Creekside Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 10, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

After my first play through of Johnson Creek I made my way to Creekside Park, hoping to find a course near my school in Greensboro that really excited me. I found that here. When I play a course for the first time I try to pick a few holes to list as my favorites. You know you have found a quality course when you realize you are listing pretty much every hole.

You are given an extreme amount of freedom when choosing your level of freedom here. There is a beginner loop of 6 holes that seem fairly straightforward. There are also 2-3 different tee options at hand for the rest of the course.

This course never felt too repetitive to me with an amazing variety of shots, angles, and elevation. Not to mention the decent mixture of technical and open shots. There's also a nice rotation of scenery as you make your way around the course and the vegetation changes. All of this coupled with the nice, big creek adding a fun water element to 7 holes makes the Course one you will remember.

The course starts off and ends in a fairly well trafficked area of the park, but when you reach the meat of the course you are given a reprieve from the rest of the park guests as you enter a nice secluded stretch along the side of the creek.

Cons:

There really aren't many things to go here. There could be more benches at the tees to give golfers a chance to take a break. (There are a few, but one or two more around the midway point would be a benefit to this course.) Trash cans in this stretch would also be a great boon as well. Although the place was quite clean.

There are a few elevated manhole covers on a couple fairways, which reeked. Obviously not much can be done about this, but it is worth noting. These and the few times you brush up against nearby neighborhoods manage to detract from the secluded feeling a bit.

I would also love to see more signage, at least in the parking lot, it took me a while to find the start of the course.

Other Thoughts:

I, for one, am extremely jealous of people who get to call this their Home Course. One of the best courses, if not the best, within a 20 mile radius.

Favorite Holes: 7, 10, 11, & 13

Fun Tight Lines 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 15, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is what a wooded course should be. Well established lines with cleared brush, tight technical lines from both Right to left and left to right. Tons of really fun elevation changes. The creek that ran through the course was really used nicely. I would say that this course really forces golfers to think through their shots. Sometimes lines that at first look great can be very punishing. This is especially true from the blues, where some of the holes turn into delicate point-to-point golf rather than simply crushing off of the tee. 14 was a great example, where a good drive could lead to easy birdie, but could also easily see the disc slide past the basket into the creek.

3 was my favorite throw, a really nice par three which plays sharply downhill to a basket guarded by a few trees and a sneaky creek just behind it.

Great signage on most holes and overall well laid, expansive concrete teepads which were in most cases beyond ample. Kiosk on the first hole gave some nice intro rules and clearly stated that roads and walkways were OB.

This is a very well kept course in a great parks area, especially considering the town size. Tons of the amenities at the park that I didn't get to explore, but it at least looked like picnic areas and restroom facilities. There was a lot of active maintenance going on so it seems that upkeep here is going to continue to be nice.

There is also a beginners loop of holes 1-2 and 4 other short holes. I didn't get the opportunity to play the beginners loop, but it looked like a good place to start youngsters to get them interested in the sport.

Cons:

It did seem like the motif of short uphill tucked right to left holes kept repeating itself on the back nine which was a bit frustrating for me.

The sewers that have caps on holes 9 (5 feet from basket) and 11 reeked of feces and really took away from the enjoyment of those two otherwise nice holes.

A few of the holes pass a bit uncomfortably close to the walking paths, but everyone was doing a good job of being heads-up.

A few of the tees, #3 on the white tees, tournament tee on 4, and both blue and tournament tees on 17 were on the walking path. I don't think that interference was necessary, but I can see how it was a cost and space saving measure.

There were a few holes from the blues that the lines were a bit extreme, and it seemed that par was increased on them to allow for a bit of poke-and-pray through the trees.

Hole 18 almost is shaped like an O. I wonder if something better could be done with that space.

Other Thoughts:

This course is very well made, and only a few drawbacks as above.

It would from a DGCR website perspective be nice to see the beginners loop and the regular course separated into 2 separate courses so you could get a round rating, but that is certainly not the course's fault.

