Morden Park

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 1, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

-- Map with distances and other helpful information on site.
-- Easy navigation. You'll not only likely see the next tee from the previous basket, but you also have mowed paths to follow.
-- Quality Innova baskets.
-- Disc loss potential is low.
-- This is a solid course for people learning the sport.
-- Maintenance appears to be good. Fairways are mowed, but areas off the fairway can get tall/thick.

Cons:

-- Open, with almost no trees in play. No. 7 is the only hole that is not completely wide open tee to basket. And on No. 7, you can see the basket from the tee, but you do have trees left, so most RHBH throwers will use a gentle hyzer shot.
-- Fairly flat. A few holes throw uphilll or downhill, but I don't think the elevation change ever exceeds 10-15 feet.
-- No water in play.
-- On a ball golf course, and ALL baskets are placed within a few feet of the ball golf putting green. This frequently misses a much-better location 20-30 feet off the green. Holes 5 and 7 are the biggest examples, but this applies to more than half of the holes.
-- Course is very compact, and fairways are close to each other, making it likely an errant shot will land in another fairway.
-- Distance variation is not good. Eight of nine holes are 226-318 feet.
-- Tee pads are not appropriate. They are rubber lattice work, too small for disc golf and not level with the surrounding ground; it appears they were designed for ball golf. They do not allow for any run up. My guess is that most disc golf either do a standstill throw or tee from beside the tee mat.

Other Thoughts:

-- Discs are available for rent in the Morden Leisure Centre across the street from the park.
-- UDisc lists this as pay to play, but there was NO indication of this at the course.
