Cahoon Creek DGC 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 22, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-good use of the hilly terrain to lay out 9 holes
-excellent signage, fairly simple to navigate
-newer baskets that catch well
-several ace run opportunities
-challenging lines on several of the holes

Cons:

-not much length to challenge your game; not necessarily a con for everyone
-natural tee pads on all but #1
-quite a bit of backtracking between holes to get to the next tee

Other Thoughts:

Cahoon Creek is a nice 9-holer on the west side of Cleveland, in an area that does not have many course options for the dg community. Played with my cousins this AM, and we had a frosty but fun round this Thanksgiving morning...not a whole lot of length to challenge your game, but it is a decent short course overall!

Beauty Alone Doesn’t Cut It! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 7, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Cahoon Creek is a nice piece of land in beautiful Bay Village. Tons of elevation for an area so close to the lake shore.

+ There's a few fun, memorable holes here. #1, #4, and #6 are very solid and would be welcomed on just about any course.
* #1 is very steep downhill, and features the only concrete tee on the course. It hooks sharp right with a creek behind the pin. If you can throw a good hyzer with a big arm, you can put in pretty close to the basket. It's 385', but the disc can carry that far with the elevation.

* #4 has two routes to the pin with the creek running along the right side, even though it really doesn't factor in to the shot. Nice wooded hole with multiple elevation changes.

* #6 is a lefties hole. The sign says it's over 400' with a tough pin position for roll-a-ways. Another fun wooded toss.

+ Nice baskets for every hole and decent tee signs that do the job.

+ The property is just stunningly beautiful. Cahoon Creek runs near the course, you also get great views of the cliffs on 6. Lake Erie is visible towards the middle of the course.

+ Large parking lot with a course sign and restrooms near the first tee.

Cons:

- The design... wow it was brutal. The property was begging for a course and the design was butchered. Several holes require you to walk back up the previous fairway to get to the next tee. Lots of overlapping.

- The walk from #4 to #5 is a bit ridiculous. Also, #9 ends on the opposite side of the ravine, so you have to walk all the way around to get back to the parking lot.

- I was excited to see concrete on #1, but every tee after that is natural with roots growing way out of the ground where the tee is supposed to be.

- Every hole besides 1, 4, and 6 are filler holes. Short, straight, and bland.

- #8 and #9 tees are literally parallel to each other. You throw 310' to the basket for 8, walk all the way down the fairway to #9's tee, and play essentially the same hole with a parking lot along the left side. Terrible!

- The creek is pretty and all that, but it never comes into play, except for a very bad approach shot on #1.

- The pars on the tee signs make no sense. The 400'+ hole that bends hard right and into a heavily wooded area is a par 3; but #8 is straight and downhill about 300' but it's considered a par 4. Confusing.

- There's also not one, not two, but THREE par 2 holes, that's a huge no no for me. If it's a par 2, it's too short!

- The sign for #7 said 190', but it's really only about 100' max.

Other Thoughts:

The design is very bad, and needs re-done. The property is awesome, but it isn't utilized correctly for a good course at this point in time.

There's three good holes, and six terrible ones. Mix that with long walks and a confusing layout, you don't have an enjoyable experience.

Fun little course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 27, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good mix of challenges for novice and recreation players. Intermediate on up will have a birdie fest.

Cons:

Natural tee boxes, need flypads if you can't do concrete. Lack of signage pointing to the next tee after Hole 5. First 4 holes were easy to find the tee box and path to 5 was well documented.

Other Thoughts:

It was close to the grandparents so it was fun to play after Thanksgiving dinner. Not being from this area it is real important that signage be clear on the course. Enjoyed playing off the elevation of hole 1.

Fun little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 29, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Challenging for beginners and some intermediate players. Well marked wholes. Several of the wholes are in a senic setting. A couple of " grip it and rip it" wholes.

Cons:

Long walk from 9 the the car. Whole 9 has a paved parking lot next to it. One of my discs got a little scraped up as a result. Walk to 5 is long. They should put a shortcut through the woods.

Other Thoughts:

Fun course. I'll play it again.

Nice course with a little something for everyone 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

--Fairly beginner friendly
--Some more challenging holes for more experienced player
--Good signs and natural tees
--Nice baskets
--well maintained

Cons:

--walk to #5 tee, they should put in a bridge
--walk back to the parking lot from #9, again, a bridge would be nice
#8 and #9 are a bit boring... just wide open, "grip it and rip it" type holes

Other Thoughts:

I really liked this course, and if I'm on the west side again I will for sure be playing it... a couple of short holes (190-230) that play as par 2s make it nice for beginners, and in the same breath, #5 is an incredible dog leg right which is a tough par 3 (IMHO).

A very decent beginner's / intermediate course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 1, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

* Beautiful scenic park setting with a river winding through the course.
* All holes are mapped at the beginning of the course and again at the tee.
* Tees are clearly marked.
* All holes have their number printed on them. That makes things SOOOO much easier.
* Excellent use of available space.
* Perfect course for a quick game at any skill level.

Cons:

* Tees are dirt, so when the ground is wet it's difficult to get a run up.
* Because of space restraints some holes require the player to backtrack just a bit to get to the next tee.
* Despite playing in the woods trees very rarely come into play.
* More holes than you'd expect play straight from tee to basket.

Other Thoughts:

The Cahoon Creek DGC in Bay Village is an absolutely playable course that is perfect for a quick pick up game with friends. The course plays alongside a winding creek through a park that is lightly forested. I'd call the course perfect for beginning and intermediate players, who will appreciate being able to get at or near par on many of the holes, while more experienced players will find that it's by no means a pushover. Is this a Medina or a Hudson? No, but I'd say it's perfectly acceptable to put it on par with Willoughby.
