Looking to clean up my form [400']

Hello everyone!

I've been lurking for the past two years here and there but now is the time I get involved, reading about others can only get me so far it seems!

I've been playing now for just about 3 years in Sweden, I generally throw between 400-430' BH on golf lines with Emperors, my Buzzzes around 330' +- or so and Envy a touch shorter but sometimes it flies just as far. My official distance record is 154m 505' during an Allround event this spring but that was just stupid wind lines and running, but really fun!

I've been a form nerd since the early days of my "career" but It's been a confusing ride with all the information available online, the contradictions and so on. I was a follower of Spin & Throw but have since understood that it's not fully right.

I've commited to an early off-season and to go all-in to get better form, something I haven't done before. I'm looking for help on getting better, cleaner and more "correct" form. I feel like my timing is off, I tend to fire too early, I may spin too much. Also I feel like I'm still pulling the disc to an extent.

I have some videos I filmed yesterday, some throws are slow-mo some are not in the same clip. There's regular run-up and my take on the hammer drill throw/one steps as well as a towel video. In all videos I'm throwing Buzzzes, the idea is a slight hyzer but my biggest issue this year is I've begun throwing anhyzer accidentally. So much so some new friends I've made this summer calls me Nikko. Odd after having lived the #hyzerfliplife for almost 3 years.

I hope someone can give me some direction! Please and thank you.

1. Stance/posture. In standstill not a big fan of starting feet together like that, looks pigeon toed and anterior pelvic tilt. In your xstep your knees hit each other and you are far too over your toes.

2. Left arm. Bend your elbow into your hip.

Thank you Seabas for the feedback!

I watched the videos and decided for today to focus on not beeing too over the toes. Is this change towards the better?

My left arm is so ingrained and nothing I ever think about so I decided to try and stick it in my pocket to not have it do anything.. There's clearly lots to work on but I'll try and do it step by step.

Do you think I rotate too much in the reach back? Something about my legs feel funky when I compare to pros. Also the xstep, I feel a bit restrained.. hmm I have to experiment with it.

Thanks for your help!

It's your posture/balance and motion pattern. It's going to feel quite different/weird changing this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogonOY1DoHU#t=40m

Note how your knees are far apart and rear femur is angled over \ and pelvis tilted anteriorly and spine extended like a banana or C. It's like your front leg is rejecting your body as your posture bows back away from it.

Paul's posture is doing the opposite sitting deeper into the rear hip with the pelvis in posterior tilt and spine slightly flexed. His front leg has accepted his body as his posture bows into it and pivots.

I don't recommend hand in pocket it tends to let the elbow fly out from the body. You need to "chunk" practice the elbow to hip motion pattern/skill, or hold a beverage and don't spill it. X-step doesn't really help learn this. Takes about 3 weeks of practice to learn new motor skill. You can/should practice this without throwing just like I showed.

Thanks man I deeply appreciate it!

I'll be going over it all this week and update in time.

Today I've been throwing the hammer a bunch. I can definitely feel more of a brace and some throws it feels pretty clean. But watching the footage I have no idea what is happening to my torso, I still hold the hammer and my arm to torso angle is nigh on sub 90 before the hammer flies. Don't know if that's me playing it safe to not injure myself because it's not that horrific when I throw a disc in a similar way. But looks really weird.

The disc throws in the last video was just me trying to do spike hyzers that sort of tried to feel the hammer throw.

I don't know if this is something that's stuck with me since spin & throw but I feel like my torso is just spinning around itself. Comparing myself to Eagle here and it's pretty jarring.

I should probably revisit the load the bow video. I'm just having a hard time since basically every aspect of my throw needs changing bad. Any suggestion of a step by step order? I've been reading and watching so much of what's posted here it all just becomes a blur after a while :wall:

Thanks!

1. You are holding the hammer backwards.

2. Stop trying to kill the hammer/disc. Should be relaxed effortless toss and release!

3. Note how I get centered/balanced on front leg in the hammer swings/one leg drill. This will probably feel very weird and over the top to you getting up on the front hip.

4. Note how much further my shoulder swings, from foot to foot. And my shoulders stay closed to target much longer, shifting forward from behind before rotating. Your shoulders/body is spinning out early before you shift.

Alright it's off-season and it's time to dust off this thread and start a bit simple with upshots (50m) and some one-leg throws. I find with the way I do upshots now it's helped me use my arm in a way I've come to understand is more correct (Beto/Jaani teachings). The arm is something I basically got scared of using from all the "don't strong arm" so it basically became dead weight and likely why I started spinning so much just to get the arm moving. So my focus now is to not open my shoulders too early (probably still do), get deeper in the pocket and let the arm eject from the pocket.

The one-leg was a spur of the moment "oh right lets try that thing" just to see how it feels now, felt awful when I tried it during the first sessions in this thread. Now feels much better but definitely work in progress. I'm going to be doing more of them tomorrow and focus on shorter distances (unless the football nets are free), I did them from 100' and 200' just to experiment today.

Any feedback is much appreciated!

SS - your shoulder is never loaded back behind the hip stride like bow and arrow. I would also stride the front foot forward like 6-12" during the backswing. Door Frame/Bow Arrow drills should help.

OLD - You need to let the rear heel come down during backswing so the weight pressure moves counter clockwise and the COG/M moves in a counter clockwise circle as well.