Great variety, great course. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 29, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice layout using the varied terrain available and the namesake creek. Uphill, downhill, sidehill, a little bit of everything here.
Baskets were all in good shape. Multiple tees on every hole, concrete and most were very good sized. Even had a couple of Gold tees.
You will have to use quite a few shots to play well here. Left, right and straight holes. A few even had multiple paths to the basket, some off the tees and at least one (#11) from the fairway.
Great signage! Every hole, every tee. Had next tee signs also where they were needed.
In a large multi-use park, RRs available in Comm Ctr. The course is on the back side of the property, intersects occasionally with the walking path, but this is usually at the tees and is easily handled.
A great downhill hole #3, open bomber #4, dual fairway #6, creekside pick your path #10, dual fairway late in the hole #11, long bending uphill #18.

Cons:

Not a lot here. At first I thought #10 didn't really have a fairway, but the trees were open even to stay away from the creek.
#13 - uphill, really no fairway to hit, then to a narrow green.
Last four holes, if you are a leftie. All four played right to left, including #18. If you play left to right, better get your score in before these holes.

Other Thoughts:

Really enjoyed this course, the variety and use of terrain made for a lot of different shots. The creek was in play on several holes, but slow moving and pretty easy to retrieve from, so not much risk of losing plastic.
#1 and 2 can be played with a short 4 holes for a beginner 6 hole course. Great idea for starting them young. Hopefully that is used for summer campers.
A really good course for a town the size of Archdale, I would be fine playing this often. Also seems to be a good regional course for the Triad.

Nice course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 20, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Nice variety. Good mix of hyzer, anhyzer and straight. Nice use of elevation. Hole 3 feels like you're bombing down to a peninsula green (except it's wooded, so you have to place your shot). Many of the holes have alternate teepads (I played the longs) to give some variation. It's mostly wooded, there are a few more open holes.
- Long course. This course has 9 holes > 300' (10 if you count 1 at 297') from the long tees. This is not a pitch and putt course. I disagree with the posted pars. I feel like this is a 57 max (not the 66 as listed). If you were to play only the 400'+ as par 4's, I think this is a very challenging course.
- Good signage. Tee signs were great. If it wasn't readily apparent where the next tee was from the basket, there was a sign directing you.
- Convenient to interstate 85
- Nice, clean park. Great teepads. No benches, but not a big deal.

Cons:

These are all relatively minor
- slightly confusing layout (with the beginner loop). I was in a time crunch and ran into locals in the lot. They told me where the first tee was, and not to play the beginner's loop. The first two holes share with the beginner's loop. I needed to pull up the course map on my phone. Wouldn't be an issue on repeat plays.
- The con of having a non-cramped course is the transitions. Some of them were a little long.
- There is a lot of overlap with walking paths. Don't know how busy this course gets, but if it's busy, then it could be an issue.

Other Thoughts:

I really enjoyed playing this technical, "typical-NC", wooded course. This almost felt like a Charlotte course..... The creek that you play along side of was really enjoyable. It gave you something to think about as you shaped your thoughts, but wasn't really punishing (I'm sure there are spots that are inaccessible, I had two discs get wet, but was able to retrieve them easily with sticks). If you're short on time, you can cut out the back 10 (don't cross the bridge - jump from 4 to 15). My favorite hole was 14 - the blind ridge you throw over, and then putt with a risk of ending in the creek if you miss high or wide. I liked 3 (looking downhill) and 10 (interesting lines - can hyzer out over creek) as well. If the alternate pads presented a very different shot (as opposed to just a shorter shot), I could see this being a 4 - in my mind, it is close to a 4.

Challenging But Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 18, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Creekside Park is a heavily wooded course. It makes great use of the elevation present in the park. There are benchs and trash cans scattered along the course. There are great tee signs at each hole, and each tee pad giving distance and map of the hole. A problem in the past has been resolved with next tee signs when you can't see the next tee. The tee pads are concrete and great, with the exception of the few that use the walking path. This course makes you use a variety of shots, makes you think of shot placement, as well it puts some emphasis on mid-range and approach shots. It offers baskets on slopes to make you think about your putt. I love the 6 hole mini course, it is actually a good way to warm up before doing the 18 hole course. The park is beautiful and has many other activities.

Cons:

-Flooding can be an issue on parts of the course. Holes 10, 11 and 12 come to mind. Hole 14 could be an issue as well. The fairway doesn't flood but if the water is up on the creek directly behind the basket it would make errant putts impossible to retrieve.
-Some of the pars seem a little suspect.
-Several holes need to have some pruning done. Which could help bring the pars in line.
-A few holes need to have a couple of trees removed. The one in front of the tee pad on 10 and the fairway of 16 come to mind. 16 can be a bit like pinball with no defined path to the basket from the blue tee. 10 would be fine if the tee were just moved to the left.
-Some of the red tees belong with the beginner loop, but aren't that close to it.
-A few holes have the walking path in play, but it has never been an issue for me.

