The latest review for Idlewild was a 1 star because the reviewer felt the course was too tough.

I do not feel the rating is fair and is not at all consistent with the previous ratings that Idlewild was given.

If you were to equate toughness of play against the standard of a quality course, then very few championship level courses would ever get a good rating. There are no hidden monsters at Idlewild. You step up to the tee and arrive at your best plan of action. It is up to you to implement the plan. Idlewild has kicked my butt a few times. But I always feel respect for the course. If I leave Idlewild with my butt kicked, I know that I missed some opportunities. I should judge myself not the course.

If you were to compare dg courses with ball golf courses, Idlewild would be the Augusta National (home of the Masters). Obviously Augusta National is a very tough course. That should not be a strike against whether or not it is a good course. Same with Idlewild.

here we go again lol jk. there was a nice big discussion about this already.

Augusta National though?? Have you ever played Milo McIver?

Even though we KNOW that they both are not legit, only 1 of the admitted in their review that they were giving it a lower rating than it deserves because they want it out of the top 10. Of course only a fool would assume that they did not discuss their rating with each other since they both just happened to give it the same sore...I mean score. They are like young Jedi that are in training from Obi Wan. Of course THEIR Obi Wan is RedneckMachismo.:mad::wall::sick::sick:

Yeah, I think the other 1 disc should be removed too. I wonder how many PMs that guy has gotten from angry Idlewilders. Maybe someone can reason with him to raise his rating...

I have never rated idlewild because people would get on me for being a HBB but this here is bull. Yea Idlewild will beat you down does me all the time but it your a real man you should be able to handle it. At least Dave 242 gave his honest opinion this guy here is just a wuss!!! I guess I will now rate it and give it a five because if someone can do this then this whole rating system is bogus!!!You give it a one because your not good enough to play the course WAH!! WAH!! WAH!!!!! I mostly play boone woods but every once in a while I take the plunge and be a man and get my ass kicked at idlewild just to keep me honest!!!!!!

The course is only rated so high because of Stockholm syndrome.

"I love tough courses. I have always loved tough courses"

You might also be familiar with saying these phrases.

"No officer, my disc just happen to hit that tree. The course didn't do anything."

"It was my fault, I was asking for it by going for that line"

"Sometimes I have to be taught good course management. I forget about it sometimes but Idlewild reminds me because it loves me."

Rating a course lower because of its difficulty is wrong, but it is also wrong to an extent to give it positive credit for difficulty.

Idlewild has very little that would take it above Coyote Point at Lake Casitas, Meyer Broadway Original or even Mason County Beast as far as scenery, hole/land quality, and amenities. Flip City and Lincoln Ridge actually beat it, and I'd guess that the best Highbridge course would as well.

The thing that really helps multiple course sites; like High Bridge, in the ratings department (and, I personally think it should; though I understand rating courses on a course by course basis), is that there are courses at High Bridge to accommodate a number of skill levels. Gold, at High Bridge, is tough; but not narrow wooded tough. The easiest course there (not counting the little one by the entrance); is Woodland Greens. This is the one there that has narrow, wooded fairways; but is relatively short, compared to the others. Blueberry gets the highest rating, because it's doable for most blue level players, and yet, is still a great course. Granite Ridge is a big arm course. Gold is both big armed and tough. Add the fact in, that the little course, Chesnut Grove, is lighted for night play; and the complex, as a whole, is outstanding. Much the same can be said for Lemon Lake. Paw Paw also gets lots of points for having two courses and outstanding atmosphere; much like Idlewild seems to.

Seriously, have you ever heard of the search function? How retarded are all of you?!

Idlewild - Love it or hate it.

I just wanted to post a couple of comments on Idlewild since I was reviewing Holler in the Hills.

1. Idlewild was designed for the professional disc golfer in mind. If you don't have what it takes to play Idlewild, why punish the course and the design of the course because you don't have the game to play it. Most of you are basing the review on how you play the course. Even I hate it sometimes but take a look around, enjoy the beauty of what has been done here. It's not the rockies or the west coast but it's got a beauty of its own. Enjoy it.

2. Idlewild is the only course in the top 10 that has a 1 rating and is still in the top 4. One of them even has dirt tee pads. Idlewild has 6 foot by 16 foot pads. The best tee signs money can't buy. Tee signs are sponsored by fellow hall of famers and graphics donated by "Houck Design".

3. Idlewild is rated 4th, played 2nd, reviewed 2nd(10 less than Flip and 23 more than 3rd) and Favorited 3 more than Flip and 26 more than third. No other course is rated that high in all the catagories. That should count for something.

4. Boone county parks won Park dept of the year in 2009 in Kentucky. Did Idlewld have anything to do with it. Not sure but it didn't hurt to have it on the top 10 on this website since this website originated. It bring people to Kentucky and the parks dept knows it, that is why they maintain it so well. We do our best to do our part as well.

5. Idlewild may not be a 5 but it's definetely not a 1 or even 3.5. Appalachian beauty it may not have but it's got everything else.

5. Optidisc, I own the pro shop at Mt Airy. You're welcome.

haters gonna hate.:\

who cares what some yokal rated it? i mean does that make YOU think its any less of a course? ratings and reviews are completely subjective. short of the review breaking the established rules, dont expect that rating/review to come down.

Sad to say, but the fact that people like this Paulychains and Hitmetal can review courses really brings this site down :(

I have played Idlewild, unlike the majority of people commenting on it. I have played Community Park, in Channahon, where these reviewers are from. They are trolls, and must be ignored.

Having come from Michigan and played the course twice, I really think anything less than a 4.0 rating for Idlewild is truly unfair. Class leading tee pads, great signs, and signature holes 11 and 15 elevate this course near the top, even if Lincoln Ridge and Flip are wayyyy more fun.
