Pros:

Burnett Woods DGC sits in a humble city park across the street from University of Cinncinati. The course runs along sloped hills dotted with trees and patches of dense rough. The course is largely short and sweet, with ace runs / easy birdies predominating, but a few holes stretch out to around 300 ft or more to add some variety. Holes are never too complicated but there are some windows to hit, trees to shape around, and landing zones to move through; Burnett offers an easy round for even a newer player but isn't a sleep walk or a waste of time owing to sitting on some decent terrain. With numerous other such small courses in the area, it's a functional addition to an afternoon of course bagging. As far as somewhat-neglected small park courses go, there's much worse out there.

It's a quick play, navigation issues aside.

Cons:

The course is simple and straightforward, which is to be expected. It's also pretty rough around the edges, both figuratively and literally: newer players could easily lose a disc on an errant throw, tempering the appeal of an otherwise beginner-friendly course. Navigation was quite unintuitive, for my group at least: we had to double back and search for the next tee on several occasions. This made an otherwise quick playthrough considerably less so.

The course plays close to other park services such as gazebos and grill pits, so there's some possibility of conflicting with pedestrians etc especially if it gets busy.

Other Thoughts:

Burnett Woods' layout was pretty fun to play considering the context, though the navigation issues put a small damper on things. Worth a stop to bag, worth visiting if you're in the area to keep your game fresh.

Fun short quick course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 12, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Challenging on uphill throws and nice short hike.

Cons:

Tees are not completed and posts are missing. The directions to next tees are confusing. I cannot find #2 tee.

Other Thoughts:

I give this course a 1.5 - passable because it was playable. A bit of a challenge for new players. I will come back here if I need a quick fix for disc-golfing!

UC Disc Golf (Burnet Woods) 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 3, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Hole 1 starts on Brookline, there is a board that looks like it should be a sign showing course layout, but it's got nothing written on it. There is a wooden post there that has the number 1 on it. Hole 2 tee is up by the group of trees. you will see the worn out grass that is used as a tee pad. Hole 3 is around the corner to the right. Hole 4 is around the bushes, (you will see a large wooden post and a smaller wooden post, use the smaller wooden post) Hole 5 & 6 are across the road. You will throw down towards Clifton Avenue and then throw up towards #6. Hole 7 will be straiht in front of you. Hole 8 is on other side of gazeebo, and hole 9 throws towards M.L.King Drive.

Cons:

Needs better signage! Also needs some care. Hopefully somebody from U.C. can step up with a group of college students to assist in caring for this 9 hole course.

Other Thoughts:

It is not a bad little course. Some elevation changes, some areas to throw, a couple of short holes. It just needs some caring people to assist in its upkeep.

NEEDS HELP!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 11, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Next to University of Cincinnati, beautiful park, well maintain course, encourages use of backhand and forehand. Simple course. Never busy

Cons:

Terribly maintained dirt teepads, extremely confusing course with no signs and using the map doesn't help that much. Many better courses close by.

Other Thoughts:

This is a good course for students from UC who want to practice their technique but there are a lot better courses a quick drive from this area.

Couple cool holes 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 11, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Hole 2 is a really tough birdie to get. The hole slopes down but then slopes back up and to the left. The basket sits on a slope. It is a tricky angle to judge and to get far left enough. 4 is a cool low ceiling shot. 6 is a good double route uphill hole. 7's basket placement is good, it is easy to blow by it.

Cons:

Poor signage and dirt tees. The rough is rough, keep it on the fairway folks. This is quite a short course, only really holes 2 and 6 call for drivers. Most of the holes are really boring as they are short and open like Holes 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, and 9.

Other Thoughts:

Watch for other park users. This course is not worth your time.

This course could use a makeover 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 23, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Quick. Some fun use of elevation changes. Forgiving for beginners, even with the woods that frame #2 and #3, and the trees that dot the fairway of #4, #5, #6, #7 and #9.

A couple best holes:

#2 is a sharp dogleg left that requires a finesse drive downhill. Too long and you're in the woods. Try to cut too much of the dogleg too soon and you're in the woods.

#5 is a short downhill with a decent gap for the drive between two large trees.

Cons:

This course seems generally worn down. The basket at #7 is bent significantly. There's a bulletin board near the first tee, but nothing was posted there when we played.

Nondescript brown posts mark the natural tees. There are often tree roots in the tee areas, and they can be hard to spot, with no signs to mark the walks from basket to tee.

For such a short, simple course, there's a fair amount of walking involved. The park pavilions and playground severely inhibit the best use of the available space. #5 and #6 are across the park road, significantly removed from the rest of the layout.

If the money and energy were available, the best option for this course might be to pull up the baskets and start over.

Other Thoughts:

We were the only people on the course except for a few sunbathers, on a weekday early afternoon: another sign the course may suffer from neglect.

Mt. Airy, a much more challenging, beautifully designed 18 hole layout, is only 3.5 miles away.

Course Needs Help!!! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 24, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Beautiful course with hills, old trees, grass fairways, and light woods for rough.

+ Close parking. We literally parked right next to hole 1's tee.

Cons:

- 4 missing baskets. A local said they are being stolen.

- Very few tee pads, very few tee signs, and even with a course map it was very hard to navigate.

Other Thoughts:

This place has the potential to be an incredible course. STOP STEALING THE BASKETS!

I really like this park. and hope that they can have a nice course here someday.

A course of Possibilites 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 27, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+Right next to University of Cincinnati's Campus
+Park Staff is pretty friendly
+Great Landscape

Cons:

-Two missing baskets
-Dirt tees
-little to no signage, very confusing to play
-Very worn out baskets

Other Thoughts:

This is a course with HUGE potential. Right next to a big University (that I attend) with a very large population of disc golfers. There is ample room in the park for at least 18 holes. If a proper designer was hired and materials could be acquired, with just a little bit of weekly maintenance (after construction) this could be a great Cincinnati course. Right now, though, it is basically a course for practicing approaches and putting. I have found that the best way to play it is make up your own holes with the existing baskets in order to test and improve your own skills.

Something else worth mentioning. This is pretty close to Downtown and over-the-rhine, which basically means you don't want to play this course at night, and it is probably best if you play with a friend rather than alone. As a student of UC, on campus security is practically perfect, but once you step off campus you have to be constantly alert. So if you do go to play this course, just be aware of suspicious looking people.
