Make sure you check in, they don't mind you playing the course as long as you check in with the desk so they know who is on the property. There is a donation box for the camp in the lobby, I threw $10 donation because I appreciate being allowed to play and wanted to contribute.

The front 9 holes start from near the office and throw around the different camp amenities they have.

These are what you would expect to see when playing a church camp course. Unfortunately, several of the holes come awfully close to other camp amenities. If they are in use, that holes is unplayable. But playing on a week day during school, I had the whole place to myself.

Hole 9 does finish behind the main camp buildings. You could stop here for a simple 9 hole course. The back 9 plays totally different.

The back 9 is more open and uses the hills behind the main buildings. Some of the fairways on these holes are mowed with defined fairways. These holes also tend to be longer. I pulled out my drivers for these.

I think I got surprised when I got to hole 13 and it was over 400ft. it was downhill and other than a couple of tree's early on the hole, wide open. I actually got a good rip on this one and had a putt on my drive.

14 is a blind hole throwing over the hill. Tough to play the first time because you have no idea where to throw and you don't want to land in the high grass because you will be looking forever for your disc.

And for the best hole on the course and just flat out good hole for any course. Hole 16 is a fantastic disc golf hole. You tee off from the top of the hill with a few maintenance buildings on the right and the hill sloping down on your left. This one also clocks in at 435ft but the fairway is a lot harder to judge with several smaller trees and the sideways slope. This hole is also the only hole with a newer, heavy duty basket. You do not want to be left down the hill, the rough looked thick. GREAT risk reward hole.

Then there is hole 18. The sign lists this as over 300ft, but it looked like they may have moved the basket closer. It's still a crazy shot down the road. Cut it too tight or skip too far left and your in the thick brush or down the hill. I simply laid up across the road and then threw an upshot to the basket. Hard to throw a blind hole like this blind.

Would I play here again? Actually yes. It's a decent camp course that I actually had fun throwing. It has several technical short shots and a few bombers thrown in. For a player like me, I enjoyed my round. Of course I wish there were tee pads and better baskets. But I did have fun throwing for aces.

That is why the 3 1/2 stars. It's not a 4 star course. but it's better than you would expect.

Heartland has 18 holes that spread throughout the campus playing very unique from one another and never really boring.

Every tee has a full color sign with accurate distance and a decent map.

Some interesting elevation throughout.  Hole 1 is a simple backhand except it's a two-story drop in elevation to the pin with the potential to skip way past.  Holes 12-16 are the other big ones, steep uphills on 12 and 15, long downhills on 13 and 16, and 14 plays over a hill then down, but you have to stop short of the treeline.  Easily the course's best feature, which makes its best holes.

Navigation is simple, just look for the tree stump cut off at an angle nearby which has the next tee sign on it.  All but one can be seen from the previous basket.  Along with this each basket has a next tee sign hanging from the bottom of the basket, although some of them aren't positioned correctly.

The baskets were the best single-chain baskets I've ever played on.  Had no issues with putts sliding through or spitting out off the pole.  Maybe I just hit 18 lucky putts, but the chains seemed to be stiffer than most single-chain baskets which helped significantly. Obviously not the best baskets, but they didn't become a complaint.  And 16 is randomly a triple-chain basket.  Maybe the maintenance man likes to practice putt so he re-did the basket closest to his shed.

The course is situated on a campground, so there's just a lot of other crap around.  Playing over roads seven times and next to or toward them a further five.  Playing close to several buildings, the pool fence, the maintenance trash heap, and hole 4 going through the outdoor chapel/basketball court.  The sign shows you're supposed to play around it, but no mandos are given to force it.  Hole 18's green is inaccessible if cars are parked in the wrong spot.

Grass tees are not ideal especially in areas that will be collecting the rain (7, 9, 15, 17).  Luckily the course isn't traversed very often so there aren't dirt patches worn in yet.

Some poor hole design, Hole 3's bushes have grown together so whatever tiny gap used to be there is gone and going over the bushes is the only option, Hole 7 is a ridiculous dogleg which needs to almost come backwards after beating the gap to get close to the pin, Hole 10 plays as a massive rhbh spike hyzer, which really isn't in the repertoire of most summer campers; and even if you beat the first tree, there's a second treeline blocking the pin.  17 is a blind right finishing shot over a berm which is impossible to gauge without walking halfway up the fairway.  A lot of clunky hole design along with kinda forcing the course in where it probably shouldn't have been.

Several baskets are leaning/damaged, and some of the basket signage is damaged or missing (13 had been chopped in half, probably by a disc, some next tee arrows hanging by one end).

Hole 18.  It would be a fine hole design having to beat the corner then try to get toward the pin, but it plays over the busiest road on the property and a large portion of the parking lot!  It's a fun hole, but you have to check every possible angle a car could be heading before throwing.

Don't forget to sign in at the office.  Enter the camp, keep to the right, then go into the office and sign in.  After that, go back and park in the lot you passed on the way up to the building.  Hole 1 is toward the back end

If I had a word for this course, it would be clumsy (as you could probably guess by the title).  It's not sloppy, it was worked on well and is maintained nicely, but the design of several holes was extremely poor and a lot of holes are stuck in where they don't need to be (3-7, 9, 17, 18).  It's nice for Parkville to have an 18-hole option that the camp allows to be played for free (and closes during the busy summer) but it definitely could have been done better as a 9 or even 12-hole.  It's a fun course, but nothing to keep coming back to.

Heartland now has a Disc Golf course situated around their campground. It is on a pretty nice piece of property, and makes a pretty quick round with decent signage and next-tee indicators at every basket - and the tees are pretty easy to find anyway.

Hills are used pretty well and provide a decent challenge on several holes. Distance control is important a few times, and side slopes make for some tricky lines and one skip shot opportunity.

There are a few holes that stand out in a good way. All of 11-13 is pretty solid, and hole 16 would be a good hole on any course because it is long, downhill, and has enough trees to block a few lines. 1 and 8 were also pretty interesting due to the slopes, rollaway potential, and shape of the fairway.

The tee pads are natural and some will get muddy easily. Mud is an issue at many points on the course, especially on the hillsides. The baskets only have one layer of chains.

The course was clearly trying to avoid the rest of the camp infrastructure, but in many cases, that didn't go so well. Several holes play dangerously near or even over some roads, so any amount of traffic will make significant parts of the course unusable. A pavilion is in the way on hole 4.

Several holes have a really odd shape. Holes 10 and 18 play way WAY left around some trees in a pretty unreasonable fashion. The green of 10 is cool, but a different tee placement would have been better. There's some woods off to the side where some better holes could be placed, but it would require more work and upkeep.

Half the course felt like filler holes to me. Some holes were just pretty flat, maybe by a road. Very likely, a nine hole course could have been better than the finished product we got, and would have avoided existing roads and buildings much better.

This course isn't a destination course by any means, and while every hole has at least something exciting about it, there are enough downsides that prevent this course from becoming really good. Fortunately, it plays pretty quickly as long as there isn't anything else going on that would get in your way.

As the course info says, there are times when the course is not available. Obviously, stay away during those times, but if you want to come here, it may be hard to find a good time depending on the time of year. To that end, this course is pretty casual and decently fun, but it doesn't have a whole lot else going for it.