Other Thoughts:

I must admit the first several years I played this course I hated it. But some improvements have been made with the course. Next tee signs have been installed and some of the rough has been cleaned up. With that said there is still plenty of rough that still needs a little work. I feel several of the fairways could use a little pruning to open up some room for a flight path. That could bring par down on a few holes and give you a legitimate shot to go for a bird on a few par threes. As it stands I am fine with those holes, just place your shot, take your par...there are still many birdie chances on the course. This course is challenging, but fair, except 10 and 16 blue. And for someone like me that loves wooded course where you have to shape your shot, place some shots and focus on your mid-range and approach...it is fun. If a few of the issues I mentioned are fixed in the future I could easily up my rating to 4 disc. You can do a nine hole loop, 1, 2, 3, 4, 15,16, 17, 5b, 6b or substitute 18 for 5b. But you miss some of the best holes.
Favorite Hole: #11 from the blue tee. 474' par 5. You have a tunnel shot off the tee, with a canopy above. The fairway opens up and then around 300' you have two openings down hill to a basket on flat ground with a creek 25' behind the basket. If your drive and approach are good shots you usually have a long putt for an eagle attempt.

Pros:

- Multiple tees
- Great tee signs
- A beginner loop of 6 holes (I've never seen this anywhere else. Phenomal idea).
- Great baskets
- Easy to navigate
- Some very beautiful holes on a creek

Cons:

- A few bad holes that need some tweaking
- The course really never lets up - can be a bit frustrating
- The park has amazing land that isn't used

Other Thoughts:

Overall, this is a pretty good woods course and is a good challenge. If you like wooded courses, stay away! But if you like a good challenge and course that never lets up, this is a good course.

Courses this wooded almost always have bad holes, but there really were only 1 or 2 that I would consider unfair, which for the density of the woods, really says something.

Creekside 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 6, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great markings on each pad at each hole. A beautiful creek winds through property and is a water hazard on a few holes. Good combination of hyzers and anhyzers. Easy to navigate and go hole to hole. Hole 18 is not a dog leg. It is a very wide path to the basket that is long and virtually a semi circle. No way to shortcut unless you can do 40 foot high accurate shots.

In a beautiful park with lots of recreation facilities inside and out.

Cons:

It had not rained any significant amount in several days. Some of the holes were still a little muddy going hole to hole and a few fairways.

Let me say if you want natural outdoors you will on occasion find similar places.

Other Thoughts:

Saw none of the extra holes indicated on this site. Did not really look for them. If you go into the creek in summer I would guess a "Cotton Mouth" might enjoy your company. On one latter short hole you shoot and cannot see the basket as it is down a slope. If you throw 150' you will be in the creek.

Met a local you played round with me. Great guy and he really spoke well for the local club.

Well done 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 3, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice big concrete tee pads from both short and long positions. Great signs at pads showing pads, baskets and lengths. Some good signs for navigation where needed on the course also.

Course is in the back of a large community park. It does a decent job of keeping you away from other park users. 18 nice, new baskets in a mostly wooded, technical layout.

Some nicely designed holes. This course plays almost completely in or around the woods, and makes nice use of the terrain for the basket positions. Baskets are located on hill sides, near creeks, and tucked back into the trees on more open holes. Or placed in the open on heavily wooded holes. It's a pretty nice mix.

Course also uses elevation where possible. There are a couple decent downhill throws for your enjoyment.

Cons:

A walking/biking path comes into play on a few holes. It would have been a nice thing to avoid when designing the course. A couple pads play from the path or over it. Not my favorite feature in a course.

Other Thoughts:

I was pleasantly surprised by this course. I went in with low expectations, and discovered a cool little course right off I-85. I guess you never know.

Some highlights include #3 that plays from a hill, forces a tee shot between 2 trees and goes steeply down to the basket 260' away placed right in front of the creek. Pretty shot.

I also really enjoyed the twists and turns of #14 and #18. Both holes made in necessary to play smart and hit some spots off the tee. #14 also has a basket at the bottom of a small hill in front of the creek, making your approach shot a little interesting. Nice design.

