My wife may be going to a Bachelorette Party in May and I will have a four day weekend (May 4 - 7).

I am thinking about hitting the Pittsburgh Area. Here are the courses I am interestedin playing. I am looking for feedback about course selections and if anyone is up for playing a round or two.

Poor House Farm
Whispering Falls
Deer Lakes Park
Knob Hill
Two Mile Run
Beatty Park
The Black Course
Timberdoodle
Orange Crush
Woodshed
Whippin Post

This past August, the girl & I went through Pittsburgh en route to Cedar Point.

Whispering Falls is about 2 hours south of the Burgh. It's a bit of a trip off the interstate but is very much worth the trip and not that far of a drive from the DC metro area.

Deer Lakes is the freakin' Bomb!! About 20+ minutes outside the city and I would go to Pittsburgh just to play this joint. It's in the top 10 rated on this site and probably one of the best on the east coast.

The Woodshed & the Whippin Post will both live up to their name. It will be somewhat out of the way to & from the Burgh. Spencer has created two very challenging courses like no others. Be ready for a frustrating day but both are bucket list type courses.

If you plan on staying in Pittsburgh, I would highly recommend the Parador Inn.

It's a beautiful Caribbean themed B&B that is walking distance from Heinz field and many other site. Ed and his staff are outstanding hosts. This will be our accommodations any time we're in the Pittsburgh area.

SAFE TRAVELS!

You have to put moraine on the list

Definitely have to do this. If you want to see what the Pittsburgh area has to offer, you have to play Deer Lakes and Moraine.

Woodshed and Whippin' Post are on private property and are really peaceful. Make sure you have proper directions, as it is in bumble. Accept the fact that there are hundreds of trees on some of the holes and that you are bound to hit a lot of them.

e.g. the casino. Visit, but don't spend all your time/money there.

Definitely hit Deer Lakes. Parts of it may be pretty wet in May, so pack accordingly.

If you do end up in the city, I really recommend Schenley Park. The fact that it's kind of old, kind of short, and kind of cramped make it pretty underrated. It's really a fun little technical course that is surprising for a city park.

Closer to 3hrs anytime I made the trip to Pittsburgh, but maybe you're driving a Lambo? ;)

We play at Whispering Falls on Sundays at 1:15P if you want to play with some locals. From the Falls you're looking at around a 1hr 45min drive to get to the DC area and hit the essential MD courses. You're also around an hour from Boulder Woods/Quaker's Challenge, Codorus, Stephen's City and Creekside. About 45mins from Coyote Hills, Poor House, Heritage Park, Middletown and Woodsboro. Paw Paw is about 1hr 25mins from here. We're not super close to anything, but there's quality golf to be found.

If you have any questions about the area let me know. brad(at)whisperingfalls(dot)net

LOL! This is why I have not played Whispering Falls yet even though it looks like a great play. Kind of out of the way from everywhere! Some day I will make it there since I hear nothing but good things about it.

As for the Pittsburgh area courses The essentials to hit are Deer Lakes and Moraine. Moraine might be lower rated on this sight but if you ask any local it is a toss up between the courses. Both are top notch. The second tier courses are Orange Crush/Seth Burton, Knob Hill and the Black course. After that there is pretty much only schenley and seven springs (not counting 9 holers).

Deer Lakes in is my top 10, Moraine isn't far behind and in between them is under rated Knob Hill which is at least a 4 star course. You have to hit these 3 three if in the Pittsburgh area. I drive across PA at least twice a year and always stop one of these or more, it's a great area for DG!

I will look into the Parador Inn. Thanks for the info. I am driving over to Pittsburgh from Annapolis, so Whispering Falls should be on the way. On the way back I hope to hit Woodshed and the Whippin Post.

Some other guys recommended Scheneley also. I think I will try and get it in.

Thanks!
