Speed Frolf

So a stroke and a minute count the same? What is a typical time to complete a round this way, on say a white or a red level course? Do people turn in under 20 minute times, or is 30-40 more common?

As I probably mentioned on one of the threads I linked to, we once did a speed round on Circle R - Rolling Meadow (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=664). 7000 feet, par 63, SSA 57ish, 2 miles actual distance measured by aerial photo. My brother ran 20:31 and shot 73. I ran 23:13 and shot 64.

Another data point is Elon Short (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=3036). 3300 feet (short tees), par 54, SSA 41ish, 1 mile actual distance. I have run 11:07 shooting 49. Again, I run about a 9-minute/mile pace. Another guy I know can probably run close to a 7-minute mile, and he ran an 8:57 and shot 50. He also did Renny Gold (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=587 -- 9400 feet, par 70, SSA 69ish, 2.65(?) miles actual distance) in 26:20 shooting 77.

By the way, I personally don't buy into the 1 shot = 1 minute stuff. For me, time is time. That's it. Number of strokes doesn't matter. The common thought among me and my friends is that extra shots slows you down enough -- you don't need any kind of "time penalty".

Fred Salaz (in the DG HOF, designed Idlewild) is trying to get speed golf going in Cincy. He has come up with a formula that he is using to post some scores. Here is an excerpt from his initial post on the idea...

Three discs max allowed, you must finish with two discs. Start stop watch as soon as you tee off and stop as soon as you putt out. You must putt out on every hole, no slapping the chains on drop ins. Play course rules, ob's and such.
Here is how you keep your score. Keep track of your score and time. Multiply your score by .55 and add it to your time to come up with your score. For example I have played AJ Jolly and Idlewild and here are the scores I have come up with. At AJ Jolly I shot a 48 and ran it in 25:43. Multiply 48 by .55(the number used in Self caught flight for Throw run and catch, check wfdf.org) and you get 26.4. Add 25.43 to 26.4 and you get 51.83. So my score for AJ Jolly is 51.83. I ran Idlewild today and shot a 67 from the longs(playing the "real course ob rules") in a time of 30 minutes and 17 seconds. Score wise it comes to 67 x .55 = 36.85 +30.17 = 67.02
.

IDK, just the thought of running Idlewild makes me tired...