#16 is down and up with a tight little gap to hit. I could see where that one could give people problems. But hit the gap and you've got a decent chance at a birdie.

While there really isn't any amazing holes, or epic bombs here, there really aren't any bad holes either. It just has a nice mix of technical holes that require you to throw a lot of different shots. There are some very tight holes that make you do a double take on the pad, and there are some more open holes that give you some room to err. Don't be lulled into thinking this is just a short little wooded course either. There are several holes over 400' including a 480'. Overall, this course has some decent length for a wooded course.

I'd highly recommend stopping for a round if you're making your way up or down I-85

Course improving every time I play it 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 27, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Very pretty course with nice mix of shots and distances.
Water in play behind several holes makes for a little more challenge
Several tight lines and elevation changes

Cons:

Some heavy growth on the sides of several fairways
Has a lot of walking in between some holes
In heavy rain some holes have severe drainage issues, although the last 2 times I played there was no problem at all

Other Thoughts:

Look to the right after number 2 because if you go to the tee/basket you can see, you will get stuck on the beginner loop and never find the rest of the course.

Overall this course is one of the best in the area and is rarely crowded, so you can take your time and enjoy it.

Seems to be improving as more people play it as saplings and brush are beaten down a bit.

Possibly the best course in the Triad... 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 2, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is probably one of the best if not the best course in the Triad area. It is definitely one of the courses along with Johnson Street that you need to check out if you are in the Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem area.

On several holes there are a long tee and a short tee. Most of the longer tees provide a different type of shot than the short tee. It is lefty/right friendly as there is an equal amount of holes that cater to both types of throws.

There are uphill, downhill, and flat shots. There are holes where your butt will pucker as your disc goes flying through small gaps and holes that you can stretch out your arm.

Water/Creek comes in to play on many of the holes. To increase the difficulty on several holes, the pin is placed 15-20 feet in front of an OB creek.

There were some issues with the teepads but the city has now come and fixed them. Before the fix, there were several teepads that were slanted or were placed on an uphill slope.

If you can keep the disc in the fairway, you can have a really great round on this course. On many holes, if you get kicked off of the fairway, you will be lucky if you can scramble for par.

The tee signs are a really great touch as well.

Cons:

I did not notice if this was on the tee sign, but there are some navigation issues from one hole to the next. For example, finding 10's tee can be difficult unless you have played the course before, have a map of the course with you, or have someone that can show you around.

The other issue is the drainage issue on a few holes. One hole, 11 I think, will have a large pool of water about 50 feet short of the basket. Due to the hole design, many discs will land in this area. I don't know what if anything can be done to fix this issue.

Other Thoughts:

If I had a choice between Johnson Street, Yadkinville, Reidsville, Horizons, and Barber park, I would probably chose this course to play 9 out of 10 times.

I played the longs except for 2 holes due to the teepads on those two whole being the 2 of the teepads the city needed to replace. The par from the longs is supposedly 64 but I feel the SSA would be closer to 60.

IMO, hole 18 is the most difficult hole on the course. The scores on this par 4 will range from 3s to 7s(if not higher) depending on if you keep the disc in the fairway or not.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 5, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is plays a lot different than it did when the baskets were installed one year ago. Many of the holes (1, 2, 3, 8, and others) have has the fairways widened and clean up in keys spots to make drives, approaches, and putts possible from more locations. Some holes of the par 3.5's are now birdie-able.

Cons:

As previous posters pointed out, tee-pads on several holes are uneven and rough. These will be replaced for the B Tier Tournament in April. Once this is resolved and some rough areas are cleaned out on holes 6 - 9, this course should receive an excellent rating.

Other Thoughts:

This course is still a work in progress and already plays much better and should continue to improve in the near future. In terms of learning to control and laying up your discs, this is a great course. There's a typo on the par info for the course. The Red Tees (short pads) should be par 59, not 71.

Improved 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 21, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice beginners loop for new players or players of any age.

While the park is big and offers a lot of other amenities, once on the course you feel like Disc Golf is the only game in town. Nice.

The "long" layout of this course offers a nice mix of wide open holes and tight wooded holes, some good elevation changes and lots of serious rough.

Course seems weighted to the right handed throwers but their are a couple natch lefty holes and a few with right and left lanes.

There is a premium put on accuracy and precision moreso than the big arm.

Cons:

As mentioned, a few tee pads are not intuitive (4 & 12 come to mind) but, as traffic increases (and it will), the paths will get better.

