Disc Golf History: First round: Pyramids: Summer of '99, hooked by the fourth hole. Putted with my Valkyrie. Wow, this is an old thread...but some interesting information nonetheless.

Thought I'd start it up again. This seems like something that should be on the front page for introductions.

Unity = My real name is Jake Gionet - My username came from an obsession with 311

Hometown: Van Meter, Iowa

Where can you find me: Courses around Des Moines during the summer. In the spring and fall then usually Carroll Marty DGC or ISU Stable Run in Ames, IA.

Division: Intermediate Am...I'm going to start playing Advanced Am at my local courses this fall, and hopefully I'll be a full time Advanced Am player by next year.

Disc Golf History: I played for the first time as a junior in high school. After a month or two of sporadic playing I didn't play again until the end of my freshman year of college. It wasn't until 18 months later (fall of 2008) I started playing to get better instead of just as something to do outside. I started doing tourneys in the summer of 2009, and became a PDGA member in the fall of 2009. My PDGA number is 41875.

Top 6 Courses: I've only played Iowa courses at the moment, but I have plans for a trip to the Twin Cities and Kansas City, among other places. Luckily Iowa has some pretty kick ass courses. I'd add others but since I've yet to branch out from central Iowa I'll keep it at six. I'm sure my two planned trips and a venture out to western Iowa will add a couple others.

Pickard Park, Indianola, IA
Walnut Ridge DGC, Johnston, IA
McHose Park, Boone, IA
Ewing Park, Des Moines, IA
Carroll Marty DGC, Ames, IA
Big Creek State Park DGC, Polk City, IA

My Bag:
6 PDs (2 C-PDs, 2 S-PDs, and 2 P-PDs)
3 Destroyers (2 Stars and 1 Pro)
1 XXX (Opto Line)
3 Buzzzes (2 Glo Z and 1 Elite Z)
1 Fuse (Gold Line)
4 Ions (3 softs for putting and 1 medium for driving)

My Job: During the school year I don't have a job. I've spent the last 4 summers (including this one) working as an IT intern on various teams at Principal Financial Group.

Education: I will beginning my fifth (and hopefully final) year at Iowa State University this fall. My major is Computer Engineering.

Sports: In high school I played football, basketball, track, and baseball. I passed on some scholarship opportunities for both football and basketball to focus more on education once in college. Of all the sports, I enjoyed track the most. I was a sprinter (100m, 200m, 400m) and threw discus.

Family: No family of my own as of yet, but I have been dating my girlfriend for a little over two years now.

Dreams: I'd love to be a competing Open player someday. I'd also love to get my girlfriend as into disc golf as I am (even if she isn't good, just wanting/willing to go). When I buy a house I fully intend to buy/build one on a 15-18 acres of land so that I can build a personal 18 hole course. I cannot wait for that to happen.

Sure is an old thread.

Mike C = Mike C.

Hometown: Canton, OH

Where can you find me: Skateparks, DGC's, the woods and in the gym lifting weights

Division: Am, just started competing recently save for my one and only tournament appearance at last years Monster.

Disc Golf History: Zealot / lock-off started me Spring in '09, enjoyed it my first few times out but didn't get real into it until the Summer. Spent some time that late summer and fall trying out different discs, going to different courses and playing with a lot of different people. Learned a lot of good advice during those months. Played in the 09 Monster without a partner, so I got two mulligans per hole which was fun. Been playing in some league games the past two months at Canton and Dover.

Top 10 Courses:

Haven't played very many, so...

Portersville - Moraine State Park
Canton - Arboretum / Spiker Park
Medina - Roscoe Ewing
Dover - Deis Hill
Massillon - Oak Ledges
Louisville - Wildwood
Hudson - Hudson Springs
Alliance - Memorial Park
Malvern - Tank Run
Akron - Portage Lakes State Park

My Bag: Currently it's this: SSS Magic, Evo Wizard, SS Wizard, Z Glo Buzz x2, Z Glo Stalker, QOLF. Pretty set on everything except the distance driver, and sometimes consider adding an overstable disc like a Predator.

My Job: Whatever pays the bills

Education: Aside from HS, A+ certified in computers and began my education to become a Firefighter / EMT.

Sports: I've done karate, baseball, football, basketball, soccer, swimming, mountain biking, weight lifting, disc golf, skateboarding, aggressive rollerblading, bmx, target shooting with my .22, and I've run a couple races and placed horribly

Family: I have one. Wouldn't mind starting my own a few years down the road once I'm more prepared for it.

Tattoos: Not a fan. I figure I have enough scars already from life / skateboarding, plus I think people look better without them. I don't care if other people get them but for me there's nothing out there I feel inclined to have inked on my body.

Fears: Pfft.

Dreams: Having my own land a few miles from the nearest town so I can enjoy life fairly secluded would be cool. Being a touring pro skateboarder would be cool but I don't mind the idea of a "real job" either. As far as DG goes I'm happy as long as I keep my game good enough to where I'm content with how I play, and I can enter league games and tourneys and have a chance to make $$ from it.

Played about once a week in 2009, about twice a week in 2010. I've lived mostly on the fringe of the local DG scene, don't have the time to invest in leagues or tournaments. Played my first tourney in May, 2010 and shot a 1018 rated round in what will likely be the pinnacle of my DG career . Owe it all to the good folks of DGR. Where can you find me: At home mostly. Then on the practice field. Then at Charlie Vettiner DGC.

Division: Pro/Open

Disc Golf History: Started playing this addicting game in June 2000, after my brother introduced me to the game. I thought it was a stupid idea until I actually played the game. Then I was hooked. I immediately wanted to play another round! Have only stopped a couple of times since, once for brain surgery (second) in 2008. Slowly coming back, but not really. Can't play more than 1 round in a day without killing myself with pain and other issues. Not too much fun, but hey--whatcha gonna do?

Sports: I played many sports, including soccer, tennis, bodybuilding and auto racing. Was only able to compete in one national championship in racing and nearly won it after racing for only 2 years. Had to stop due to my first brain surgery.

Family: Have a very understanding wife and two kids. Zeke, my oldest, goes to the practice field with me and even has the x step down (he showed it off to Mom). He is going to like DG, I think. My youngest is 2 months, so a little early.

Fears: Heights. Nothing else, really. I've had life threatening stuff happen to me before. It's good to be nervous about some things but not fear them.

Dreams: Being able to play a full round without needing medication to get through it and not being laid up for days afterward. Other than that, having my family play together and just having fun with them. My wife has even said a few things about wanting to learn...
