Amazing considering the resources available 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 4, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Wonderful use of hills, trees, and water
Variable angles required for tee offs
Lovely park with unusual Midwestern trees
Mostly short to mid holes

Cons:

Short to mid length cold be a con, too
Met a few unsavory sorts and homeless people there

Other Thoughts:

This is a course I always enjoy. I get a workout on my backhands, forehands, and more. Holes curve right to left and left to right, with trees often really dictating the tee shot, forcing practice on tricky shots. Yet this is not a dense forest or a dogleg course; it's just well-designed. You won't crank up on these short holes, though several that look short in measurement are longer when you hyper wa out around the trees.

Nice little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 7, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This park is all for and about disc golf. It can be crowded on weekends. Solid cement tees, with the hole number on the tee. It is a very easy to follow course. Course only has a few holes over 300ft which is unusual for a disc course. I find this a great thing. There are so many great hole placements that the course remains challanging. You also have more chances for a birdy which definatly makes the game much more fun! No distance signs yet. There is not alot of brush to get your disc lost in , nor are there any true water holes. Love the baskets too. The locals have taken alot of time to clean up this park and it looks great. You can have your dog on leash and the river is right off the trail. Nice old growth trees and lots of birds.

Cons:

Close to I-5. Muddy often in winter. Some holes are alittle close to the other holes, heads up. And baskets alittle close to one another, as well as a few of the tee placements. This is probably due to lack of space. The design of the course took full advantage of a small area. Its not too much of a con just a heads up, especially around 8 and 16. It is hard to put any cons on a course the locals worked so hard to obtain and clean up. It is a great mid-range course. I know it is going to improve my approachs greatly.

Other Thoughts:

The more I play this course the more I appreciate it. It has something for all levels of throwers. There are too many courses out there where distance and power rule.In my opinion most course have way too many holes over 400ft. If you are not a great distance or power thrower then your game can suck. Not here. This is a very unique course in that it utilizes a small space well and the designers have created a fantastic course for all levels of players, not just people with power drives. Dog Island course offers something for everyone. The locals are super friendly too. Thanks Nor.Cal disc club for this great new course.
