Moderately Wooded Beginners Course

Reviewed: Played on:May 21, 2024 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-A flat moderately wooded course on a University campus. Eight of the nine holes have tree obstacles. For experienced players a putter course.

-Tee pads are turf. Tee signs have Hole number, par, distance, and map. Navigation is clockwise. The new baskets are Prodigy T1.

-Three of the nine holes are greater than 200 feet, the rest less than 200 feet. Great scoring opportunities.

-Out of the putter courses I've reviewed, I rank the course #1. It's also appropriate for students and staff whom most will be new to the game.

-It would be difficult to lose a disc on the course. Campus landscaping will keep the course immaculate.

-Beginners and Recreational will do well here. Intermediate and Advanced Ace Runs.

-Parking is across the street from holes 1 thru 3, and next to tee 4.

Cons:

-The course is meant to be private for students and staff. The small plaque can easily be missed informing you. However, on my visits security and staff don't seem to care, and others I know have played the course

-Holes 1 thru 3, and 4 thru 9 are about 600 feet apart. I know the campus well enough, don't think it could be avoided. I don't mind it, there are three other courses that have longer walks.

-The tee signs are too close to the tee pad. RHBH will need to be careful on their follow thru.

-I experienced a few walkers on holes 1 thru 3. 4 thru 5 are away from campus. The campus will be mostly empty on the weekends.

-Parking for holes 1 thru 3 is across the street from #1 basket, and #2 tee. I don't see how that could of been avoided as well. I played number two as a warm up Hole, and again for the round.

-After heavy rain it seems likely there could be standing water on some portions of the course.

Other Thoughts:

Another pleasant surprise for Virginia Beach, Regent and the Rosemont Forrest West course opened up within a month of each other, and just a few miles apart. My first visit was on a whim after field work with only a Servo, leaving the Crave in the car. I car hopped between both sides of the course. Since then, I've only played 4 thru 9 with a mid, and putter on my way to the dump. I've never had my bag with me.

On my first visit never saw the private course plaque until I reviewed the fourth tee photo, it's that small. I had a campus landscaper point me to the direction of the course, and waived to a security guard. I've never been asked to leave since then, same goes for those I know that have made multiple visits to the course. The warning on UDisc has also been removed, so if you want to bag it, I would say go for it. Nobody seems to care if you're there.

The course and campus are scenic, and it's a pleasant short walk. I think with the tee pad amenities, the course is very appropriate for a small campus as an introduction to Disc Golf. If new campus players decide to play other courses in the area they will be able to identify the course bag with there experience at Regent. And at a few courses, there tee pad experience at Regent will be recognized as better. I have no personal cons on the course.

I have no Signature or a Trouble Hole at Regent, as I would at just about all of my other course reviews, but that's okay. I also don't give any rating above 3.0 at a putter course. Based on campus experience for staff and students I anchor my rating on a 3.0, and that's where it will stay.