A few holes get mucky after serious rains but so do all courses. Take an extra disc and a towel or, if you don't like the muckymuck, avoid the course after bad weather.

The last few holes get a bit repetitious but they do offer ace runs.

Other Thoughts:

A lot early of reviews were pretty harsh on this course. During our first round I thought "What's up with that?" cause my buddies & I loved the course.

This course feels like it keeps getting better, it's an easy ride from anywhere in the triad and the tee pads and signage are getting installed as, I'm sure, $$$ and time allow.

Don't let some of the early reviews fool you, this course is a great addition to NC Disc Golf and to Triad golf in particular.

Tee off and fly freely.

Huge improvement over original layout 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 22, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

After 7 long, highly anticipated years, I'm back baby! My long-awaited return to Creekside finally happened in February 2017. Let's just say this course is sneaky good and over-the-top fun!
- The course was a major work-in-progress in 2010. Who am I kidding? It's was close to a disaster. Having a hole with a walking-path wide fairway with tall grass & rough on both side of the fairway? The course needed an overhaul. And that's what it got.
- There are some fun, creative hole layouts. #3 is a perfect risk/reward layout. A downhill, 260-foot (long tees) shoot-the-gap hole with an OB creek long and right of the basket. You want to be aggressive, but not too aggressive.
- #7 is a solid station-to-station layout. It's an uphill, 372-footer, that makes a sharp, dogleg right turn slightly past halfway. You're better off sacrificing distance if you make sure your tee shot lands in the fairway.
- #8 is a great signature, classic hole. A long, legit par 4 at 474 feet. It has a classic Bracketts Bluff (RIP) feel, looking and playing like that course's #12 & 13.
- The course rewards good shot making, creating true scoring separation. IMO, there are many holes here that feel like par 3.5s - you feel great about a 3 and a little disappointed with a 4. #4, 5, 7 & 18 all can yield a 3 with solid tee and approach shots, leaving you with a makeable putt for 3. Even on #11, I had a great tee shot, but smacked a tree with my 2nd shot, leaving me 2-putting for a 4. Had I missed the tree, I'd be looking at a real chance for a 3.
- Plenty of holes that can be reached with a mid-range or driver, even for us noodle-arms. Average hole length is 283 feet, with 13 holes under 300. That said, some of the tougher tee shots are from the shorter holes.
- Once you find the first hole, the course is a breeze to navigate thanks to plenty of good signage. Why that signage doesn't begin in the parking lot is its own issue, but only for first-timers.
- Awesome, big park overall. There are plenty of different amenities for all sorts of activities.

Cons:

The biggest negative is the safety concern. Too many holes play over and/or along the walking trails. #14 is a great hole in and of itself. However, it's a blind, slightly downhill tee shot/approach shot to the basket with the walking trail about 20 feet to the left of the basket. Throw in the fact the course weaves across trails, and I can see plenty of park goers using the fairways as additional trails.
- Course does have low areas that can get/stay muddy after rain. Even other holes could offer tricky footing (#7 & 12, for example) when wet.
- Course seems like it is missing one more longer, signature hole. As it is, the course really doesn't require you to throw driver. You're going to score as well, if not better, by throwing 250-foot tee shots that land in the fairway versus a 350-foot drive that ends up in the rough. The course tests every other part of your game, just not driving.
- A couple holes in the closing stretch seem too easy/unimaginative that it hurts the overall quality of the round. A filler hole in the beginning of the round is forgotten by the time you're on the back nine. When you play a couple filler holes in the final stretch, it's deflating.
- I don't recall seeing many, if any, benches and/or trashcans throughout the course. Unless you break this course into an awkward short loop (#1 -4 & 14 (or 15) - 18) you're committed to the entire round. Throw in the hills, and some long walks, and some people are going to need to take their breaks.
- Get better/ANY signage pointing players from the parking lot to the first tee. From the parking lot, you see the basket for #18 and short course #6. Based on these two baskets, do you know what way to walk for hole #1?

