If you're picking up 80 by heading down 5 to Sacramento, and you like a hike with your DG, I can recommend Black Butte Lake, about half way between Redding and Sacramento. I also enjoyed Treasure Cove and Sunnyside in IA.

Played my 4th out of home state course today, Black Butte Lake in N Cali. Just me and the critters and hill after hill of tall dry grass waving in the wind. Felt like I was in heaven.

If no one else chimes in I could do the Z and Saddle Hills with you, but it would have to be early, like a 630 or 700 o'clock start.
