Pros:

Great Parking.....
The first course to open in the Vail Valley due to lack of snow.
Great Baskets

Cons:

Tee boxes need serious work. There aren't very many tees actually marked other than what I thought was the tee box.
Many holes were very VERY short. No technical skills needed on most holes. Either they were too short to use anything over a buzzz putter, or were just a straight shot with no hyzer or anhyzer required.
The wind was terrible, but there is nothing anyone can really "do" about that.

After basket #11 I had no idea where to go. The couse is not laid out very well. After 11 I walked down a path and saw no tee, no dirt area or anything of the sorts, then i eventually found a parking lot with 4 baskets scattered around the perimeter (spell check). I looked for what I thought was a place to throw but didn't know which basket to aim for. Basket 17 was the best hole on the course, easy, but still needed to place a shot on a slight hyer angle to a basket heavily guarded by trees. No tee on 18, but another straight shot with a buzzz.

Other Thoughts:

The course needs work. Has potential, but slim at this point.

Work in Progress 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Beautiful mountain scenery on property near the river.

Cons:

The baskets are numbered but there is no correspondence to the where they are on the course. Very difficult to figure out how the course plays. Gopher holes will hurt you if you aren't careful.

Other Thoughts:

Whoever was responsible for putting these baskets around the fairground obviously had an idea, but it is far from being realized. A little signage, some work on the tee pads and a map would make a world of difference. Right now just go throw radomly and have fun.

Needs lots of help!!! 2+ years drive by

Pros:

*** REVIEW BASED ON FRONT 7 ONLY, See CONS for explaination!! ***

Ummmmm....
Thinking, thinking, thinking.....

Holes 1-4 have very interesting basket placement utilizing hills, dips, drainage ditches, and plenty of trees.

The only tee signs and tee mats we encountered were nicely done.

There's lots of changes in hole distance on the front 9 keeping interest level high.

The prairie dogs are CUTE. Awwww...

Cons:

Based only on the first 8 holes I'd have to say this property is not the best place for a DG course at this time. The first 4 holes of the current course layout cross the parking lot, driveway, and multi-use trail at least once (and sometimes multiple times) on every hole. In addition, the weekend we were there, the rest of the course was covered with horses, riders, and huge truck/trailer combos making it completely unplayable. According to locals, this is a regular occurrence throughout the summer.

Much of the course is in low lying areas so spongy fairways, slippery, muddy tee pads, and holes completely underwater are not unusual.

The tee pads are a mix of dry, rocky dirt marked with orange spray painted corners (some at 90 degrees to the intended direction of travel), slippery clay marked with cones, and rubber mats with actual tee markers.

There seems to be no current map of the course and it appears the layout of the front 9 has changed a couple of times, so navigation is confusing and frustrating. In addition, many of the basket rings have been repainted a few times and several currently sport 2 and sometimes 3 different hole numbers on them, making navigation even more of an issue.

This property is inundated by prairie dogs so the entire course is covered with deep holes that make footing treacherous and sprained ankles a very real possibility.

Other Thoughts:

Based on the front 9 only, I'd have to say this course needs a redesign and some serious TLC to make this course worth playing.

Truly, given the quality of the other courses in the area, I'd have to say go elsewhere. Choose Frisco Peninsula Rec Area for the scenery and tons of fun; Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs for big distances and plenty of variety; and Beaver Ranch in Conifer for just plain awesomeness. I'm told Beaver Creek's course is really nice, too, but it wasn't open this early in the season.
