Stack is still around but doesnt play much. I think he only plays when he does speed rounds around Matthews/Monroe, NC at lunch time.

September 2008, the day after I played my first round. East Harbor SP with only a 148g DX Shark. #1779

There must have been a huge influx of new registries during that time.
Sep. '09, #7765 here.

I dont get it? Can you enlighten us toddler users o wise Three Putt?
UPM (which I think stood for Under Par Mikey) was a frequently banned member of the PDGA message board. However, he really wasn't a troll in the DGCR-sense of banned members. He's a real guy (whose name I forget, Mike Kernan maybe?) who was an active golfer in Louisiana? Someplace like that. Anyway, he had a beef with the PDGA and went on anti-PDGA tirades on the PDGA message board. Not surprisingly, the PDGA didn't care for that. So he got banned. A lot.

I don't really recall the details, though. I do remember he was running for the PDGA BoD and banned from the PDGA message board at the same time, which was epic. Pat Brenner was on the BoD and used to stir up the message board as well. It seemed like the PDGA didn't really have a handle on using social media, Brian Hoeniger was the PDGA Executive Director and he used to go on the message board and try to bully people. It was breathtakingly unprofessional, but the attacks he generally were responding to could get nasty and personal as well. It was a huge mess. We have had our moments here, but nothing as messy as the old PDGA message board.

It was all new, though. The Interwebz was new and people had to learn how to control all that flow of information and disinformation. I don't really fault the people involved, 'cause I was a pretty big-mouthed know-it-all in the Internet back then as well (even bigger than I am now, if you can believe that.) We all had to learn how to make this work.

He was only Two Putt back then.:D

I invented the PDGA message board. I always felt like I was an internet terrorist over there. People were so clueless about things and I felt that it was my responsibilty to set them straight. On this site it is the same at times to the 100th power so I usually just lurk. But there is also some useful info here so I bite my tongue and only call a small percentage of the people bad names.

I had a nice journey between sites... Lets see...
I think I joined the PDGA message boards as soon as I started golfing in the spring of 2005. They didn't make it members only until later that year. I joined the PDGA in something like September of 2005 since my membership would work across sites. In the winter of that year I started posting disc reviews on DGReview... I remember that they had a flaw in the system: you'd click a range of distances you were able to reach, but on the review it only only list the upper boundary. If I posted that I could throw in the 400-450 range because I'd managed a few hucks over 400... it showed up as "reviewer throws 450" - My friends gave me some **** for that one.

From there I focused mainly on occasional posts there and extensive posting on our local forums (Black Swamp Disc Golf Association, Toledo Area Disc Golf Association, and Mid-Ohio Organized Disc Golf - at the time I was in school and more active in BSDGA/MOODGolf territory as I lived near Ohio Northern University's course). I didn't join and become active on another national site until sometime in 2006/7 when the beloved and hated discgolfers.ning site, eventually Disc Golfers R Us (or something close to that), popped up. I posted quite extensively on there with a regular blog. But that faded over time, despite how neat and customizeable it was. If not for the slowness of load times I'd say it was one of the most feature-laden and fun sites out there.

After that I was siteless for a while, with a regularly used profile on DiscGolfScene but I didn't really become a part of the community. I've been posting my opinions here since about the start of 2010 on occasion (welcome or not, more often not - with my thoughts on things like those abysmal chartreuse shirts and things of that nature). It was at that point that I spent a month living with my sister and posted most of my reviews out of sheer boredom.

And from that point on - I've mostly posted here. DGScene still is used extensively for practical purposes, but this is the site I go to to browse the opinions of the general masses.

He's probably up to five putt by now.

At that point aren't we really counting upshots? :|

I was banned at least for a short period of time from the pdga boards back around 05 or 04. I can't remember why, but I think it involved me asking a question about PDGA finances or something that struck a nerve.

I was much more a turd back then though, so I'm sure I was instigating a bit as well.

It is funny you mention that. I dealt with Brian recently regarding an issue I had with sanctioning an event and I came away from our exchange in disbelief that the response I got could be so unprofessional. It irritated me enough that I do not think I will run anymore PDGA sanctioned events.

....And all us relative newcomers would like to thank you all for putting up with all of the crap we bring to the table!

Stop lurking. Step into the light lol

RE: DGR. I remember when timg posted on DGR that he was starting this site, but I skimmed the thread and didn't actually join for about a month. Jaysus, Tim_the_Enchanter, Fritz and thatdirtykid must have all joined right away when timg posted because they are 8,11,12 and 18.

FWIW, #2 (cayuga) has logged in this year. Whoever it is does not post and does not review courses, but they seem to still use the site a little.

Looking at that list is kinda weird. I remember lots of user names of people who used to post. It makes me wonder if they stopped playing disc golf or just stopped posting.

Even before DGR, the PDGA message board was the original wild west of anonymous Interwebz asshatery. Anybody who was on the early PDGA message board who is still posting on disc golf message boards needs a mental health evaluation. :|

i was active in the disc golf newsgroup before the pdga forum existed. newsgroup was practically our only way to stay up to date on event schedules etc. i don't disagree with your assessment of mental health evaluations.
