Any speculations on anyone leaving Trilogy?
I would not be surprised to see some of their players looking for alternative sponsorship, or even 'moving' within Trilogy brands.
'Trilogy' really seems like 3 separate business functions to me.
A. DD: Street Team (social media, appearances, etc.) * That's not to say that DD players can't be talented, but DD is kind of the marketing function for Trilogy. They need some talent on the team to provide credibility, but their main function is branding and growing the sport (I'm saying that seriously)
Disc sales are somewhat self-sustaining as this Tier introduces a lot of new players to the game. DD will become those (new) players' 'house' brand, and they'll likely continue to 'buy what they know'.
B. Westside: Seems like the farm team/AAA. Up and coming young players. Westside almost seems to have an 'underground' feel, like Gateway.
C. Latitude64°: PRO squad. These are the players that move inventory simply because they throw the mold. How many people do you think throw the Harp because of Ricky?
In my opinion, DD has gained a rep for the social media focus and 'signing' fringe players to 'pro' contracts. The people who are more vain could feel negative pressure from that stigma, especially the ones who are active on social media.
DD players that want to be taken seriously may ask to move to Lat or Westside if they can't find alternative sponsorship.
To be clear, I'm not saying there is anything with this. In my opinion 'Trilogy' is by far the most advanced (disc golf) manufacturer in terms of marketing and branding. They are growing the sport (whether you agree with the method or results is not the topic). More people are playing dosc golf because of them.
As a result of DD's focus on branding and growing the sport, I would not be surprised to see them become the biggest brand in the game over the next 5-10 years. In terms of competition, most manufacturers are trying to catch up with Innova in terms of units sold. They would be wiser to focus on catching up to DD's marketing strategy.
In terms of a CBA for disc golf, I would like to see some element of team competion added to the sport. At it's nature, it is an individual sport, but if there were some sort of point system among manufacturers that could make free agency even more interesting.
Honestly, it could almost be set up with a fantasy format. Each mfg picks what players to 'field' for each DGPT event. It would not be hard to develop a point system that would allow us to measure each manufactures' asset management, and crown a winner at the end of the season/year.
Anyway, back to speculation...
Seems like very few people have mentioned any of the FPO division...
There are a handful of new names in that conversation, so I would be surprised if we didn't see something on that side of the game.
Anyone else think the ladies are going to get a little more attention this off-season?
