So today I was playing a round with a friend and had a weird putt where we couldn't decide on the rule call. I landed a putt on top of the basket, but the metal on the top of the basket was open enough and the disc fell through and landed inside the chains. Most baskets aren't open enough for this to happen so we were wondering what the call is.

if it fell through the top then it is not in. if it fell off the top edge and into the basket then yes.

From Rule 803.13 (3)(B): "A disc observed by two or more players of the group or an official to have entered the target below the top of the tray or above the bottom of the chain support is not holed out."

So I take this to mean that your shot does not count as holing out.
