Right Pec drill question

I've watched the MrBeato Right Pec drill more times than I care to mention. I feel like I'm not getting any power doing the right pec drill. What is an ideal distance I should be throwing these discs before I start adding steps, and a reachback? I'm throwing all midrange discs.

Another question with the pec drill. When I start to throw, what is the order of rotation? Does my elbow start then shoulders then hips? Or hips, elbow shoulders?

Have you done the hammer pound (secret technique) drills yet? That video was made before those drills existed. What I do is do the hammer pound drills to get the feel right and then do the right pec drill until you figure out how to throw that way while getting the strongest hammer pound. After you get some sort of proficiency in that (250'+ with a mid) you can start adding the reach back and steps. After you get that done you can see where you're at and decide if you want to work more on figuring out snap or if you're happy with how you're throwing. You just have to be willing to start over if you decide you want to throw farther. That actually gets easier the more times you do it so it's not as grueling the second and third time around.

FWIW, you can search around DGR and find out what type of work Dan put into throwing far. IIRC, it was like a couple hours each day for a few weeks before he was past the right pec drill. He put an insane amount of work into learning to throw like that and that's generally the only way to get it done if you want that type of D.

I've seen the hammer pound, and read the instructions, but I was still a little fuzzy. I'll have to go back and re-read the hammer pound post and watch the videos again. When I'm pounding the hammer, this seems opposite of how I'm throwing a disc, is this correct?

Yes, it will start off in the opposite direction. It's much easier to feel the "hammer pound" (getting the feel for manipulating the weight of the disc) in the forehand direction. You then do some drills to help you get that same feeling horizontally (like a forehand shot) and then some to get the feeling in the backhand direction. Once nice thing is that a byproduct is that it teaches you a passable forehand shot that works for midrange and shorter shots. It's all based around getting that feeling of the disc feeling like a hammer and maintaining that from one drill to the next. You'll have to make little adjustments each time to get that feeling. You don't have to have someone telling you what you're doing wrong because you'll know it's wrong if you can't feel the hammer pound.

In addition to the above advice this drill is a little more intuitive:

I actually did a search for Brad Walker's videos and got a good idea of what I'm doing wrong. Between those videos and how you have explained the hammer pound, I've realized i'm not feeling the weight of the disc like I should.

I'm going to hit the field this afternoon after some hammer pounds and see if I can see some improvement. Thanks for the help!

Edit to add: ^^^^^^^ This video was the drill I was originally searching for!!!

Georgia rain kept me inside. I did do the hammer pound drills and could feel the weight of the disc pretty nicely. Hopefully the rain will let up today and I can get some field work in.
