why MUST We Throw Certain Discs?

When I started out the salesman at Dick's (who I am pretty sure had never seen a disc golf course) sold me the Innova DX beginner pack and a 155g DX Beast ("for the really long shots"). I spent a lot of time trying to make those discs work. The Beast was the worst. Every so often I would get an...

    Who is a Winter Discer?

I love golf in the Winter. There is at least one course around here (Warriors Path) which is so crowded it is basically unplayable anytime after noon on a Summer weekend. In the Winter I can play anytime I want. In fact, last Saturday I played it in 4" of snow/slush and had a blast. The only...

Review by lammersk in course Kiwanis DGC

1.50 star(s) Replayed: Still Dangerous Starts with three short control pins and then goes into several nice longer pins (new 4 through 8) which make the course much funner than it was. 7 is particularly good as it plays over a rolling field at 468 feet. Here's what I wrote when this was a nine pin course...

Review by lammersk in course Sugar Hill

0.00 star(s) Nice if you can get there Fairly easy course on a rolling hay field with very few trees. A very good course for a beginner. Experienced players will probably spend their time seeing if they can get aces. [Added 26 July 1014 - The course is unplayable. The grass is anywhere from knee high to...

Review by lammersk in course Winged Deer Park

4.00 star(s) Tough and Fun This is the toughest course I've played (#2 is Warriors Path and #3 is Richmond Hill) and it is still my favorite. Almost every pin rewards accuracy instead of simple brute strength throwing. There are a number of pins here which could be "the" tough pin elsewhere and while there...

Review by lammersk in course Morristown Kiwanis DGC

3.00 star(s) Very Fun This course takes some technical skill to play, but it isn't ridiculously hard. It's just a lot of fun. You're going to hit some trees, but generally there isn't a lot of underbrush, so you won't be searching forever or climbing through brambles to get your disc. You'll vary which disc...

Review by lammersk in course Cherokee Park DGC

2.50 star(s) Where You Go To Practice Your Long Game This course was recommended to me as "the" course to practice your long throws. It is. Lots of throws over big, open areas and even where there are tree hazards you can generally use a disc you can control a little better to get past them and go back to...

Review by lammersk in course Rotary DGC

1.50 star(s) Well Thought Out Course : Poorly Thought Out Location A fairly easy course which has a variety of different layouts.. A number of pins appear to have wood hazards, but the reality is that most are easily handled because the trees have enough space between them and few low lying branches so...
