Just stumbled up this while watching a Jomez practice round, when I saw Calvin holding the disc like this:

It struck me how similar this looks to SW22 holding the cups, battering ram, and hammer.

After messing around with some drills, I realized that holding a disc like this forces you to use internal and external shoulder rotation to move the disc, and not your arm muscles. This is the key to levering the disc correctly, and it's the dragon many of us have been chasing for years.

Try holding the disc like this and slowly tracing the figure 8/rail line. You can start in the Feldberg battering ram position as well, just get hold a disc like this in each hand and let your arms dangle. Go SLOW, and notice how your arms rotate throughout this swing.

As far as translating this to a throwing grip…

Side note- this can also help with shoulder rotation/grip while putting. Check out Hammes putt

Now do it with a dumbbell.

I've actually been using a 3 lb dumbbell as a battering ram lately too, keeping the target facing end of the dumbbell towards the target as long as possible really. The lag is amazing. Not the same drill you're talking about but I like battering rams. Great pre-round warm up too

Also, it's impossible to follow through on any plane other than the plane you started on when you have a 3 lb dumbbell in your hand unless you're trying to hurt yourself. That's another big benefit I have found.

I watched this video this morning and it made me think of this post since it is a similar starting position.

Is it one disc with both hands or a disc in each hand?
