Bring your hiking Shoes 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 7, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Well laid out course with every type of hole, demanding use of every disc in your bag.

Cons:

The many up down, up downs and unlevel trails are brutalizing on the calves and ankles.

Other Thoughts:

Partial stairs on 13 & 14 could be helpful. Bring extra water!

High ranking for a reason 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 22, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Something about having greens fees elevates this place to the next level. Maybe it hold back the crowds, or just makes you feel special, but I was happy to throw down my $12. The little pro shop and hang-out space at the entrance (and the awesomely friendly staff) make this place great and justify the entrance fees. Professionally maintained tee boxes and signage, no detail overlooked. Really enjoyed playing this course, it is hilly and a little through the woods (similar to most mountain courses in Colorado), but the trees never get too dense so the play remains exciting rather than getting frustrating.

Cons:

I really enjoyed playing this course, and I think the amenities and well maintained tee setups and signage justify the cost. That being said, when I compare this to other free courses in the mountains and around Colorado, I think some of the free courses do offer just as good holes and just as fun playing experience.

Other Thoughts:

Be sure to save time for a few rounds on the "ace course" putting course once you've crushed your full-round (and a couple cold ones!). The playful small course is a great way to end the day.

You're seeing the fall of one of the greats 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 20, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is wonderful in nearly every way. Great design, great scenery, great maintenance, and well spaced so you don't notice the neighboring holes. This course takes several hours to play and includes a great deal of hiking and punishment for errant throws. Trash cans (seasonally) and benches at every tee box and wood-chip greens around many baskets.

Cons:

A great course and skilled advertising means that development is booming at Beaver Ranch. It's great that so many people are enjoying the area but the land managers seem to be struggling to properly manage that growth. There is a zipline popular with tourist and social groups that can often overcrowd the area and highlight the lack of permanent toilets or proper parking lots.
Crowded is the name of the game these days. Unfortunately, the area is not set up to handle the traffic properly so you can often find yourself frustrated with the park or with people around you. I think the Beaver ranch land managers are going to spend a lot of time thinking about these problems over the next couple years and I hope they can pursue long-term development and revenue planning rather than chasing the short-term payouts given by fad attractions (e.g. zipline, ropes course, alpine slide, etc.). This place is too wonderful, please don't let this become Heritage Square.

Other Thoughts:

This course has become a total circus. The group managing this area seem to have visions of grandure but a critical lack of planning skills or taste. They've made a shantytown of yard sale furniture to sell concessions and collect expensive fees. They start huge tags matches at 9 am that clog up the course for most of the day on Saturday and Sunday so there can be lines 3-5 groups deep on every tee box. I truly love this course but it's become a shinning example of irresponsible growth and lack of long-term planning.

Always a Gem Year After Year 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 2, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great elevation changes throughout the course. Tons of tight shots. They do a great job of changing the pin positions during the year, which makes for a different experience every time out.

Cons:

The parking lot is far from the course. Some of the tee boxes have divots. If there were some rakes out on the course players could help keep them more maintained.

Other Thoughts:

Great new benches and signs.

what a workout 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 13, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

where to start...played this course on the way back from Seattle to DFW....read lots of good reviews for this course and we were really looking forward to playing it...we played Phantom Falls about an hour before this one. Being from Texas, i was not used to the elevation changes and the weather. It was snowing and almost impossible to get through the first 3 holes. Once to hole 4 the holes begin to level out. However there were still major elevation changes. The views are absolutely amazing. Saw a few locals and they pointed us in the right direction for a few holes, but other that, the course is fairly easy to navigate. There was a rest area that had bathrooms and some picnic tables to rest...take advantage of that...all in all the course is amazing and if you are in the area its a must play. might as well play Phantom Falls after this one...both together are considered the "dirty 50"

Cons:

tee boxes we natural and had some fairly worn in divots, so be careful
if your not familar with the course try to print out a map or find a local to point you.
the walk to the first box is a joke. rumor is said that you can drive up to hole 12 and skip the walk
the first 3 holes are bascically uphill

Other Thoughts:

if there is snow on the ground, dont throw a white disc
make sure to wear hiking boots and not tennis shoes
overall being from Texas, i wasnt used to the whole mountain course and next time i will be better prepared
