OK 9 Holer 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 20, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Concrete Pads, decent size
-Baskets OK
-Signage OK
-Decent mix with a few shot shaping holes to work around a few trees / other obstacles
-Generous Pars

Cons:

-Flow a little odd, in 2 parts of park, jump from 3->4 and 7->8
-Walking path in play in #1 and #9
-Basketball court in play on #2
-Baseball fields in play on #5 and #7
-Shelter in play on #8

Other Thoughts:

City Park hosts an average small town park course in the eastern part of Mitchelville, IA. Weaving among other park activities, the course is split with 1-3 and 8-9 in the western section and 4-7 over around the ball fields across the street to the east. The western section has more trees to work around. #3 is a shot past a basketball court. #8 is a shot past a shelter. #9 is a shot past the bathroom building and towards another shelter. Over on the east side, #4 works around a small building, #5 is the long one with a basket at the south end past the batting cage. #6 is open. #7 bends around a very small ball field with s small ditch behind. Play here is OK and it would be a regular for me, if I lived here. Not bad for a 9 hole park course, but no big draw, either. No big notes to improve, they've done what they can with the space. I've got a friend who just moved here and I might play again, if in town to visit.

Not Great, Not Bad 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 7, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

*Good signage. The signs all pointed out where the next tee pad was located.
*Nice baskets. Brand new DGA Mach New IIs
*Course can be played in 25 min or less
*Good use of the limited amount of land available.

Cons:

*5 of the holes are on one block that is also a playground and picnic area and would be pretty much unplayable if anyone else was using the park
*Teepads for 4 and 7 are goofy. They both face straight ahead while the hole is a 45 degree dogleg left. Dogleg isn't really the correct term here since there are no trees in your way. There is a tennis court and ball diamond that comes in to play on those two holes for lefties but I seriously doubt anyone will throw straight ahead off of the tees. If you do throw the way the teepads have you lined up you will be about as far away as you were to start with. Most people will just go over the sports areas, which only requires a throw of around 200'.
*Not a lot of distance, only one hole over 300'
*Park hadn't been mowed recently and had pretty long grass. A lefty roller on hole 1 would have been an option but not with the long grass. I'm sure this varies throughout the summer, maybe I just hit it at the wrong time.

Other Thoughts:

This course is okay if you're in the area but not really worth a trip on its own. I live 25 minutes away and I doubt I'll drive over to play it very often.
I threw a disc on the roof of the large shelter area and there was no way to get it. I was told to check with city hall a few blocks away. They were friendly and took my info for when the parks dept gets a chance to get it down.
