Disc Golf Podcasts

What are the other 1/3 non-useless filler podcasts you've heard?
Usually (but not always) the first 15-20 minutes of the same podcasts. It like after roughly that amount of time, there's nothing else to talk about, so they start fielding lame questions or start doing random jibber-jabber for sake of filling the other 30-45 minutes.

Podcasts share one thing in common with porn movies. In both cases, the fast forward button is your friend.

What sort of penetrating questions are you looking for?

As for penetrating questions, how about what other pros think about other pros' indiscretions? How about what pros think about ANYTHING? All we get is, "how'd you get into disc golf?", "what's in your bag?", "what are your favorite courses?", "how can we grow the sport?" over and over and over.

Got it. That's exactly my point. I feel the same way. If a pro is boring, fine. But it's up to the interviewer to limn the personalities and stories of the pro. I've personally met a few top pros and, to me, they've all seemed unique.

Coming up at the top of the hour...

* SEX in disc golf, is it real, or is it only in the Pro division?
* Can birdie bags really give you herpes? We investigate, you decide!
* The glamorous life of a 950 rated Pro Master, taking advantage of the system while protecting their game.
* Attractive female disc golfers who aren't pro, myth or reality?
* Will GG every grow a second nose, we have details that say YES!
* New reviews on the products you just can't be without, like any new plastic from anyone else but Innova, because you are a flaming disc golfer hipster.
* Is the turbo putt really a sign that you are in the Illuminati? Cult leaders argue!

Is that what you are looking for?
Exactly what I'm looking for. Might be a little too bland, however...

What makes you think they want to talk about other players' "indiscretions"? Sounds like you want to hear them dish dirt on one another. Why would they want to do that? Seems to me that if there was a podcast that did what you want to hear, few of the pros would bother sitting down for an interview with them.

You sound like you want disc golf TMZ. Can't see many if any of the top players participating in something like that. It's not just the interviewers that need to be on board with that kind of show.

Disc golfers sound boring because the life of a touring pro really isn't that exciting.

I disagree.

A) disc golfers only SOUND boring because the interviewers usually leave so many questions/follow-ups on the table.

B) life as a touring pro sounds incredibly interesting to me. It takes a special person to dedicate one's self to being a touring disc golf pro. Making a decision to pursue a career that gets zero respect in our culture, that is buried in the margins of our society, and provides ABSOLUTELY ZERO SECURITY is an incredibly subversive thing to do and anyone who makes that decision I find inspirational and I'd love to hear them discuss their thoughts about that.

Of course pros don't have to answer any questions they don't want to. But why is even asking them off limits?

And why can't we even talk about anything juicy on podcasts, even w/o the pros on the line, just amongst the podcasters?

I didn't realize that the disc golf media gatekeepers were a bunch of schoolmarms.

I don't want a Harvey Levin of disc golf, necessarily. But I'll take a Bill Simmons of disc golf.

I think Terry Miller does a great job interviewing pros on Disc Golf Talk Radio. I always enjoy listening to the episodes where he's co-hosting.

I like the podcast these guys do http://discgolfshow.com/?p=1410
The audio quality is good and the diversity of the hosts make it pretty entertaining. The episode I posted features Gregg Barsbsy. He's an amazingly talented player and quite the comedian too. Give it a listen if you want some insight and a few laughs.

Because other people's personal lives aren't any damned business to those who want to listen in for no other purpose than entertainment.

That and the disc golf world is a small and fledgling community. Pretty much anyone who presents disc golf media is doing it to help advance the betterment of the sport and the business behind it. Trying to be the Perez Hilton of disc golf is kind of at odds with that.

And to add to that, podcasters don't want to compromise their ability to get guests. There's also nothing that says that pros have to take interview requests. If an interviewer is known for asking inappropriate questions that are off-topic, why bother answering his call?

 The whole office just asked what I was laughing about. when I shared, they even got a chuckle and know little to nothing about disc golf. Thanks for the laugh Whitey!

Yeah, I'm not looking for anything inappropriate or off-topic. Just looking for a level of interviewing closer to all other sports.

So true. We stay away from personal stuff because really it is none of our business!!
If you don't like it don't listen it really is as simple as that. I know I am not the best but terry does a great job and usually bails me out. I have fun with it and it has given me a chance to meet some some cool people be it only on the show. We try to talk to TD's on occasion and other people also. We have had chuck kennedy, Steve dodge and others. We have over 60 shows over the last couple years and a decent following.

I like hearing from the pros myself because it gives you a true insight into how the game should really be played. Generally if people ask questions I get to them. Sometimes not as many as I like but we usually hit on most of them if time allows.

We had Paul Mcbeth on last night and it was great. He really explained chair gate and also hit on a ton of other stuff. We ask most of the questions that people asked. Also we had Johne McCray which was also a lot of fun. Talked about #17 at the usdgc and bunch of stuff. We try not to cover the same thing over and over and do catching up shows just to see what they are up to.

Lastly is audio quality! I live in kentucky and terry lives in wisconsin. If we could be at the same table it would be great but alas that is not possible. I make no money from this. I don't ask for money or at least I don't push it any way. I do this from my family room at my house. It is what it is. Hopefully it will improve but right now I am having issues with my set up. I have been using my phone because I have yet to figure it out.

So as I said at the beginning if you don't like it then don't listen I surely won't miss you and I doubt the guests we have on will either. I love how disc golfers alway want the best but are so quick to criticize people when they are just trying to add to the sport. I have never claimed to be the best at it but hey atleast I am trying and not sitting on an internet forum whining about it.

I listen to a lot of sports talk radio. It's rare to hear an interview that goes for more than 5 to 10 minutes. After that there's really not much interesting to talk about.

Then shell out the big bucks because right now the podcasts out there are probably the best your going to get. Since I started in 2011 I have watched several come and go. Right now there are 3 that seem to be hanging on Disc golf talk radio, the disc golf show and the local route. I think some people just think it is easy to do but I can say that it is not. It is pain to get everyone on at the same time, especially what we do. Editing the audio when done. Ours is live and that is a whole other issue in itself.

These other interviewers have people that write the stuff for them. They have big huge studios and get paid the big bucks. When that happens in disc golf you may have your wish but when the world champ makes a few thousand dollars for winning our biggest tournament well you may be waiting a while.
