That was my thinking - but apparently not the case.

I think I let mine cool too much in the pan. I think there was some settling on mine and that's what caused the gooey sticky leftover residue. It comes off easy enough with hot water.
 
My guess is close to yours then if you didn't use intensifier. I think you heated it up too much and let it cool too long. As soon as I see steam I shut off the heat and drop it in, gently of course ;) I had this problem a couple times and what happens is the dye forms almost a film on the surface that you can't see in the darker colors. I noticed it in my batch of orange when I first used it because the color wasn't coming out so I added more heat. Created little islands of gooey dye, but like you they just wiped away pretty easily.
 
Thanks Dan .There is a local tourney and that is the piece i entered. I was looking through your album .Some nice stuff in there .
