    [PDGA Major] Champions Cup 2024

The Rules Committee hasn't quite figured out a way to write a rule that allows additional free casual relief along an OB line that doesn't continue to follow the line of play even if it meant the player would move back even farther from the target.

    [PDGA Major] Champions Cup 2024

Remember water is not OB unless labeled that way. Landing in water could be marked the same way as it is now using the Relief Area rule 806.04 which works like OB but without the penalty stroke. BTW, isn't losing a disc enough of a penalty? However, designing for minimal OB penalties doesn't...

    [PDGA Major] Champions Cup 2024

Rules provide the universe of format choices that can be made. Design of various game formats and related stats measuring score and player performance have guidelines for playing each one. We use the same baseline rules for various doubles formats, mulligans and match play along with their...

    [PDGA Major] Champions Cup 2024

OB penalties are not inherently bad, they provide a different game scoring element in the same way a basketball shot made beyond a certain distance was reassigned a value of 3 pts instead of 2 pts in 1979. Scoring stats from the previous 2-pt era could not be properly combined with the new 3-pt...

    [PDGA Major] Champions Cup 2024

There's no need for water to be OB. It's casual by the rules unless designated by the TD who thinks it's supposed to be OB by popular opinion to provide scoring separation. However, does the DGPT really want artificially created additional scoring separation, when landing in water by itself may...

    [PDGA Major] Champions Cup 2024

Note that courses in PGA events have scratch course ratings in a tight 4-5 stroke range from say 68 to 73 and pars from 70-72 so their stats are fairly comparable. They would have the same level of stats confusion if they were playing courses over a much wider course rating range like disc golf...

    [PDGA Major] Champions Cup 2024

The ratings are produced from a relatively simple math formula that produces an adjusted scoring average similar to percentages. For example, compare rating stats from an SSA 56 course with one like Northwoods which came in close to 76. Subtract 36 from each SSA as the fixed number of strokes...

    [PDGA Major] Champions Cup 2024

Your way is ineffective for designing holes in advance or correcting them when the data shows the design for scoring needs tweaking. Has nothing to do with our "official" par definition that we and all of the posters suffering through thousands of posts recognize doesn't always allow birdie...

    [PDGA Major] Champions Cup 2024

Look at scoring data from the field of players at the distance/skill level the hole has been designed for. Determine the lowest score that at least 15% have thrown. That's a birdie since it's the score players and commentators would refer to as "scoring". On hole 12, about 1% score 4 and 20%...

2024 PDGA Amateur Disc Golf World Championships

Not sure what the format requirements are for Master Worlds. We're hosting next year and think we would have enough quality courses so Am divisions could play 3 or 4 different courses while the pro divisions play 2.

2024 Texas States presented by Lone Star Discs

Organizers are starting to get the message that courses need to be shorter for FPO to get better scoring and closer scoring among competitors to match the scoring and competitiveness in MPO. Texas States is a good example of this direction.

I think loss of grip strength as you age is one factor related to loss of distance in general and loss due to fatigue after playing more than one round in a day tournament style. Here's an article on strengthening your grip with exercises to do while watching DGN...

    Scorecard playoff?

I agree, especially since players are only playing against the course(s) and not directly against their field. Just let first place ties stand. Then, do the putting competition as an entertaining side game that determines who gets first place money but the tournament title remains shared. ;)

    Scorecard playoff?

Playing all 18 holes is a complete game unit of challenges which we agree can't/won't be done. Each hole tests a different combination of challenges. Any starting playoff hole and those that follow which may or may not need to be played are a random portion of the full game unit with the skill...

    Scorecard playoff?

It's in the hands of those decision makers who read or hear about it to consider whether to test the idea. Many things about live streaming changes or should change the calculus from the old days.

    Scorecard playoff?

You keep making assertions that the current way is better without objective reasons why that's so, versus the specific reasons my proposal is objectively better for TDs, players, spectators, volunteers, videographers, and those footing the bill to produce the benefits I listed. The current way...
