Alright guys, I'm semi-new around Colorado I just moved here from Arizona to have a better outdoor lifestyle :D. Anyways, I got a catalog in the mail recently from foothills park and recreation for their summer catalog. My wife was looking through and saw a small headline about helping design or installing a new dg course at fehringer ranch park, NE corner of W Quincy ave and S Simms st, which isn't to far from me at all. They said it will be a new 18 hole course and if you would like to volunteer to help design or install, call Sean Kitners (303) 409-2303. They said it would be completed in 2013 with help of volunteers. I know I'm gonna call up and help out and meet new disc golfers out there!

Wow, good news for Denver area DG'rs. I would be all over this if I still lived in the area. Hopefully, they will seek out some of the knowledgable design guys in the area. There's a lot of variables to think about when it comes to proper course design. Good luck!

Yeah I agree, I want to meet up with other dg'ers in the area. Also I put this up because I want the park to have a good proper course than most in the sw Denver region. I hope it turns out well:thmbup:

A good way to meet up with other DG players in your area would be to check out Mile High Disc Golf Club. They probably have some low-key weekly events going on like random doubles, etc. where you can get your foot in the door to meeting other people to throw with. Good luck!

Information about Fehringer Ranch Project

Hello and welcome to Foothills Park & Recreation District! We are a special district agency serving the park and recreation needs of our 90,000+ residents located in unincorporated Jefferson County, Colorado. Our residents (tax-payers) reside in areas of Littleton, Lakewood, Denver and Morrison. Our parks and facilities are open to everyone.

In regards to the project you're referring to, we received a local parks grant from Jefferson County Open Space this year to build a new 18 hole disc golf course at Fehringer Ranch Park, located on the NE Corner of West Quincy Ave. and South Simms St. The course will be completed with the help of volunteers in 2013. If you wish to help volunteer to help design and/or install the course, please contact Sean Kitners at (303) 409-2303. The project is not yet underway, but Sean is definitely taking interested participants information to contact when the project begins.

In the meantime, we do have a 9-hole disc golf course located about 2 miles away from the future site. The disc golf course currently open is part of the Schaefer Athletic Complex located at the corner of Kipling and HWY 285 (Hampden) - http://www.ifoothills.org/parks_schaefer_AC.asp.

Mile High Disc Golf Club is a good resource for you to use in Colorado! http://www.mhdgc.org/

If there is anything more Sean or I can do for you, don't hesitate to contact us.

Hello Kate,
Great to see there is a new disc golf course in the works in Foothills. Disc golf fits in so well with the Colorado outdoor lifestyle, and will enhance your P&R Dept.
I used to live in the area and return often to visit family and friends, and I always hit up a few DG courses when in town. I've played Schaefer many times, and although it's a good beginner course, it leaves a little to be desired by more seasoned players. Hopefully, the new course will be well-designed and offer more challenge to players that have taken the next step. I will look forward to playing it.
Good luck to all involved!

I'm bumping this thread to see if anyone knows of any progress on this project.

bump - requested more information from FH P&R today. Anyone else heard any news?

Man, I haven't heard a peep about this on this forum or anywhere else since this thread was first posted. Compared to alot of other parts of the country, the Denver area, with a couple of exceptions, is seriously lacking in quality courses, and is really behind the times. :wall:

Actually got a call from Sean (project manager) after I sent off a email. Looks like there are plenty of volunteers & it may start in fall.

Still not expecting much but I'm willing to help & they seems to be open to everyone's opinion.

Meet the parks and rec representative on site this Sunday May 4th from 11am-3pm to give your input on the course design.

Course installation/work day follows soon after May 10th.

Please PM me if you'd like more details.

DRod, good to see you're still after this...I can't believe it's been 2 years since this was first proposed.

Wait a minute, I guess i'm not that surprised. :wall:

:D

It's close to my house so I got in touch with P&R soon after I found this post. It's taken them a while but they've kept me updated when needed. I'm looking forward to volunteering.

Drod- Thankyou for spearheading the communications! I can't believe it's been 2 years, I wonder how the grant money works out. Is there no Timetable for building the course?

Hi Krisnosti, all I know is that today is a planning day. A chance to met with the project manager from Parks and Rec out at the course location.

Next is a volunteer work day May 10th 2014 with a local church group. They plan to frame and pour tee boxes and install baskets. Tools will be needed and it will all be done using volunteers.

Anyone is welcome to contact Foothills park and rec (early in thread) to get more information. I plan on volunteering and was hoping my post would encourage others to do the same.

I hope to see you out there!

This is a step in the right direction, for sure. I just hope they understand the design process, and have knowledgable people on that front. It's usually better to place the baskets first, then seeing how it plays a bit before setting the final position of the tees, as they are more difficult to move, once placed. Good luck, and i'll be looking forward to playing it once it's in.

The course is being installed this Saturday May 10th with the help of a church group. The project manager has worked with this group in the past and estimates they will be about 100 strong. I'm really hoping some of you can dedicate some time to volunteering this Saturday as well! Please let me know if you can make it and I'll get you in touch with the proper people. If every thing goes well the course could be open to play as early as next week, it's really up to us!

Tee boxes are in along with most of the tee sign posts. Holes for pins are dug, we just need to set them in some concrete. There's a bit of a freak snow storm blowing through today and Monday so we are hoping that the pins can be in sometime this week. Hopefully it'll be ready to play by next weekend.

The course needs Help!

If you can donate a little time this week to helping finish the course, It would be greatly appreciated. Holes need to be dug and Cement needs to be mixed....Hoping to get a big turnout for a Saturday workday and possible tournament the following day, provided that the course is ready. contact info is [email protected]
