I don't go to Fort Worth often and now that it is cooling down some, I'm thinking about taking a day trip. I want to play the last two decent/good courses in the metroplex, Weatherford & Greenbrier. If I can get the wife to go along with the idea, I'm thinking about knocking out most of the other courses I haven't played. I'm here, asking for help with my itinerary. I've got drive times off google maps but I'm not sue about how long each course would take to play. I'm also depending on the drive time giving us recovery time so we don't get beat down half way through the day. I'm guessing it will take 3 people 45 minutes to play the 9 hole courses blind.

Leave home in Plano to arrive at WO Harrington around sunrise 7:00. 45 min round
30 min to Tommy & Sue Brown 6 hole course 8:15. 30 min round
20 min to Haslet 9:15. 45 min round
25 min to Willow Creek 10:25 45 min round
10 min to Eagle 7 hole 11:20 40 min round
40 min to Weatherford 12:40. 2 hour round
30 min to Greenbrier 3:20 2 hour round.
This leaves me done and ready for the hour drive home by 5:30.

This adds up to over 4 hours of driving and 76 holes of golf.

Questions:
Do my round times work?
Drive times close enough for Saturday traffic?
Good place for lunch & a beer on my rout?
What courses aren't mowed? I'm not planning on looking for a disc for 20 minutes.
Which courses aren't cart friendly?

Any thoughts, suggestions? I realize these courses aren't the greatest, I'm ok with that as long as they are playable. I'm shooting for this weekend but that probably will not happen.

Depending on your speed of play, Tommy Brown will take more like 15-20 (always clean and neat condition). The holes are 150-200. Very quick. Good warm up for your day. Drive time to haslet is more like 30 minutes...there are a lot of lights in between there.( depending on your route) Game play for haslet is about right. grass is usually mowed. there are some bushes/plants in the creek that could reach up and grab a disc...so ya know...don't throw it in the bushes.

drive time to willow creek is more like 15-20minutes. should be pretty quick. it is usually very windy and kinda boring honestly. sometimes mowed, if i remember i think sometimes the reeds are grown up in the creek, so watch out. gameplay is about 45 again.

Green briar will take around 2 hours. layout is a little confusing but you should be able to figure it out with common sense. creek on many holes with lots of rough to lose a disc in. careful there. also, you will be throwing over a pond if you're playing the longs, fyi.

Sounds like a blast. hope you have fun!

There's about a million restaurants to choose from in between all these courses.

last i heard eagle 7 hole has a missing basket and and unplayable.
i think its down to 5. you may want to investigate so you don't waste your time.

Thanks. Willow Creek & Eagle Ranch are out.

wow, see i was thinking eagle ranch was the only one of your 9 holers worth going to. tom and sue brown is not close enough to the freeway to even bother, you'll be driving off the freeway longer than it will take to play it. willow creek may still be missing a lot of baskets, im not sure, haslett is completly useless.

eagle ranch doesnt have many holes but it was designed by john houck and is the only 9 holer on your list that is interesting, you can just play it two or three times....it would be lovely if they added more holes, but its still so far away from anything it would hardly ever get played. but it has some nice lake views and the first hole alone is worth the drive....then you just get back on 820 and on to weatherford....

per the last update on this site, both willow creek and eagle ranch both are missing two baskets. I trust your judgment though, I may just scrap the plan an play Weatherford & Greenbriar. Or I could just wait for Ray's discin for a cure event in Weatherford and play Greenbriar and the Z.

weatherford is pretty cool, worth the drive. but if you are going to play the nines just to check them off the list than do it, just dont skip eagle ranch, cause its the neatest one.

willow creek isnt far off the freeway, but haslett and sue brown are. so those are the two that i might reconsider if you decide to cut something, but i think it would be cool if you played them all and padded that played list. thats why im going to be coming up and having you escort me to shawnee even though you absolutley hate that course ;)

I'll be in the DFW area in about a month for work. Am hoping to get in 3 or 4 courses while I'm in town. Since it looks like yall have a bazillion courses in the area, I was hoping to get some locals insight as to which courses were the "can't miss" ones. I also prefer technical wooded courses to open power courses.

Any info is appreciated.

Z-boaz,Veterans,arcadia and bear creek are a must in the ft worth area.If you don't mind a little extra driving you should think about going to cedar hill and playing the two courses at Lestor Lorch park.

I would add Crowley to that list. weatherford is not worth the trip.

giles-z boaz is a beating for am guys like myself. no matter what pin position it is a challenging course with a good amount of walking. its worth it if you can swing it. i haven't played weatherford but hear that its cool.

giles and magilicutty-i would suggest gateway park in fort worth(probably the hardest course in DFW)...haven't played em all don't shoot me. It's a bear. crowley is south of fort worth and may make your drive time longer for the day but its a great course with 3 tees per hole.

Arcadia is a POS course. Way overrated on this site.

Gateway is hard, very very hard. It has a lot of work left to be done. The Funky Town Flyers have a work day soon in prep for a Twisted Flyer tournament but IMO you would need to hire a professionall crew with equipment to get that course close to in good shape.

Crowley just has some fool run over about 6 baskets with a truck. I don't know if they are fixed yet but I would expect it to be taken care of soon.

Lester Lorch in Cedar Hill is the best in DFW. Other than that it just depends what side of town you are on.

Wallace, I've played all the "good" courses in DFW. I played the last 9 hole on my side of town recently and was thinking about hitting all the Fort Worth ones. None of them warrent the drive alone so I'm thinking about making a day of it.

Amen. Northpark is sweet if you can find your way around first time out

Northpark isn't too hard to navigate for an experianced golfer. You have to keep an eye out for the "painted spoke" on the baskets to point you in the right direction for the next hole.

Like that fine Int. player, sorry. You are right if you play to the right basket and you can use the stars correctly to find the dirt pads spread throughout the park

I have decided to play Z-boaz and the 2 at Cedar Hill on my one full day in DFW. Not sure when I'll be done working, but are there any minis on Thursday or Friday? Believe I will be staying in the Carrolton area.

Also, not sure how bad your rush hour traffic is, but hypotheticaly (sp?) if I left Carrolton at 4:00pm on a weekday, would it be possible to get in a round at Lake Lewisville before dark?

I have played those courses and you just can't go wrong with them. Z boaz is freakin awesome and Cedar Hill is just as good. Not quite sure if you can fit those two in on Cedar Hill on time. Lots of trees and thus low canopy that will block out a lot of light. Maybe bring some LEDs for your disc and a flashlight. Have fun!

Traffic in normally very bad going North on 35 but you should be able to get to Lake Park and get a round in in the daylight.
