Breckinridge Park in Richardson is finally getting a permanent course installed. Eric McCabe is the designer and he's calling it a "fantasy park-style course". He also said if it's popular then the city may consider a larger course at another location in the park.

Mid November is when the course is suppose to open per the city.

Eric told me he designed it about a month ago.


dgaficionado and I played a temp course out there a few months ago, I talked with the city guy and recommended him hiring a professional. When I mentioned Eric, he said that is who they were thinking about. At the time, he said he was working on getting it in the ground, but didn't have a time table on when.

From what Eric said, he was not shown the temp layout, he designed the course from scratch.

I played the new Breckinridge Park course on Thanksgiving. Eric McCabe did a nice job with the land provided. I don't play tournaments, but it looks like it will be perfect for them. Large parking lot. Restroom. Large pavilion. I can't see a hole where a bottleneck would occur. Hard to lose a disc there. Pretty fun, although it's pretty long for old guys like me. 17 is the only hole that I want to birdie every time. The rest are too long, or too guarded, to get to with my noodle arm. Elevation is in play, with most of the short holes uphill with trees in the way. A lot of 100 foot approaches for me. Going back today to try again.

I played the new Breckinridge course on black friday. Crazy busy, and per udisc it was crazy busy this past weekend too.

It's a good layout, I'd say about as challenging as most of the courses in the area. Nowhere near as tough as Heritage, the other Eric mccabe course in DFW.

The biggest concern I have is there's alot of foot paths winding through the course that you have to throw over or near. There was considerable jogger/walker/biker traffic we had to wait for. On the plus side as long as you were paying attention you could see them coming.

Burleson extended their course to 18–not sure when, probably been a few years now. We've played it a few times recently.

It's a fun course. Mostly flat with some trees, but not super challenging. Regardless I think it's a lot of fun to play. I think it's because the skill level to play well is around my upper limit. Ie I have a shot at birdie (2 or 3) on most holes, but getting a the bird requires my best throws.

Lestor Lorch courses are my favorite in DFW. Crossroads, near it, is also a fun play. ZBoaz has been fun every time I play it. Even as I approach 62 years old... I'd look forward to playing there. It's a long way from Garland, and the mobs are always a pain, even when they let you play through. Saddle Hills is both really fun, and strange at the same time. It just feels "off". It's a feeling, so I'll leave it at that. I like Towne Lake, but my aging card mates only want to play Alex Clark when we play in that area. I get it. I can't throw as far as I used to, either. Gateway has always been fun, in every layout, but it's gotten so crowded, that it's a pain to go there. Harry Myers just isn't the same since it became 2.0. I live close, but I don't go out there much anymore. Maybe I'm nostalgic for the much better course that it used to be. Yeah... that's it. BB is crowded and sketchy. I don't care about that much, but I can see how it can be an issue for some. Audubon is fun, but... it's not a really good layout. The fun factor is because it's "long, old school" that isn't too crowded. The park is nice. It's just a little repetitious, so... boring. Founders is a fun play. I like Turner, but it's on the way out. Too bad. Fritz is a lot like Audubon. At least, that's the way I see it. I'll end this by saying, yet again... I miss Beaver Creek.

That would be good news, they were going to completely revamp that park and Disc Golf was not in the master plan. I know Jim Dart worked hard on that course and was working hard to keep it in.

I think they OG post was talking about Bailey Lake in Burleson. It was a 9 hole course when it first went in. I never got a chance to play it till after it became an 18 hole course. It's not a bad course. Just several holes that you can loose a disc on.

Just a short drive, but well worth it - These are pay to play
The Hideaway - 2 courses now, on the weekends I do believe the grill is open
Dino Hills - Way out west but worth the drive. 3 courses, a par 2 course, a regular course and a super longer course.

Veterans is good in Arlington.
If you play Harry Myers, Audubon, Rowlett, and Breckinridge are all good courses within 30 minutes of HM.

Heritage is a definite must play, I think the most challenging course in the metroplex. Zboaz is a must play too.

There's another popular course across the highway from Towne Lake called Alex Clark, but I don't like it as much as…any of the courses I listed.
Trinity is ok, looooong walks to the next tee though. Brutal when I played it this summer at 100+*.

I don't know about "Great" They are good for what we have to work with here.

Texas is mostly flat and very few tree's. Most of the best courses in the area are not what you normally would expect for a Texas course.

We do have plenty of park style boring courses in the area.

The worst of the worst is Castle Hills. No one will own up to designing that course, it was installed by the builder and does use the area provided, but it's not a good course. It's like 3 miles from my house and I have only played it once.

There is a church in Duncanville called Crossroads. It has, when maintained, the hardest course in DFW. I have played Harry Myers, Heritage, Veterans and Z Boaz. All are excellent courses. Crossroads is very near to Lester Lorch, which are two of the most scenic courses in DFW. Duncanville is in southwest Dallas County. If you are in excellent physical condition and could play four courses in one day I would play Turner (Grand Prairie), Crossroads (Duncanville) and the two courses at Lester Lorch (Cedar Hill). All four are within 20 minutes of each other. I would be exhausted after one round, two at most, but I am old. Turner has the longest hole in DFW, over 1000 feet. Hole 18. Turner probably has the most elevation change of any course in DFW. All four courses are in the southwest corner of Dallas County.

Z Boaz is in the far distant southwest corner of Tarrant County (county due west of Dallas County). It could be the most difficult course in DFW, elevation change, open holes, technical holes, couple of blind throws. You want to play with a local the first time you play this course or Veteran's Park in Arlington. Both courses are known for holes you cannot see from the teepad. Heritage is the best maintained course in DFW with the nicest facilities. Heritage is fairly close to Lake Lewisville, if you want to play something nearby. Trophy Club to the west of Heritage is also worth playing and fairly close by DFW standards. I live about two miles from Veteran's Park and have played it more than 1000 times. It is a fun course. If you are here between Christmas and New Years I can probably break long enough to play one course. LOL, I am too old to play more than one round a day. I am only about an 820 rated player. Assuming you have a car and want to play Z Boaz, I would match it with Veteran's in Arlington and maybe Saddle Hills, a nice course, but ordinary. It is within 25 minutes of Z Boaz. Some people are saying Bicentennial is worth playing, but I have not played there in seven years. It is in Burleson area and kinda on the way to Z Boaz.

Fritz in Irving is a good course, but very ordinary. Towne Lake is a good course. Someone on the north side of Dallas County could better comment on the courses up there.

Lake Lewisville, Heritage and Trophy Club are all very close to the northern borders of Dallas and Tarrant County and within ten miles of the border between Dallas and Tarrant County, and near the southern border of Denton County. They would make a good set of courses to play in one day.

BTW, Most days I am free in the daytime. I am usually sleeping, but I could got to bed early for a round or two with you guys.

In the past I have even picked guys up from their hotels and taken them to the better course in the area based on my free time. (although it's been a while since someone needed that, Uber I guess)

A few reasons but mostly I think the hole designs are boring and the park accumulates plenty of trash and many shots have a high likelihood of hitting a person or a car: Turner Park - Reviews

I'll echo eegor's shout of Gateway Park in East FW. It's totally worth checking out especially if you can go during the work day to reduce traffic. It's one of the rare courses in the metroplex where driving accuracy is much more important than driving distance.