Other Thoughts:

I had a blast playing at Creekside Park. I knew my 2010 review was woefully outdated. I finally made a return trip, and immediately regretted not playing this layout sooner.
- Course is close to being really good. Replace one or two holes with something better, and this course quality gets kicked up a notch.
- This course reminded me a lot of the Kiwanis course in Staunton, VA from its look, feel and flow. There was also a little Kilborne-flavor, for my hometown comparison.
- The course did a great job of emphasizing the risk/reward element. On almost every hole, I can easily see a 2-stroke swing based on how well I'm throwing, or how lucky I am that day. On hole #1, for example, if your tee shot doesn't make the curve on the dogleg right, you could find yourself deep in the woods. I thought I threw a solid tee shot. It only ended up 10 feet off the fairway, but I still had to chuck it out around several trees for my up-and-down to salvage a 3. I also bogeyed one of the easiest holes - #15 - because I hit a tree and got a brutal kick deep into the woods.
- Fun course throughout. There's very little monotony to the layout with layouts changing up from hole-to-hole. Take this stretch of #3 - 7: straight downhill (#3); straight to slight dogleg right basket (#4); flat, dogleg left (#5); downhill semi-open (#6); longer dogleg right (#7).
- I'm giving this course a 3.5 rating. Just like all the other courses in the 3.0 - 3.5 range, there are some flaws to the course; but, overall, it's a solid round. I hope I'm back here in less than 7 years for my next round.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 7, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Updated 10/07/10: Concrete teepads for all holes. Tee signs for all holes give distance, fairway shape, and pin location. The Pro loop is quite challenging overall, mostly tight wooded fairway alleys ,punishing toothpick rough and some creek action on 7 holes. Reasonable length at about 5100'.

6 hole beginners course behind playground area exposes new players to the sport with relatively short and some tight fairways. This plays 1,2,3b,4b,5b,6b from the hole page - plays 1177' total .

Cons:

While the teesigns are in, no next hole sign are there yet. The progression from beginner 2 to Pro 3 was not marked, so you have to go right just before as you approach 2 pin, straight across a T intersection of an asphalt walking path, and downhill on that path about 200'or more. 3 tee is on the path, marked with sign playing downhill to the creek. 4 is back to the left on the same side of the creek and back up the path 50', then go right into the open fairway. 5 is across the bridge and then right. For 6 go away from creek turn right down wide path, then left on narrow path. 10 is down the hill along the pipeline and then turn left along the creek. 15 is back across the bridge and right. Most other holes are either visible, or have a very discernable path leading away from the pin.

Flooded/muddy and high creek areas (5,6,10,11,12,14) could be an issue during prologed wet periods, especially winter months.

The design could be different, and the fairways could be wider in places, but I am not splitting hairs on those points. Unlevel teepads have been mentioned as a negative, but I barely noticed them. Just glad to have some concrete. I heard that the more tilted ones are gonna get replaced in the future FWIW. Leaves are gonna be an issue in late Fall and Winter, so watch those discs well.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, my latest experience on this course was vastly improved, and fun. Perhaps the dryer conditions, concrete pads, tee signs, and general course flow knowledge made for a different mindset. I boosted my eval score from a 1.5 to a 3.5 , and I think this course can be a solid 4 with a course map, next tee signs, alt pin placements, and general tweaking. I recommend this course if you are traveling through the area. I may workup a course guide if time, so check the links section. Enjoy.

A Work In Progress. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 21, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The course is finished now and mostly all the work has been done. There are things that made need to be addressed still but, this course is playable and it is fun. It is fast becoming my new Johnson Street course now. The park is clean and signs are in place. Course offers a real good mix of open shots, a couple tight doglegs, tunnel shots, elevation changes, uphill shot and downhill shots. A couple of my favorites are number three, number four, number ten, number fourteen and number eighteen. I just played this past week and I can see where they are still clearing out some brush and getting things spruced up. .

Cons:

Some of the tee pads are sloped sideways and it would have been nice for them to level them off. You could twist an ankle if not cognizant of this. Hole 10 is a giant mud pit near the basket after rain. a narrow culvert has been trenched to help with rain run off but, this area is really lacking...be prepared for mud. Another thing to contend with is the underbrush. We saw a lot of poison ivy along the left side of hole nine on the fairway.

Other Thoughts:

I really like this course. We had the chance to play with the two guys that maintain the course and it was nice to see them out playing the course to see what all needs to be done to it. On hole fourteen, I would suggest moving the basket across the creek...it just seems like the obvious thing to do since you have to cross back over to play fifteen although, having the pin right next to the creek offers it's own challenges! I have upgraded my original rating from three to threedotfive. All in all I like this course..
