Disc golf and carpal tunnel?

Yesterday I went out for a round. On almost all of my tee shots (and max effort throws) I got a pain in my wrist. It felt like a really bad cramp or muscle contraction. By the time I walked down to my disc it would be gone. And it didn't bother me on short throws. I've never experienced this before yesterday. I was wondering what you guys thought. Just a fluke? Or has anyone else experienced this?

The first thing I thought was maybe it was carpal tunnel. After some Googling it seems to have similar symptoms of what I experienced, but I guess I'll have to wait and see if this becomes a common pain every time I throw.

I get that sometimes if I am over powering shots and its cold outside

Usually due to me trying to throw too hard, losing form and torquing my wrist as a result. Not a nice feeling

slow down, throw smooth

The beginning symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome is numbness in the two middle fingers of either hand. It will seem as if you are losing power in your overall grip. It's not a very good feeling. I have numerous co-workers that have carpal tunnel and it's not something you want to wait on before seeing a specialist.

Carpal tunnel is a repetative stress injury caused by doing a motion alot over time. If it was me I would first look at what do I do the same every day. People who do things with their hands seem to fall victim to this injury. The only sure fire way to find out if this is what you have is to have a test done involving radio frequency waves in the muscles to see how fast they contract. If there is a delay inthe contractions then the discussion proceeds to if you require surgury. If you are waking in the mornings with your hands cramped up and hurting like heck, go see a Dr.

I haven't had any pain any other time and no numbness either thankfully. I read about the repetitive motion, which immediately made me thing "well, I make the same motion on every throw and it's obviously very wrist intensive". Maybe I'm over-thinking and it was just a weird thing that happened. I will probably start doing a more extensive stretch/warm-up before I go out there and start trying to make big throws.

You place a ton of force on the wrist when trying to throw bombs.

I am no doctor, but I bet its a combo of too much power and poor form (which results from too much power)

I've noticed when I haven't played for a while my First few drives are like this, but after that I'm ok.

I just chalk it up to your wrist just being in shock from the disc being ripped out of your hand.
