Decent local course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 27, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+ 18 holes, occasional varied pars or teepads for And/Pros
+ Good mix of distances with a few sub-300ft holes so newer players can still get birdies here and there
+ Well manicured with some tasteful trails from pin to next tee, "lakes" of rocks arranged as boundaries
+ Playground around tees for 12 and 17 let my 3 year old play for a bit
+ Signage, Innova baskets, soft dirt teepads all pretty nice

Cons:

- No bathrooms
- Wastewater plant has half the course smelling like rotten eggs
- Rocky terrain looks pretty but will chew your discs up, like throwing onto asphalt or cinder blocks
- Very little shade

Other Thoughts:

Course is listed as private on DGCourseReview but the only sign I saw to that effect was between hole 4 and 5, had a vague "for resident use only" without specifying that it meant the disc golf course, and was posted on a wall of like a neighborhood trash compactor, lending further doubt to whether it meant the course. There was no fee or gate or security etc to indicate that the *course* was privately owned or operated. I'm not sure.

Very Well Done Course, Professionally Done and Laid Out, Enjoyable Round! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 3, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Good baskets.

- Good signage.

- Dirt tee pads, but didn't take away from enjoyment.

- Good mix of distances on this course with some opportunities to throw some bombs.

- A bit of OB to make it interesting, though this isn't a technically challenging course. Other than these couple of spots you can proactively be aware of if you so choose it's very difficult to lose discs.

- Gravel paths leading to the next tee pad is super nice touch, very easy to navigate.

- Great course for carts.

- Not much shade on this course and it's fairly long.

Cons:

- Is this supposed to be a private residents-only course? We never saw this sign that supposedly exists but it's a bummer if you're not supposed to actually be on the course.

- Not much elevation difference (a tiny bit I guess) and no truly unique holes, very well done course and laid out, but no wow or unique factor.

- Smelled a bit weird, apparently due to water reclamation nearby?

Other Thoughts:

Wasn't sure what to rate this course, there's a bizarre mix of perfect ratings and 1.5 star ratings, which I don't understand. It's somewhere between a 3 and 3.5 in my mind. Course itself isn't the greatest but it's been very professionally executed.

Not a super memorable course and I wouldn't go out of my way to play it if I was back in the Phoenix area, but overall an enjoyable round and I'd be happy to have it as my local course.

One update: forgot to give a shout out to the Verrado Coffee Company which we hit up on our way out of town, it's just on the other side of Highway 10 when you're coming up S Verrado Way. We've been to a lot of coffee shops across North America and we really enjoyed this place, wanted to give it a quick shout out!

Well laid out course. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 24, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course was well laid out. They had a shtupid sign that said the course is for use only by residents or their guests. I still marched on and had an enjoyable time playing here. Their were some challenging and fair par 3s to play.

Cons:

Smells like poop since it's next to a water reclamation facility.

Other Thoughts:

Make it publicly available.

Pros:

Good for beginners
Almost impossible to lose a disc

Well-kept
Nice park nearby

Cons:

Could be boring for really good players
I imagine it's a scorching hellscape with no reprieve of shade in the summer.

Sundance New Additions 2+ years drive by

Easy par 3 course
Just added new water ponds for difficulty.

Other Thoughts:

Weekly leagues just started here on Saturdays.
Tournament held on May 21st, 2016.
New concrete tee pads coming by end of summer.

Great open course on the west side of Phoenix! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 23, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Wide open course, well-kept. Nice crushed red gravel paths guiding you from hole to hole. Improvements are currently being made to made the course more aesthetically-appealing and challenging. Course is only 2 years old, so it's never very busy. Varying hole lengths. Some in the 200-feet range, one up to 750 feet.

Cons:

Water treatment plant in center of course, so odors wafting from plant are not very pleasing. Teepads are made from same crushed gravel as pathways, so footing can be difficult, especially after any recent rain. Course tends to get muddy whenever it rains. One side of course is bounded by a deep farming irrigation ravine, so if your disc goes in there, there is no way to retrieve it.

Snooty Sundance Residents Don't Want To Share Their Crummy Dirt Course With Us Lowlifes! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 20, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

"No Tresspassing" reads the sign near the beginning. The course is for Residents of the Sundance Residences and their guests only. There is also a very nice sign showing the course map and another sign explaining the course rules.

There are nice little colored tee signs which show par, distance, hole # and a route. The tee pads are a natural material which is a darker shade than the surrounding dirt. This darker material is also used as patching to lead you to the next tee or to a basket. The baskets are Innova models with the yellow bands. There is a number on each one.

There is a nice variety of lengths with some shorter ACE runs in the 215' range to # 11's 732'. There are some small trees which provide most of the obstacles here.

Cons:

Some of the pads are very soft.
I just don't find it very pleasing to play on a totally dirt course.
Dirt/rocky course is hard on discs.
Dirt/rocky course is not visually pleasant.
Very windy today.
Lots of similar type holes.
# 10 would be an easy hole to lose a disc on (by throwing over the wall into water reclamation facility).

Other Thoughts:

I don't see Sundance getting a lot of play. There was evidence on the soft tee pads that someone had actually thrown from them. Between the wind and the dirt, I can't honestly say that I really enjoyed my round here today all that much. I like green grass too much

I guess if I lived here I might play here occasionally, as it stands now, fortunately I won't be passing through the these parts again. Is it out of the question to consider artificial turf for the entire course?

Dirt Neighborhood Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 9, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Free course
- New baskets
- Map of course at hole 1
- Easy to follow course flow
- Numbers on every basket
- Detailed tee signs with distances
- A variety of distances throughout the course
- Slight differences in elevation for a few holes

Cons:

- Dirt course that gets really muddy after a rain
- Open fairways
- A ravine, housing property fences and the Buckeye water reclamation facility wall all raise the odds of losing discs

- Some fairway/tee pad overlap
- Natural tees
- No alternate pin placements or tee pads
- No bathroom on location
- Smells horrible

Other Thoughts:

This dirt course is sandwiched between the city water reclamation facility, a residential neighborhood and a farming ravine. If I were a betting man I say it's on a water drainage area by the looks of the flat bare landscape. What the course lacked in fairway shape or obstacles was made up for in distance variation. The holes I didn't birdie used distance as a difficulty factor. The signs and baskets looked great, it looks like a newly installed course.

Sundance Park was an enjoyable place to throw (minus the mud) , but it has too many opportunities to lose a disc for a beginner friendly type course. I liked the front 9 more than the back 9 because the holes there had more fairway definition, however 14 & 15 were my favorite holes of the course. Use the pin I dropped to find the course or you might be directed to the wrong place. Google maps got it confused with the other Sundance Park that has baseball fields and dog park the first time I tried to find the course.
