Be prepared for the water! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 6, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

First off, this course has legitimate water concerns on a number of the first eight holes. Speaking of the water, hole 8 is the only true "island" hole I have ever seen. My wife tossed her Dragon into the water and had to go in and get it (more on that). There just is not another "lake" course I have ever played, and this alone makes it quite challenging. It was also even more challenging with the crowds during a baseball game going on which was only a fun as we didn't nail a car (almost) or a person which always makes you have a sigh of relief. The holes are plenty fun, and have some of the highest risk/reward shots you will be faced with in the game (*ahem*....hole 2). How small of a window are you willing to accept to try and shortcut the lake???

Cons:

The water. And I understand the risk of a substantial body of water in play on a number of holes. Unfortunately, there was no wind when I was last there and that means even if you throw your floating disc out there, it's just going to sit there out in the water as it won't just wash up for you. You will now be faced with the choice of going for a swim. And going in the pond is NOT FUN as it is very mucky. Either bring a change of clothes or, at minimum, some sort of footwear to walk in the water. The navigation around the baseball diamond during a game was a bit harrowing....but we executed our shots well that night. However, if you were very unlucky, it could be a VERY embarrassing throw (and VERY dangerous). I had a bit of an issue finding some of the later holes.

Other Thoughts:

Perhaps there are other, but I just have not had an opportunity to play a course where water was such a factor. The first time I went here, I didn't even throw a few shots until I had a better plan to deal with the water. This was the reason I purchased a Dragon disc so I could play this course with more confidence. The best advice I can give anyone who has not been here is to have a plan for how you want to deal with the water!!!! Hopefully it's not an issue for you, but you'll breathe easier if you bring a towel and a swimsuit. This course is worthy of a stop if you are going to Eau Claire or Marshfield as a destination or just going up or down 29 to Green Bay as it's not terribly far off the highway. There is also another course in Abbotsford that is about ten minutes away to do a quick leg stretch that you will most likely go right past first before you get to this course.
